Itineraries for Your Trip to Jackson Hole
2 Days in Jackson Hole for First Timers
After a visit to Richmond while living in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US, it quickly became one of my favorite under-the-radar cities. With its deep historical roots, creative energy, and walkable neighborhoods, Virginia’s capital has a way of surprising you. You can tour the Virginia State Capitol in the morning, grab lunch in Carytown, and end your day with ghost stories in Shockoe Bottom—all without leaving the city core. Civil War landmarks stand beside bold street art, and indie shops share blocks with cocktail bars and Southern restaurants. If you have one day in Richmond, this itinerary highlights the best things to do in Richmond for first-time visitors—blending history, food, and culture in a way only Richmond can.
Expect a lot of snow in the winter, with warm summer days and cooler nights.
If you only have time for one thing, make it a river rafting excursion.
Kick off your visit to Jackson Hole with an early morning tour of nearby Grand Teton National Park. Not only will you catch the sun rising over the mountains, but you just might spot some wildlife waking up for the day. Best of all, you'll avoid most of the crowds by getting to the park early.
The afternoon is a perfect time to plan a river rafting trip, as you'll catch the warmest part of the day when a dip in the Snake River seems refreshing instead of traumatizing. There are rafting excursions for every age and experience level, from chill river floats to more daring white-water experiences.
After a busy day, the nighttime offers an opportunity to explore the town of Jackson with all its cowboy glory. Find a spot at the bar to enjoy a classic whiskey old fashioned, or kick up your heels on the dance floor after a meal of locally sourced beef. It's the perfect end to your day in Jackson Hole.
On day two in Jackson Hole, embrace those cowboy vibes and head out on the trail for a horseback ride. Many excursions take you through Bridger Teton National Forest, and some include lunch at the end of the trail. Be sure to stop and view the Tetons in the distance; they’ll provide a scenic backdrop for any group photo.
You got a glimpse of the Snake River yesterday, but today you're heading out to see what you might find swimming beneath the water on a fishing trip. Trout fishing is big in Jackson Hole, and booking a guided tour will take you to all the top fishing holes and rivers in the area.
When the darkness starts to descend, a variety of creatures come alive in Grand Teton National Park. Booking a photography tour is a great way to see the park after dark as you don't have to worry about driving on the dark roads on your return. If the timing is right, you might even get some pictures of the Milky Way.
