Less people, lots of history, great views
In many ways I enjoyed this monument more than other sites because there was much fewer people and it spanned more than 2000 years of history.

We booked this as we...
We booked this as we needed to kill some time before our scheduled tour of the Vatican. Turned out to be a really cool self guided tour of a building that was many things to many different people dating back to early Rome. Has beautiful roof top views in every direction... there is a nice Cafe on top (shaded) that serves a little bit of everything... but overall a very cool building steeped in history, a good way to spend 2.5 hours taking it all in. Wasn't overly crowded either.

Exploring a castle on your own!
One of the very few that are self-guided (for a change of pace. Tapestries, history and the view are awesome.

This experience was fine. You are essentially paying double to bypass the ticketing line. If you would like to save the money just buy the tickets directly.

While an amazing walk through history, be prepared for alot of steps. The tour itself was an amazing time. We were able to take our time and see everything.

Great tour
The guide was easy to find with his sign and the tour started on time. Alex, our guide, was knowledgeable and interactive with the guests. The castle was worth seeing and I learned more on this guided tour than I would have on my own.

Enjoyable and informative tour!
This was a really enjoyable, extremely informative tour through a structure that holds an incredible amount of history. Our guide Alec was very knowledgeable as well as very entertaining! This was a great way to take in a lot of information in a relatively short amount of time!

Very informative. We learned so much, even about the general history of Rome and how it was built over the centuries

This is a must see!!
This is a frequently overlooked gem!! The 360 views from the top are the best bar none. The history is fascinating too.

Tour
Worthwhile and thorough- I knew little about it before the tour and was surprised it also served as a prison

Interesting Tour
This was an interesting bookend to our trip to the Vatican and St. Peters. We downloaded our audio guide and listened at the appropriate stops. There are some interesting exhibits, which threw us off a bit on the audio tour stops, but we weren't in a hurry and they added to the ambience.

The five floors inside Castel Sant'Angelo are a maze of rooms and corridors, so wear comfortable shoes.
The large terrace, where Puccini's heroine jumped to her death in his opera Tosca, has spectacular views over the Eternal City.
Kids enjoy the large collection of historic weapons and armor displayed in the museum.
The sumptuous Pope Paul III Papal Apartments are decorated with perfectly preserved Renaissance frescoes, a highlight for art aficionados.
There is an elevator to the fifth floor, but most of the museum is not accessible to wheelchairs.
