Itinerary

Get out of the city and into nature as you visit famous Mt. Fuji and some top nearby attractions, including Lake Ashi and Mt. Komagatake, on this full-day excursion from Tokyo.

Start your tour with pickup from a central meeting point in Shinjuku and proceed on an air-conditioned bus for your ride to Mt. Fuji.

Continue to Mt. Fuji’s 5th Station, which lies about halfway up the mountain, for incredible views. Take some time to wander the site’s souvenir store and its torii gates and shrines, which help commemorate the mountain’s symbolic role as a transition between heaven and earth. Stop by a local restaurant to enjoy a Japanese-style lunch (if option is selected)

Head next to Lake Ashi, which lies in a crater formed by a massive volcanic eruption around 3,000 years ago. Take a short cruise of this postcard-perfect body of water, admiring views of Mt. Fuji, Mt. Komagatake, and other peaks in the distance.

Move back to the lakeshore after your cruise, where you’ll continue to the Mt. Komagatake Ropeway, which will whisk you to the mountain’s peak. Climb ever higher aboard this aerial tramway as you head to the summit, where you’ll then have time to wander around. Explore the beautiful views as you explore the top of the peak, including great views of Mt. Fuji, the Izu Peninsula, and Izu islands, among other features.

Your tour concludes with a coach transfer back to the Tokyo area or an alternative location, depending on the option you selected at booking.

craig_t, Jan 2026
Wonderful driver and tour guide nao. I was disappointed we never got to station 5 but overall the food the trip the Customerservice was wonderful. I belived the cruise needs a narrated tour guide because we were left to figure out why we took the cruise and overall the trip was as expected a bit overpriced but lovelybteam

Mt Fuji is a magical...

RAVIT_Y, May 2025
Mt Fuji is a magical place, however, the time given at the 5th station on Mt.Fuji is not enough, didn't give us time to explore around and breath the nature. The Cable car at Hakone, is a waste of money and time! Also, Lunch: quality is very poor, the drum performance is too short. On the good side: We had a great tour guide, thank you Mr. Shin for making this day special, we can tell how much you love your job and your country!! ;-)

Response from Host, May 2025

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We're delighted that you found Mt. Fuji magical and enjoyed our guide's guiding. We appreciate your insights about the time allocation at the 5th station and the cable car experience. We're constantly striving to improve our tours and will certainly consider your comments for future enhancements. We're sorry to hear that the lunch didn't meet your expectations and will look into improving its quality. We hope you'll give us another opportunity to showcase the beauty of Japan in the future.

Mt Fuji Cannot Disappoint!

Olivia_M, Apr 2025
Going to Mt Fuji during Cherry Blossom season is highly recommended. Hiro was very kind and made sure everyone understood how to take their trains after the tour. And I loved the drummers! Fantastic show!

Response from Host, Apr 2025

Tanu_S, Apr 2025
Pretty awful, only because of the guide ( TK ). Very unpleasant demeanor, didn’t engage at all. Kept reading out from his notes in monotones sometimes and very rude .

Response from Host, Apr 2025

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We deeply regret that our guide's performance did not meet your expectations. Your feedback is invaluable as we strive to improve our services. We will address these issues internally to ensure a better experience for future guests. Waster money and time.

Louise_R, Mar 2025
Drove in a bus for two hours and then just as we arrived tour operator said the road is closed from snow. Obviously they knew before we left Tokyo. Wasted day, and money.

Response from Host, Apr 2025

We greatly appreciate your feedback about your recent experience. We're sorry for the unexpected turn of events and the resulting disappointment. Your comments are invaluable in helping us enhance our service quality and communication. We're committed to improving and hope you'll give us another chance to demonstrate our dedication to customer satisfaction.

Dianne_C, Mar 2025
The weather was cold and snowy when we went and we did not see views of Mt Fuji. Not the company’s fault and we had fun anyway! Not everyone can say they were in a sleet storm on Mt Fuji! Our guide was good and planned well to get us up to station 4 before it closed.

Response from Host, Mar 2025

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your tour despite the challenging weather conditions. We're glad you found a unique adventure in the sleet storm on Mt Fuji. It's wonderful to know that our guide's planning helped you reach Station 4 before closing. We hope you'll join us again for another exciting tour, perhaps with clearer skies next time!

Sunrise Tour with Nao

Devin_M, Jan 2025
Wonderful surface level tour of Fuji and Hakone areas. The whole tour was seamless and well executed, and made us want to return someday. We arrived at the departure point at exactly the scheduled time due to traffic, and there was someone outside to flag us down and make sure we got on the bus quickly. Our tour guide, Nao was engaging and fluent in English (it turns out that he went to college in the US). He has climbed the mountain multiple times, and knew quite a bit about it and the local culture. Lunch was delightful and quite extensive (we got the normal beef sukiyaki option. Apparently there's a government subsidy of wagyu right now, so our hot pot was made with this.) The taiko performance over lunch was engaging. It was a nice extra that the other tours don't seem to have. If we do any more organized tours while we're here, we'll definitely consider Sunrise again first.

Wonderful day tour to the Hakone area.

Claudine_V, Nov 2024
Loved our guide. I was afraid there might be a lot of walking but no, it was great. Wonderful to see the countryside during the bus ride. Lunch was really good. Beautiful mountains!

Great tour

MariaAussielita_L, Oct 2024
Everything was fantastic! Everybody enjoyed the trip. We can do this tour again and again. Our tour guide Miko was really WONDERFUL. No dull moment during this tour.

Amazing experience!!

