Meet your guide at your central Vienna hotel in the early morning and set out on the scenic journey to Salzkammergut. Keep your camera to hand as you wind through the heart of the Austrian Alps and marvel at the panoramic mountain views.
Stop at Admont Abbey, one of Austria’s oldest abbeys, where you can admire the grand Baroque architecture and take a peek at the library – the largest monastic library in the world.
Pass through the UNESCO-listed landscapes of Salzkammergut en route to Hallstatt village, and hear about the region’s historic significance and rich mining heritage from your guide. Then, set out on a walking tour and follow your guide along the pretty lakefront, past the medieval half-timbered buildings, and through the lively Market Square.
Snap photos of the Ort Castle, which appears to be floating in the center of the lake.
After a full day exploring the lake district, jump back on the bus for the return journey to Vienna and end your tour in the city center.

Hallstatt is a beautiful little village which looks like it's come straight out of a fairy tale. We had an amazing guide Daria who kept us informed with all the knowledge she had about Austria. Would definitely recommend this trip !

This tour was a dream come true. I’ve wanted to see Admont Abbey Library for at least the last decade of my life. This tour gave me that and more. And the low numbers made travelling easier as there were less people to wait for!

very good organized trip, Hallstatt is a wonderful place by the lake in the mountains and Gmunden stop was a very good idea
the description of the trip is false, abbey was not on the shedule and the Skywalk was planned instead, but I was satisfied wit this change, thanks Dasha and Genadyj very good stay

Most memorable part was the voice of our guide - so sexy)) i have never be told about history with such sexy voice ))
Sofia is the funniest guide that i ever had

Sophia/Sofia was a fantastic tour guide. She was very knowledgable and had a great sense of humor. Props to her for herding around a full bus of us.

Long journey but really worth it. Our tour guide Dasha was amazing. She made our trip enjoyable with a lot of information and history with also Austrian folk music. The Abbey and Haalstaat are really a gem. Also we saw some snow aswell. Highly recomended. Well done.

I chose this tour because it included the Admont Abbey as well as Hallstatt. Great tour from start to finish! Our tour guide was fun and shared a lot of interesting historical knowledge. She was kind enough to take pictures for people and advised on how to get the most out of each stop. I would highly recommend this tour!

Great tour. The area is absolutely beautiful and I highly recommend it. My only reason for not giving it 5 starts is due to the breaks and time spent in Hallstatt. The 30 minutes at each break on the highway was too long. Those should be 15 minutes each. And because it is winter, 3 hours in Hallstatt was too long. We only needed two hours tops as many places were closed and there isn't enough to do for 3 hours. But loved the area. It's breathtaking.

Hallstatt is a must in Vienna, it’s so beautiful and I’m glad we got to spend 3 hours there. If the tour offers less then 3 hours it’s too little time. We had other stops also very pretty and interesting. Food places were ok but not cheap. The tour guide kept us entertained with information about Vienna history and music. Overall great experience, would highly recommend

The visit is nice. In the end, we didn't stop at Ort Castle but yes during 15 minutes at Traunkirchen Pier. As a bad comment: Hallstat is after the abbey, so in the month of October there is NO sun when you get Hallstatt. I think it would be worth getting up earlier but seeing it with the sun's rays, before 2:00 p.m. because, at that time, the sun stays behind the mountains and does not illuminate the forest, the lake or the city.

This trip to the medieval village of Hallstadt was simply amazing. The view from the top of the funicular railway was breathtaking. The other town we visited also charming but not near as good as this

Our tour guide was great. I can't remember her name but she was a Ukrainian young lady who was very friendly and knowledgeable. The tour was excellent. Hallstatt was the highlight for me. I would highly recommend this trip
Peter_O, Oct 2022
Hallstatt was unbelievably beautiful!!!
Can’t believe people are fortunate enough to live there.
The young lady on the bus (tour guide) talked way TOO MUCH..
Don’t know if it was the microphone or what, but you totally could not understand her!

Ok, so let’s get one thing straight! ignore the people who say it’s very long on the coach - of course it’s going to be you’re travelling to the alps! the trip is broken up where you can see sights on the way, you have a maximum of 3.5 hours in Hallstatt by itself so make sure you visit the salt mines!! ignore buying food there as the queue is very long for anything! You’ll have the opportunity prior to eat something on a break on the way there
Tip:
-take some cash with you as you may need it for Hallstatt
- take waterproof shoes or extra socks if it’s going to rain otherwise you will have soggy feet as I wore trainers
- take some snacks on the coach and battery pack for your phone
- check the weather before hand, it does get cold so wrap up appropriately
Kudos to Dasha and the team for organising - loved the information they provided and very open to questions. Make sure you’re listening too as there could be quizzes!!
Coach is comfortable and toilet breaks occur every 1/1.5 hour on the way there and 2 hours on the way back.
Don’t think twice about booking this trip!! Well worth it!

