This was a very nice experience. We were transported to Bratislava by bus and had an informative tour around the town with a local guide.. I was impressed by Bratislava’s cleanliness and beautiful architecture. It is really maintained well and the people are very friendly. We had the option to go back to Vienna on the boat ride back at 2:40 for an extra ten euros each. It was a hot day so we took it. We had a seat in the back of the boat outside, which at first seemed bad but we got great outdoor views of the Danube (when the trip started) and old castle ruins so it was very nice after all. I highly recommend this tour.

A great day trip from Vienna!

Mark_S, Jul 2026
This was a perfect day trip to enjoy Bratislava. This tour allowed me to experience a new city and new country from Vienna versus actually staying there. It was perfect!

Great way to see and hear a little about Slovakia

sharon_k, Jun 2026
A pleasant and efficient way to take in Bratislava. We left promptly from Opera house in a small bus and made it without issue. I enjoyed the Austrian countryside with the wind turbine field and just at border noted the collection of drab Communist era buildings. There was no guide or commentary on the bus. A Slovak native guide met us and guided us around through the old city. She gave a lot of history. She showed us how to upgrade the tour with a tram ride to the castle and also how to leave on an earlier boat back to Vienna. After her time was over, we had lunch, went in a few stores, enjoyed pastry and coffee at an historic Konditorei and decided to take the early boat back. If you want to delve deeper there are museums and galleries and plenty of time to see them in the extra 3 hours. The trip back was pleasant, air conditioned and calm. Refreshments available for purchase. Dropped us off close to subway station. Vienna public transportation is wonderful! Only issue- our group of maybe 12 were all English speaking except for 2 who spoke German. So she had to say everything twice, which took time. I also think her German was more fluent. Her accent, quieter voice and ambient noise made it a little difficult to hear. I believe her explanations may have been a little more full in German. But all in all a good day and a chance to get a glimpse into the country.

Bratislava is a quaint town. Our guide did a wonderful job explaining the history of the country. We loved the gelato.

Bratislava from Vienna

Gerard_m, May 2026
The tour itself was good. The guide gave all the relevant information that we needed for the return boat trip to Vienna. One major issue of concern was the minibus trip to Bratislava. There were approximately 25 passengers aboard and it was 25 C outside. No windows open despite there being a roof skylight which was also closed. The trip was about 1 hr 30 mins and when a passenger shouted at the driver to turn on the air conditioning ,he then realised the driver could not hear ANYONE because he was wearing earbuds. Poor show. Otherwise very enjoyable

Bratislava Day Trip

Rafael_D, May 2026
Taking a day trip from Vienna to Bratislava is definitely worth doing. The old city center is great and full of good historical restaurants. The castle has a great museum with artifacts dating back to the Romans and earlier. City Hall also has a very good city history museum. Our local city guide was knowledgeable and pleasant. The only issue we had was that the return catamaran trip was cancelled, but a bus was provided instead.

Misleading tour information

Damien_G, May 2026
The tour information does not state that that only one way of the trip is by boat .. the trip from Vienna to Bratislava was by coach . The information was misleading on email received.

Response from Host, May 2026

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the tour description caused confusion regarding the transportation arrangements between Vienna and Bratislava. We would like to clarify that the itinerary and transportation details are clearly stated on our website and in the tour description. It is specified that the journey includes one leg by boat and the other by coach. The same information is also reflected in the booking details provided prior to the tour. (linkt to our website and description: https://www.viennasightseeing.at/en/all-products/bratislava-day-trip-from-vienna-by-bus-and-boat) Nevertheless, we understand that this may not have been sufficiently clear at first glance, and we appreciate your comments as they help us identify where communication can be improved further. Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience.

Do not recommend

Lissette_C, Oct 2025
The tour guide was difficult to understand and did not share much information about Bratislava. I do not recommend this tour. The tour of the city was finished by 11:30am and there was not much more to see after that, so we paid 10 Euros per person to change our catamaran tickets to the 2:30 pm return to Vienna instead of the 6:30 pm included with the tour. Bratislava was nice, but again, very small for a whole day tour.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Dear Guest, thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that the tour did not quite meet your expectations and that you had difficulty understanding the guide. We will discuss this with our local partner to improve the experience for future guests. We are also sorry that you did not find any other activities to enjoy during your free time in Bratislava. The city offers a variety of charming cafés, local restaurants, museums, and picturesque spots along the Danube that many visitors enjoy exploring. We hope you will give Bratislava another chance in the future—the city has much to offer beyond the initial city tour. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions or suggestions. Best regards, your Vienna Sightseeing Team

Slovak wonder

JohnBosco_C, Oct 2025
Beautiful mountain city , guide Mr Evan was knowledgeable and funny and walking tour was enjoyable. Took a palace tour in the sight seeing coach from the opera and it was helpful in visiting the castle. The return journey by the twin city liner was amazing though we preponed it to 2.30pm for getting a little extra time in Vienna.

Thank you very much for your lovely feedback – we are delighted to hear it! Kind regards, Your Vienna Sightseeing Team

The history of Slovakia...