This tour is absolutely amazing. From taking pics at my Fuji to the boat tour. 10/10, 5 star, A+!!!!

Great day

Jacqueline_M, Oct 2024
Well organised, smooth travelling, very pleasant informative guide and wonderful scenery. The drum show at lunch was also entertaining. Lunch was tasty and delivered well.

The entire tour was excellent, what made it most memorable was Joe our tour guide, he is very knowledgeable and extremely engaging. Joe is a credit to JTB Sunrise Tours..

Great tour

Phil_H, Oct 2024
The tour was very well organised. The bus was comfortable. Lunch was delicious and most importantly our guide Joe was fantastic.

Excellent tour -- would recommend

Corena_D, Oct 2024
Excellent tour. Hiro was a wonderful guide. The bus driver was fantastic, and it was a beautiful, clean bus. All the stops were well-paced and interesting. No rushing, not boring. Good quality entertainment, lunch and sights. Would recommend.

Rushed visits

Colin_M, Sep 2024
Guide was very guide but the various stops were really too rushed. Also no seat reserved so had to stand on train back to Tokyo.

Response from Host, Sep 2024

Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. We're pleased to hear you found our guide helpful, but we apologize if the tour felt rushed. Regarding the bullet train seating, we also apologize for the inconvenience. Although our itinerary indicates that the return bullet train was not a designated seat, we recognize that the explanation may not have been clear enough. We'll work to make this information clearer in our tour descriptions. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Fuji epic

Christina_C, Sep 2024
Breath taking veiws, and a very engaging and considerate guide and driver. A great 1st day trip to take in the beauty of mount Fuji

Terrible experience

Sohini_B, Sep 2024
We were looking forward to this day trip but unfortunately the weather was bad. While we understand the weather is not under anyone’s control, we were most disappointed to learn that despite not being taken to see Mt Fuji (at the 5th station) or on the Hakone ropeway ride (in lieu we were taken to an aquarium) which were the main attractions, the tour operator JTB only refunded a bare 10% of the tour cost citing “other activitIes” which were undertaken and that apparently Mt Fuji and Lake Hakone ropeway ride accounted for only 10% of the total costs. This is very hard to believe and is unprofessional on the part of the tour operator and Viator (for not negotiating better with the tour operator) to only refund so little for the main attractions which were not even shown to us.

Response from Host, Sep 2024

Thank you for your feedback. It's most regrettable that you couldn't fully enjoy the tour due to the bad weather. We understand that the changes to the tour and the subsequent refund did not meet your expectations. We truly appreciate your understanding in this matter. We will strive to improve our tours to ensure satisfaction even in unfavorable weather conditions.

Great tour

Roderick_S, Sep 2024
Marie our guide was excellent. Learned a lot about local culture as well. Very good lunch and taiko drum entertainment a bonus

You can’t see the iconic Fuji

Cathie_H, Aug 2024
The JTB guide was excellent and informative and so was video in bus BUT Fuji is enshrouded in cloud so waste of money depending on the season you go. Same with Lake Ashi. You don’t go on the junk if you do Rodeway but can’t see a thing from there either.

Could be better

jaincm, Aug 2024
It would be great if it was a shorter drive and more time spent on a short hike up Mount Fuji. A lot of time is spent on the bus so I’m not so sure of this experience.

Great guide!!

Hyunwoo_P, Aug 2024
It was nice to take a tour to several places including the extra view areas as a sightseeing. Thank you so much!

Glory_N, Jul 2024
We had a great time and our guide Mr.Joe was the best guide ever. Thank you so much Mr.Joe (viator). I love Japan

Enjoyable experience

Cassandra_R, Jul 2024
We had a lovely adventure!! We got to enjoy many sights and travel through many areas. We unfortunately could not experience the entire experience due to weather but they made it up to us by going to different locations like the Aquarium and a lovely museum. The best part was the tour guide himself. He is very knowledgeable and fun to listen to.

Great views, well organized tour, perfect guide

Ceyhun_A, Jun 2024
Both the Mountain and Hakone and the cruise at the lake were perfect. Our guide Toshi was very helpful and knowledgeable. The traditional Japanese lunch was well worth it and comes with a show, don't skip out on that. Going back with Shinkansen is a great choice for anyone staying near the Tokyo JR station

Perfect trip if you have good weather

Erica_F, Jun 2024
Overall it was a good day. The weather was terrible so we didn't get to see Mt Fuji at all. But this is not the operators fault. If the weather was good, this would have been a perfect trip. Our guide was good at keeping everyone entertained on the long drives. Because there were so many stops, not a lot of time and everything is so far away from each other, you only get to spend 10mins on Mt Fuji which is barely enough time to look at anything. 10mins in Hakone and maybe 20mins at the top of the Ropeway. But to cram all of those things in one day is good if you are time poor. We selected the "no lunch" option because it reads as though there will be somewhere else to buy food but there isn't. The lunch is held at a random hotel off the highway so it's best to bring snacks with you or buy food at one of the earlier stops. All in all it was still a good trip

A day well spent

rick, Jun 2024
So many memories created in one day. The three phases Give you just enough of each experience. The meal and entertainment were also exceptional!

1st time at mt fuji

Mitzy_P, Jun 2024
Tour guide was awesome. It was cloudy that day so the mountain was not as visible but it overall a good experience

Hakune

MohamedNiyas_J, May 2024
Lunch could have been better with varieties for selection. We were so unlucky since on 27th May, the Mount Fuji 5th station was closed and Cable car was not available due to whether. So, the tour was just a ride without any experience.
