Too ambitious and all over the place

Myrna_M, Apr 2026
I’m giving this tour a three star average because my husband would have given it four stars and I would have given it two stars. My husband is also a history buff which made it easier for him to follow the tour guide. Regardless of that fact, him and I thought that the tour was too ambitious because the tour guide wanted to show us too many things. Besides that point, since I had a lesser knowledge of the subject I left the tour feeling confused, disappointed and somewhat annoyed because as you know is an expensive tour and I didn’t get the experience that I wanted. The tour has five stars and a 4.9 rating on Trip Advisor and Viator so when I booked the tour I only read a few of the best reviews. But I should have read the reviews of the people who gave the tour fewer stars, which I did after I took the tour and wanted to know how others felt. What happened was that I found many of those reviews touched on the same complaints that I had about the tour. In fact I could have written a review that someone called Neelesh_S wrote on November of 2024. When I read that review I thought “wow”, this person felt exactly the same way I did, and that was over a year ago! Which makes me think that our tour guide Dace (a lovely and knowledgeable lady), already knows that her style is leaving some people out of having a great experience, and besides the good ratings there is still room for improvement that hasn’t happened. So here are some ideas: 1. Pace yourself and end on time or slightly off time by ten minutes the most. Our tour was almost three hours long. In fact two other single attendees gave excuses and left earlier at different points during the tour. 2. If you are losing members of the tour during the tour that tells you something about your delivery. Avoid talking nonstop in a monotone voice. Show more enthusiasm , and sometimes it’s fine to walk from a tour stop to the next destination in silence. Pauses are a good reboot for the brain to get ready to absorb more knowledge. Also, think that your audience is looking at scenery which may be new to them, and perhaps trying to make sense of what they are seeing for the first time. So, focusing on ongoing information at the same time can be overwhelming. 3. Make the storytelling coherent by having a family tree of the Habsburg’s at hand and maybe saying something like “please make a mental note because we are going to come back to this person later”. The tour felt unstructured like another reviewer stated. 4. Remember that people are on vacation and they want to have a good time. An interesting but enjoyable delivery is essential and also other touristy details like choosing one or two good picture spots at some points during the tour. 5. Talk slowly and clearly. It can be very frustrating for the audience if they feel that they are missing information. Sometimes less is more. Ask yourself what is the most important information about each stop in the schedule; what do I want them to remember? I hope that I have contributed positive suggestions to help make this tour more enjoyable for a broader type of audience in the future. As it is right now I can’t recommend the tour.

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Dear Myrna, Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed feedback. I’m very glad to hear that your husband enjoyed the tour and found it engaging, and I truly appreciate your kind words about my knowledge. At the same time, I’m sorry that the pace and depth made the experience feel overwhelming for you, especially on a first visit. Just to clarify, the two guests who left during the tour had mentioned they needed to return to a work conference in Vienna, and they later shared a very kind review. I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective and will reflect on your comments. Warm regards, Dace

A nice guided tour of historic city highlights with a friendly and energetic guide

Sri_D, Apr 2026
I did a 2.5 hour tour of historic city highlights that l enjoyed very much. Guide Gisele was very knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic. She showed a lot of places while making sure everyone got their restroom break, coffee etc. We even went to a famous coffee shop that had nice chocolates and kaiserschmarrn (a delicacy made of pan cakes and fruit) that was delicious! The tour had a lot of walking that is to be kept in mind for anyone with physical limitations. I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city for the first time with limited time as it gave me a comprehensive overview of the historic sights in the area.

Epic introduction to Vienna

Emma_W, Apr 2026
That was an epic introduction to the heart of Vienna. My first time visiting such a beautiful city. Thank you so much Giselle for being such a pleasurable, extremely knowledgable guide.

Fantastic City Tour!

Erin_M, Apr 2026
This tour is not one to miss! Our guide, Dace, did an excellent job sharing her knowledge of the city with us — as well as mixing in a few personal stories and adding a touch of humor. It was set at a very manageable walking pace (we had some people in their 20s and some 65+), and we even had a few opportunities to sit down. Since we had such a small group, a bonus was that we were able to go into a few areas of museums and Mozart/Beethoven’s apartment complexes that you wouldn’t know you could freely go into as a tourist just passing by. I recommend doing this towards the beginning of your stay as it really helps orient you around the Innere Stadt and Hofburg Palace area — and that’s on top of it being a great crash course introduction of the city of Vienna and Austrian history. Thank you Dace!

This walking tour of Vienna is Tops!

Ellen_B, Apr 2026
Informative and delightful guide, Dace, walked and talked for 3 hours stopping along the way to share the many insights of Austria’s ruling and conquering powers over the centuries. Stopped for a toilet break along the way. Highly recommend to attend as many city tours as possible as each guide has interesting stories and perspectives on Austria’s history. Walked by an apartment that Beethoven lived in for a few years was among the many highlights.

A friendly, professional, fascinating & incredibly knowledgeable tour led by Dace. As well as some of the main sights she took us through little known areas, into arcades, churches (where she showed us fascinating artwork & details) etc. Her knowledge of the history & politics of Vienna was unsurpassed. We had a great afternoon - thank you Dace.

Andy_B, Feb 2026
Dace was our guide on our 2-5 hour tour around Vienna, and she was wonderful! Very knowledgeable, witty and personable! We walk around the majority of the city, seeing tons of highlights. Dace did an amazing job telling us the history, giving suggestions of things to do and see after the tour, and injecting little stories about points of interest. It was the perfect length of tour to see enough and get a feel for other things we wanted to see and do in Vienna. Thank you, Dace!

This tour sets you up to make the most of a Vienna holiday

Susanjselby, Jan 2026
Great introduction to Vienna, the Historical Centre is remarkably compact. Our guide, Dace, who spoke accent free English, showed us some behind the doors visits of some buildings Dace also has a fabulous sense of humour. We knew virtually nothing about Vienna and left the tour feeling equipped to choose how to spend the rest of our time and where to eat! We also passed the Spanish Riding school, which was a treat! Everything is expensive in Vienna but this tour was worth it.

This is exactly as...

Kathryn_H, Jan 2026
This is exactly as described. There is no entry to attractions so you are looking at the outside of buildings. This tour is too expensive for what it is.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Dear Kathryn, thank you very much for sharing your thoughts about touring with Gabriela. Our Vienna Historic Center walking tour is designed as a mostly outdoor experience, focusing on the stories, history, and atmosphere of the city rather than entering attractions, exactly as described in the tour details. Many guests enjoy this format for the personal touch, insights, and the opportunity to see Vienna through a local professional guide’s perspective. We understand that everyone has different expectations and we truly appreciate you taking the time to share yours. We sincerely apologise for not meeting your expectations. Warm regards, Dace
