Hallstatt is a fantastic destination, definitely worth visiting. The lake and town are beautiful. There is also an interesting museum with artifacts from Neolithic and Roman times. The boat trip around the lake was also fun. The trip from Vienna takes about 3 hours each way, but the time goes by quickly with a couple of scheduled stops along the way. Our tour guide Lilly, was very nice and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this day trip.

Firstly, about Hallstatt: I have traveled to a lot of countries in Europe. Have seen a lot of small charming towns. However, Hallstatt is just small, that’s it. Neither is it beautiful nor is it magical. Moreover there is nothing to do there other than an ordinary boat tour, which too wasn’t any fun. Many other towns across Europe are better, so if you have traveled in Europe then I suggest you skip this tour.
About the tour: the bus was uncomfortable for the long drive as it was vibrating near the back. There were no seats assigned. Folks were changing seats at every stop. There was some friction between the passengers over this. Families were hogging window seats. I saw a family of four sitting in four window seats. This could have been avoided by assigning seats in the first place. There was a 30 minute restroom stop while going and returning. I think that was unnecessary while going because the next stop after this restroom stop was just 30 minutes away.
This tour and the town of Hallstatt is not worth the time and you can go to some other place during your Europe trip.

Sophia was an amazing guide! Super friendly, great information and would highly recommend. It’s a long day but was still worth it.

Our guide Olga was excellent, very knowledgeable, entertaining, helpful, I needed the wheelchair and she was very helpful with our tour. Kept us very involved on the long drive to the Hallstatt

It is 300kms from Vienna so an 8am departure arriving at approx 1pm at Hallstatt then depart at 4pm back in Vienna at approx 7.30-8pm.
It is beautiful even in the drizzly rain. The amazing history of their salt mining can be seen in the objects and displays in the museum.

Sofia is a great guide. She accounted for every possible situation and provided great information re the trip and all the sites. The town is beautiful.

Everything went well until we were awaken and forced out of the tour bus for the last bathroom break when nobody wanted to go due to exhaustion. We all stood outside for 17 mins waiting for the bus to return.

I had a wonderful day trip to Hallstatt on the 11th of this month. Lily, our tour guide, was absolutely amazing, her calm voice and beautiful storytelling made the experience even more enjoyable and memorable. She shared the history and details in such a captivating way.
A special mention also to our driver, who was efficient and fast while always ensuring a safe and comfortable journey.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I would highly recommend this tour!

Very good , guide was excellent, knowledgeable, driver was good. But bus was very uncomfortable with tight leg room. Door does not close tightly. With shattered driver side window. Boat ride was not necessary taking the time away from seeing the beautiful village
MyLifeasGigi_H, May 2026
The town is very beautiful
There was tons of food options and lots a little shopping stores to go into

Our excursion was truly unforgettable. We began at a quaint restaurant with one-of-a-kind amenities that left a lasting impression. Next, we strolled around a serene lake, taking in the tranquil atmosphere. Hallstatt was simply breathtaking! Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and patient, translating commentary into two languages. Although we weren't dropped off at our hotel as planned, the alternative location near the Opera House was conveniently close to our accommodation.

We enjoyed the trip, the drive was so relaxing and the scenery was breathtaking.
We enjoyed the tour guide Lily's stories😁
Christine_F, May 2026
Long day, but it was worth it to see Hallstatt! Lilly our tour guide was knowledgeable and provided good information about the region we traveled through. Smooth drive to the Alps.
Kevin_K, May 2026
Make sure Sophia is your tour guide because she is extremely knowledgeable and helpful! Also, Hallstatt is a beautiful village!

We recently took a day trip from Vienna to Salzburg and the fairytale views of Hallstatt
Long day, but 100% worth it—mountains, lakes, and postcard-perfect streets all in one trip. Our tour guide Lily was very nice and friendly, so glad we got to meet her.

Hallstatt was a beautiful area, the bus driver and our guide were superb! Sophia was very attentive and answered everyone’s questions.

it is a long ride between Vienna to Hallstatt but it is worth it. We stopped for a very short time to see the Ort Castle and the lake. Beautiful place and beautiful pictures then we arrived to Hallstaff and enjoyed 3 hrs there. Fantastic. But what it made it better was Olga, the guide, she was very good. In total a very nice day.
Alexandros_P, Apr 2026
Everything was perfect and recommended anyway our guide Tasha was fantastic and explained everything in detail
YenJung_C, Apr 2026
It was super nice! We had a packed coach but the tour guide has been doing so wonderfully and feel so happy to experience the great weather and scenery in Hallstatt
Alex_D, Apr 2026
Great tour! Amazing views! We had enough time at Ort Castle to enjoy great scenery. And indeed, the Hallstatt is amazing! Had 3 hours to explore it on our own, absolutely amazing. Highly reccomend to take electric boat ride, totally worth it. Our tour guide Alexander did a great job! Gave us lots of interesting info and facts during bus ride about history of Vienna, Hapsburgs, history of regions we we passing thru. He also told us different historical stories on a return ride back to Vienna, which made it a really enjoyable return! Definetely reccomending this tour!
Owen_M, Apr 2026
Very well organized tour. Guide was knowledgeable and professional. We saw a lot of beautiful scenery on the way to Hallstatt. The driver was also very good. Highly recommend the tour
Betty_N, Apr 2026
A long day but worth it. Dasha was a great guide with lots of interesting information and useful tips for each stop. Hallstatt was beautiful, the 3-hr stop was perfect for sightseeing and a leisurely lunch. The coffee and food at Landzeit restaurants are expensive but good quality. Excellent driver as well.
Angie_D, Apr 2026
Exceptional especially Dasha, our tour guide. The place is beautiful, too bad the viewing platform is still closed.
Aleksandra_I, Apr 2026
We had a truly wonderful day! I went with my mother, and we enjoyed every moment. Aleksander was a very knowledgeable guide who shared many interesting insights about Vienna and its history. Our driver, Gennadiy, was very careful, and the ride was smooth and comfortable. We arrived on time everywhere. Overall, a great team — we will definitely look out for more tours!
Sam_T, Apr 2026
Great if you want to visit Hallstatt. It was a long day but was worth it. Sofia, the tour guide was great. 3 hours free time in Hallstatt was enough time to explore everything, have lunch, etc. I would recommend.
Laura_T, Apr 2026
The title is misleading, our ticket said boat ride included in good weather until June 2026 in the heading, but when we arrived at Hallstatt and asked the guide about it they said it wasn't. Also the website states it is included, it was not and there was no other options on viator to select?
The tour was just okay, we couldn't hear the guide for majority of the trip as she talked so quietly and it made it feel unstructured.
We did get a decent amount of time in Halstatt and were happy to do our own thing. Note The van was SMALL I'm 5'1 and my knees were pressed into the seat in front, very uncomfortable for 7 hours of driving crammed in like sardines. The breakfast stop is very expensive coffee was 8 euro plain sandwichles 13+, get breakfast beforehand.
Matt_R, Apr 2026
It's a long day starting at the meeting point at 8 AM. There were stops every 1.5 to 3 miles so it was manageable. A lot of places in hallstadt will not take credit cards so be prepared for that.
Efthymios_C, Mar 2026
It was a small bus for that kind of a trip, but the trip itself, the driver and the host was great, and the crew friendly!
