What are people saying about Big Sur

An unforgettable adventure
It was an AMAZING DRIVE full of beautiful scenery on BOTH sides of the road. Abundant wildlife and walks alongside the Pacific Coast were memories that won’t fade away soon. The narrator of the trip made reference to much of what we passed by and gave valuable insights, historical information and fun trivia that made the drive PERFECT! I would add that when you get close to Big Sur you begin an 80 +/- drive with no cell service (80 miles with 25-35 mph speed limits).

Enjoyable day. Pep was our tour guide and she kept everyone entertained throughout the trip to and from Monterey, Carmel, and Big Sur. The scenery was beautiful and we enjoyed a nice lunch, a sweet treat, and a stroll through Carmel before heading on to the Big Sur area.

  • With few connecting roads, Highway 1 is prone to lengthy traffic backups, especially during the summer high season. Slow down and enjoy the views.

  • Perched on the coast, the road is vulnerable to rockslides, mudslides, and construction closures. Always check road conditions before departing for Big Sur.

  • There is no mobile phone service along much of the highway, due to its remoteness.

  • Those who suffer from car sickness may want to consider taking precautionary measures before a trip to Big Sur.
