What To Expect

Meet your guide in central Moab and depart on tour half-day canyoneering adventure in the heart of the Colorado Plateau. A short hike across petrified sand dunes takes you to the first of two rappels. Your guide will equip you with a helmet and other safety gear and demonstrate rappel techniques; no experience is necessary and most ages and skill levels can be accommodated.

You'll make a 90-foot (27-meter) drop into a water-carved, sandstone chamber that leads through a small slot. It's another short walk to a second free-hanging rappel of 120 feet (37 meters), which affords an up-close view of the 243-foot-long (74-meter) Morning Glory Arch, which stands a short distance from your rappel station.

Then it's downhill to a spring-fed stream on the Colorado River. You'll learn a bit about the area's plants, geology, wildlife, and history before returning back to the starting point.

Lots of hiking; 2 rappels

Robert_L, May 2025
I would have preferred a lot more rappelling and a lot less hiking. Guide, Adam, was great, though and made the excursion fun and enjoyable.

Response from Host, May 2025

We’re so glad to hear you had fun and that Adam helped make your trip enjoyable—he’s definitely one of the best! Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We understand that everyone has different preferences when it comes to adventure style. Some guests love the hiking and scenery, while others are all about the rappels. We try hard to describe each tour clearly so expectations match the experience. If you’re ever back in the area, we’d love to help you find a trip that focuses more on the rappelling side of things—we have several options that might be just what you’re looking for!

Super Fun

Cage, our guide, was amazing, knowledgeable, and trained for everything, including EMT. Not that we needed that part of his training, but it’s comforting to know this is a requirement of this company. The experience was super fun and the hike back out was gorgeous. Highly recommend

Canyoneering for the first time

This was our group's first time canyoneering and Cage and Kensley made the experience so much fun! They talked us through each step and made it accessible. We felt safe the whole time. If you have ever considered canyoneering, I encourage you to try it. Red River adventures did not disappoint! Thank you for the wonderful and exhilarating experience.

Incredible tour! Do not miss this one!

An incredible experience! Adam and Emily were both professional, fun and all around superb guides! It was incredible to be so close to the magical morning glory arch and the hike was gorgeous! We went with our 11 year old son and he is completely hooked!

Best way to explore

Best way to explore in town. Adam was knowledgeable about everything from the technical parts to the equipment to all the history of the area. We had a blast and can't wait to come back and do more.

Brian, Hunter and Hanna were great guides for my family of first timers. We all appreciated their experience, encouragement and terrible jokes haha! The hike was an added bonus you! Thank you for a great experience, we will be doing this again for sure!

Great fun!

Great experience! It was much more interesting and technically challenging than we thought based on the description. There were kids on up to more mature adults on our trip but the lead guide, Adam was so helpful and patient with everyone so that everyone could maneuver the slot, climbs and repels. Very well managed and we had a ton of fun! Would recommend it!

Highlight of our vacation!!

Adam was an excellent guide. He even took us out on his birthday!! I didn't know what to really expect, but we had a great adventure. My kids had a wonderful time as well. It was fun and challenging and we would definitely do it again!

Much Appreciated

The staff were really wonderful. We had to cancel at the last minute due to an injury and they were helpful in squaring things.