Ray_S, Oct 2025
The history of Slovakia told in about one and a half hours by tour guide Ivan who made it fun and educational at the same time. More interesting information from the audio in the Oldtimer ride to the castle. Once we were there however, we were given only 20 minutes for exploration, which was totally inadequate given the size of the grounds and the castle itself -- a couple of snapshots, a trip to the WC, then it was time to go back to the vehicle. The free time to explore the old town, we felt, was too long before the 6 pm return trip to Vienna by catamaran. After lunch, we walked the old town, shopped for souvenirs, and went to see the Blue Church, and had coffee in a nice coffee shop, there was nothing left for us to do but wait for the boat for 2 hours. After we finally got our tickets, we were not told by the ticketing person that the seats were numbered and that our group of 4 were seated separately from each other. What a bummer in an otherwise okay trip.

Nice trip

Mike_A, Oct 2025
Very nice day trip to a nation’s capital. Wonderful old town. Guide was “ok” … could have been a bit more informational. Note that the bus trip is just transport; no “tour” until arrival. Also it was late in year (mid-Oct) for the Catamaran since it was dark and couldn’t see much along the Danube.

Just OK...

Lance_H, Oct 2025
The boat ride back is what saved this tour. The initial walking part was very bland & mundane. We started the tour at 9:45am & were done by 11:00am. We were then left to ourselves for 7 hrs as the boat reservation wasn't until 6pm. Luckily I was able to take an earlier time back to Vienna.

aklimava, Sep 2025
It serves the purpose of getting to Bratislava but walking guided tour is only 1.5 hours out of entire day. Really can do it by yourself on boat to Bratislava, then pick up a guided tour there then boat back. Too many people per one tour guide though she was really really good but 25 or so people in a group some with disabilities. I would book the boat both ways then do a drive around hop on/ hop off trolley and do a walking tour on the ground/ plenty of vendors. That way you can do it at your own pace.

Great day

ROBERTO_G, Sep 2025
Probably a 2 pm return is better. The guide was outstanding. Very knowledgeable. Very open to answering all our questions

Cost of excursion versus content

Luana_P, Sep 2025
The Bratislava excursion was too long, the excursion started at 8:30 - 8:00pm approx. Most of the excursion was spent travelling : to Bratislava and back to Vienna( 3hours) . The tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of history ( at times too much). Most of the day we were left on our on. too expensive for what we got out of the excursion. The excursion could have been shorted. We finished visiting and waited 3 hours for the catamaran and it took 1 and 1/2hours on the catamaran. I personally would not this excursion again or recommend.

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Dear Luana, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We’re sorry to hear that the Bratislava excursion did not meet your expectations and that the travel time felt too long. We understand how disappointing it can be to feel that most of the day was spent in transit, and we appreciate your honest comments regarding the pacing of the tour. We’re glad to hear you found the tour guide knowledgeable, and we will take your feedback into account as we review how to better structure the excursion and manage waiting times. Our goal is always to provide an enjoyable and well-balanced experience, and your input helps us improve. We apologize for any frustration this caused and thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. Kind regards, Your Vienna Sightseeing Team

The boat ride back has assigned seats but we were not told or given a choice when issueing tickets only to find out that we got the worst seats.

So-so experience

Mary_O, Sep 2025
Transportation to and from was great, however, the walking tour guide was mediocre and it was just way too much to time to spend there. It could easily have been cut by 2-hours and still provided plenty of time to see everything.

Know all the relevant details before you book a trip to Bratislava.

Whitley_B, Aug 2025
There two groups: one English speaking, one German speaking, which took too much time for explanations. Also, it was a Slovakian national holiday and stores were closed. Had we known this in advance, we would have book on another day. Given this, we decided to return to Vienna early, and had to pay an extra 10 euros each as a change fee, although the boat was virtually empty. The guide also glossed over a lot of local points of interest without going into sufficient detail.

Valerie_L, Aug 2025
I was surprised and a bit dismayed that the individual who met with us and put us on a bus, left us without explaining anything. I was sitting in the front of the bus when he told the bus driver he was not coming on the bus. The bus driver was also surprised or seemed so. It would only have taken the person a moment to tell us that another tour guide would meet us and tell us how long the bus ride was. The bus ride was an hour long and at least two people asked where the guide was. Once we arrived in Bratislava, a nice guide met us at the bus. She provided a great 2-hr walking tour. We then were on our own to wander about the city. The guide provided us some options of what to do and where to go. I had a lovely time sightseeing in the city and the boat ride home was very relaxing. Keep your camera ready for site along the way back to Vienna.

Very nice excursion

MARIANNA_P, Aug 2025
It was a very nice excursion. We have enjoyed our day. We thought the excursion included also the castle but it did not. We went on our own. The view from the castle is beautiful.

Day trip to Bratislava

This trip involved a lot of walking so make sure your shoes are made for walking. There is so much to see so one day might not be sufficient. The guide was very knowledgeable and gave an amazing tour!

The tour left without us as she wouldn’t wait for me to return with our passports! Very disappointed!

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Dear Thomas, Thank you for your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and understand how disappointing this must have been. It’s possible there was a misunderstanding regarding the meeting or departure time, and we regret that this led to you missing the tour. Please reach out to our customer service team so we can look into the situation and see how we can assist you further. Kind regards, your Vienna Sightseeing Team

Charming city, nice people

Bill_W, Mar 2025
Bratislava is a charming city worth getting acquainted with. It has an interesting history and the people are friendly.

Great trip but only cruise one way

Margaret_L, Dec 2024
It was not advertised as only going on the Danube one way. It would also have been better to cruise in daylight rather than in the dark. Bratislava is a traditional looking town and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The guide was very knowledgeable.