You must go on this excursion! It was a long day but well worth it. The drive through the country and Alps was incredible. Dasha was our guide and really made the trip. She has an excellent story telling ability and has tons of information to share as well as fun facts. Hallstatt is an incredible little village on the water, very secluded and charming. There is a train to the city too but you miss out on the views of the drive. Highly recommend.
Chenda_S, Sep 2022
Great guide, Dascha, very informative and helpful and kind. Good driver.
But trip is waaay too long, TOTALLY TOURISTA LIKE RED ANTS, so tiresome waste of time weari
Laura_D, Jul 2022
Comfortable coach, 48 passenger bus. The Abbey was phenomenal. Hallstatt was beyond gorgeous. Just wish we had more time to explore at both locations. Tour guide was informative.
Elena_N, Jun 2022
There is so much amazing things to see In Hallstatt is an amazing place. We would have given it a 5 star if our guide was little bit more informative and have a little bit energy to answer our questions without giving us attitude.
Joy_A, Jun 2022
hallstatt was a bit crowded during my visit but went to places with a lesser crowd and it was more enjoyable. hotel pick up was a great option.
Hayden_R, Jun 2022
Hallstatt is one of the prettiest places in the world, so the tour company didn’t have to do much more than get us there and back. Enjoyed ferry trip on the lake and walking around the pretty town. Our Ukrainian guide, however, added several long and unnecessary stops (on commission?) and as a result it was a VERY long day (had to be at the bus before 8am and got back after 9:30pm).
Javier, Sep 2020
The guides is very kind and knowledgeable, it adapts to the group and answers any question you may have.
Joshua_Z, Feb 2020
Pros: Hallstatt is so beautiful. Views are amazing. When you go, take the skywalk, you get an even more great view of the mountains and the water.
Cons: Tour guide talks too much on the bus. You spend as much time on the bus getting to Hallstatt as you do in Hallstatt. Your actual free time is 3-4 hours. And there is far too much to see and it kills the joy when you have to kinda rush.
Melissa_M, Jan 2020
My only complaints were:
1. The bus did not have charging ports for phones
2. The tour guide did not stop talking. Whilst she was very knowledgeable- 3 straight hours of her talking was unbearable.
Michael C, Dec 2019
We enjoyed seeing Admont and Hallstatt but couldn’t help but feel a little rushed.
We really needed at least another hour at Hallstatt to fully enjoy the town and unfortunately wasted an hour coming down from the sky walk! The queue was very long and it was terribly cold.
Mark_M, Dec 2019
Fantastic opportunity to see the abbey library, but unclear visibility of the guide meant the group drifted apart before we could start the tour so a lot of time waiting which meant we missed a big chunk of time to see the xmas market.
Tour guide tried her best to cover english and Russian which meant it was hard work to just enjoy the view. It felt like a constant stream of words.
Hallstatt was lovely and a great journey make better by the snow covering.
10happy19, Oct 2019
one word... the whole day was excellent! Saw way more than we expected, weather was super. Would have liked to stop here and there for more pictures but that would be impossible for time and space to park bus. Wonderful day!
Babita_K, Oct 2019
This tour is wrong is so many ways. The tour tells you it’s 13 hours but they keep you trapped in the bus for 9-10 hours of that and the rest is a short stop at Admont abbey which is avoidable anyway and then Halstatt. The tour guide whose name I donor remember was terrible too. She talked NON STOP for 9 hours of that bus journey telling history tales. It was like a history lesson. The tour guys must know it’s a Long journey so they try and fill it in with talk I suppose. Then they insist on playing this music non stop so even if you felt like snoozing or some peace and quiet you won’t get it!! She was rude and arrogant. None of the times she mentioned for destinations were true. The driver would take detours that made the road journey longer but she wouldn’t mention it! Then getting into Halstatt we got stuck in a traffic jam for half hour. She wouldn’t tell us until asked that they had one tunnel shut so that caused the jam! This seems like a new tour company. If you want to try around for 10 hours in a bus looking outside the window then this tour is for you else AVOID.

I highly recommend this trip to anyone ..first I couldn't hear the guides voice cause the sound in the bus microphone wasnt clear but after we connected the headphones to the tour device everything become clear ..i would like to thank our guide (Tara) for the great experience she was very friendly and well knowledgeable about any question we ask ..and I advice anyone to have good sleep before this trip cause there are a lot of breathtaking views all over the road beside it's almost 13 hrs trip
The Egyptian guy 😁

nice trip....well organized...….good English speaking guide....nice drive......nice spot to visit though would be great if more time at Hallstatt lake.

Loved this day trip! The Austrian Alps are beautiful. We loved driving through them. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and very good. Our driver was exceptional! We were amazed at his ability to safely maneuver the bus on small roads and in small parking lots. Overall this is definitely a trip we would do again!
Andreas_P, Jul 2019
I have close so many tours from Viator. This was the 1st time we made the tour by bus. I wonder why they have charge my 3 years son since he did not have a car seat therefore no safety no relaxing and no sleeping for him and had to seat all the way to my legs. His whole program became nightmare for us so we could not follow the guide. Unlimited speach in English & russian (bla bla bla) made my wife and me dizzy. Hallstat is beautiful but this tour was a disaster and i expect from you even now to refund my child's unfair charging. Thanks!
