Itinerary
Greet your guide at the Vienna Explorer tour office on Franz-Josefs-Kai and make your way to a local metro station. From here, take the metro to a train station and board a train destined for the Wachau Valley: a UNESCO–listed region replete with vineyards, wineries, and quaint villages.
On arrival in the valley, collect your modern bikes and listen to a short safety briefing. The gentle, 15-mile (24-kilometer) route is comprised primarily of cycle paths and quiet roads, ensuring you feel safe and secure throughout.
Pedal beside the picturesque Danube River and feast your senses on the scenery before stopping at your first winery to enjoy a tasting. During each tasting, a wine expert details the nuances of each wine.
Midway through the day, stop in the charming village of Dürnstein to explore during free time. Opt to ascend to the ruins of a fortress used to incarcerate King Richard the Lionheart, or simply relax on the beach beside the Danube. Swimming is optional, so bring along a towel and bathing suit if you’d like to dip in the Danube.
After lunch (own expense), continue cycling to your final winery before returning to the train station for the transfer back to Vienna.

Amazing experience!! Had the best time with my guide, Szana. She was very knowledgeable, informative, and so fun, it was like hanging out with a friend. We stopped at two wineries, both unique and great in their own way, along with a village where I hiked up to the monument. Breathtaking views. I did this at the end of October with the most incredible fall colors. The weather was lovely and sunny, a full sleeve shirt was enough for the most part.
Tip - carry more cash than you think you’d need (although, again, Szana was amazing in helping to navigate this). I would do this again and I would highly recommend Szana! She also gave me other cool tips for my visit.

Departure was on time. There was no opportunity to fill or buy water before we boarded the train and one chance before getting on the bikes. Once should be enough but just in case you thought you’d ‘wait’. Don’t. Nicholas was very knowledgeable and each vintner that we met was a charismatic and engaging person. The story of their wines and vineyards is fascinating. The bikes were in tiptop shape and easy to ride.
It is an all day event so bring a backpack or small bag with sunscreen and a few snacks . Lunch was good but only 2 choices. If you’re selective or have a dietary need tell the guide and they’ll be sure your needs are met.

This was truly the highlight of our trip. Biking through the.Wachau valley was absolutely gorgeous. The wine tasting was incredibly fun. We had a lovely lunch in Durnstein and had time to explore the lovely village and also climb to see the ruins where Richard of Lionhart was held captive. I’d recommend doing that for anyone that can do a hike because the views are spectacular. Sonne our guide was incredibly fun and accommodating.

This was such a memorable excursion! I hadn’t ridden a bike in years and I’m so glad we did tgis. I was a bit nervous to ride thru the city but the guides did a great job escorting us. The views were amazing! The wine was fantastic and time to shop was also included.

AMAZING experience. This is the best way to experience Wachau Valley and their wine region. Nicholas was the best guide. We had gorgeous views on either side of us entire bike ride, saw so many adorable towns, had a fantastic lunch, and tried divine wines. We have done winery tours on other trips where vans drive you to and from and now I see how much we missed out on during those. This allowed you to be in nature and beauty.

It was a great day with great weather and a good group of participants. Cycling along the Danube through vineyards was a great experience. Our guide did not allow opportunities to stop for photos and could have been more careful in checking that the group crossed roads safely and did not take wrong turns.

It is a wonderful trip with energetic guides and wineries. The bicycle ride is relatively flat and not overly challenging. Beautiful scenery. Great way to see the countryside.

Trip was well planned-included train, ferry across the Donau/Danube. Guide was knowledgeable, fun. Bikes were good, perfect for the trip. Good value if you like biking in gorgeous nature, stopping in beautiful cobbled stone towns and awesome wine tasting, history with cool people. Enjoy.

This might be my favorite day of the week! Our family of five (ages 25 to 61) enjoyed this tremendously! Our guide Alexandra Manev was the BEST! The other participants were so lovely. The 2 wineries we visited were great. The terrain was not too hilly. Lunch was great. The information from Alexandra was so good. I highly recommend!!!

Booked bike tour not realizing our river cruise cruised during the day. I realize that have to notify 24 hrs in advance but had no way of knowing our cruise was leaving during the day when it cruised at night the whole week. Unforeseen circumstances to me. Refused to refund our money

We're sorry that you wasn't able to attend our winery bike tour. We can fully understand your frustration that you were forced to miss this tour due to your cruise ship's scheduling.
Because the scheduled wine tasting bike tour still took place from start to finish, and we have no influence on your cruise ship's schedule, and your refund request fell outside of the 24 hour viator cancellation policy, we see that there is no fault from our side, therefore we could not issue you a refund on this occasion.
We would reccommend that you contact your cruise ship company and/or your travel insurance to see if or what compensation they could offer you, if you feel that they made a schedule change that resulted in you missing our wine tasting bike tour.

Definitely a must do experience! The scenery along the Danube is so beautiful. Iconic Austria. Our guide was so friendly and knowledgeable. It did rain the whole time but they provided ponchos and it was really wasn’t a bad experience with the rain.

The best way to explore Wachau Valley is definitely with a bike and this tour. Our guides Sona and Raegan provided us information regarding the region and kept us safe whilst navigating Krems into the valley and I had a great time despite not being used to biking very often!

This was one of the best tours and best guide we’ve ever had! It is a full day with a train ride to the countryside and biking along the Danube to many villages and wineries. You can even hike to a castle or swim after lunch! Definitely worth your time and money!

It was a terrific biking experience. If u have bike shorts - wear them as the bikes are rough on the behind. The tour was interesting, challenging & relaxing. Beautiful scenery - biking through vineyards & along Danube- tasted great wines. Our guide was fabulous. Highly recommend.

It was an amazing tour through the beautiful Wachau valley. We stopped at 2 wine producers, both totally original and make brilliant wine, as well as being great story tellers! A really special day. Our guide, Nicolas, was also really great and made the whole day even better.

Our tour guide was great, but the overall experience itself was not worth the amount of money charged. We took public transport to the wine valley (which was fine) and didn't do a ton of cycling. The first winery we went to was charming and the owner was amazing. The second winery, not so much. The tasting was in a basement and there was zero explanation of each wine that was given to us. This tour is way too overpriced for what you get.

Thank you very much for leaving a review. I´m sorry that you feel you didn't receive the full value of the tour. Our guides contact wineries to arrange bookings on the morning of the tour, and each guide has their favourite(s). However, especially in the July/August period, some wineries close, and our guides have to find alternatives. So we're sorry that the second winery wasn't up to a similar standard as the first winery.
Regarding the cycling distance, this can be variable depending on the guide and the cycling ability of the group. With stronger groups, the guide might "up the pace" and therefore distance to ensure the group get more cycling done. The point here is that our guides adapt to the group they have.

A great tour! Tim did a great job mitigating some unforeseen circumstances. We were fortunate to visit the small winery of his personal friend; and it was magical. Make sure to pack a water bottle and sun protection!

Excellent way to escape the city and experience the countryside! We had a great time biking to two wineries for tastings. We also stopped at a nearby village for lunch and shopping. Would definitely recommend!
