What are people saying about London

Perfect transportation from Heathrow to our hotel.
We weren’t sure what to expect or how long it would take to get off the plane, customs, collect our bags etc.. great communication from our driver who was waiting when we landed (early). We got our bags, called him and he met us inside, helped with our bags and off to the hotel we went. Great driver, great service!!! Highly recommend!!

After having an unnerving...
After having an unnerving taxi incident in London, I decided to book with a service for safety and ease. I’ve used this same one twice now and had lovely, reliable experiences. My driver was clear with communication and a fun presence to be greeted with!

A "must do" for fans of "Downton Abbey"!
The tour is a "must do" for fans of "Downton Abbey"! Participants have the option in Oxford of taking the guided walking tour or going it alone (I highly recommend the Ashmolean Museum immediately adjacent to the drop-off point in Oxford!). The visit to Bampton serves as an appropriate "teaser" for the main attraction: Highclere Castle. The docents onsite there are outstanding! Very knowledgeable and more than willing to entertain questions from visitors, even some often absurd questions from the more rabid strain of Downton fans. My only real criticism lies with the specific guide we had on the bus during my tour. Though otherwise lovely and well-intentioned, she made a significant number of factual errors in her accounts of English history. As a retired professor of British history, I did politely and privately challenge her on several points, but she stood resolutely by her guns. The errors did not detract from the overall experience for the others, but I do get twitchy when tour guides do not have the facts correct. Example: She insisted that Lord Grantham was, in the context of the fictional program, *elected* to the House of Commons as an MP rather than having served in Lords because "he was not a duke and therefore not eligible to sit in Lords." She also insisted that the current monarch continues to be styled Duke of Normandy, which is not true, strictly speaking. The monarch is *informally* hailed in the Channel Isles (*only*) as "Duke of Normandy," but it done as a traditional courtesy, not as a formal style and title. English monarchs ceased to claim the Norman duchy at the end of the reign of King John in 1216. And there were other examples. But perhaps I am being too picky?

Fun day exploring the world of Downton Abbey
Rory was a great guide and it was easy to find the meetup spot and him. We headed out to Brampton and Rory provided lots of interesting info on the way out. Once there he led us around and showed where many of the exterior shots were done...as we were standing on the exact location. Then it was on to Highclere Castle, which was excellent. We had plenty of time for self-exploration with a handout, and there are guides in each of the rooms as well. It was amazing to be standing there where so many memorable scenes from the show were filmed. It was a great day. Quick note on the driving- the road portions from London to Brampton, Brampton to Highclere, and Highclere back to London were all about 1-1.5 hours each, so you may want to bring something to read or listen do during the bus rides.
