Itinerary
Your day starts early with pickup in central Tokyo. Take in the scenery as you depart Tokyo for a 2.5-hour drive to Mt Fuji, Japan’s highest mountain.
Proceed by coach to Mt Fuji’s 5th Station that is located at 7,545 feet (2,300m) about halfway up the mountain and offers another vantage point for Mt Fuji and the surrounding lakes (subject to weather conditions). The 5th Station also features shrines, torii gates, souvenir shops, and perhaps a few climbers completing their preparations for their ascent.
Then have time to enjoy Japanese-style lunch (if you select the "+ Lunch" option at checkout). Otherwise, you have the option to buy your own meal before departure. Then drive to Lake Ashi, located nearby in Hakone National Park. Admire the pretty scenery as you take a short cruise across the lake, which is surrounded by mountains including Mt Fuji and Mt Komagatake.
Then journey to the top of Mt Komagatake on the Mt Komagatake Ropeway, an aerial tram that lifts off from the shores of the lake and takes you up Mt Komagatake in an enclosed cabin with 360-degree views. When you reach the summit, enjoy time to take in views over Lake Ashi and Mt Fuji. You can also take a short stroll along one of the walking trails at the mountain top.
After visiting Mt Komagatake, transfer by coach to the evening bullet train (Shinkansen) for your return to Tokyo Station.

We had some minor issues due to the weather and did not get to go to the cable car. We instead did a boat ride, which was fun, but that had us doing two boat rides for the day. The guide was great and very informative about timing of events and breaks. The check in process was messy and hard to find. Overall it was a good tour and we got some good views if Mt Fuji.

Long day but enjoyable and well organised guide was Amazing and knowledgeable loved it
Only let down was poor meeting point address where to board the coach first thing
Tokyo bus station is a big place
Tessa_B, Mar 2026
Hiroshi was an amazing tour guide! Unfortunately due to the weather we couldn’t see the top of mt Fuji but overall the tour was great. Bring headphones or something to keep you occupied on the bus! Lots of tourist shops along the way too. Plenty of stops for the restroom and drinks/snacks

weather has vote. if weather turns bad, the tour organizers have a plan. Relax and realize, they have your best in mind.
ben_c, Mar 2026
Great value for money, I felt there was a good ammount of time given at each stop and the guide was very friendly.
The only thing I found a little confusing is that when I booked there was only 1 option for meetup / drop-off point and it seemed many others on the trip had other arangements such as taxi / bus to shinjuku / shinkansen to Tokyo station ect and would have been nice to have those options available also.
AnnMaree_H, Mar 2026
Check out if it’s a public holiday before booking. The bus ride was very long and then there was not enough time to get further than 1 st station on mt Fuji. We didn’t have the best weather either so all a bit disappointing. Our guide was very nice and friendly. Not much we could do about the weather though.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you for your valuable feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, especially regarding the bus ride and limited time at Mt. Fuji. We understand the weather was also a factor, which is beyond our control. We appreciate your kind words about our guide. We will take your comments into consideration for future improvements to ensure a more satisfying experience for our guests.

Beautiful scenery, well planned activities and comfortable bus. TK was a great tour guide. We had a great time.
Lara_O, Mar 2026
The most amazing experience. The mountain was doing her thing no cloud cover today so absolutely stunning. Went up the mountain snow everywhere. We loved it. The boat cruise on the lake gave us the perfect views of Mt Fuji. Lunch was great with a fantastic drum show. Then a cable car ride up Mt hakone vies were stunning. And to top off the day the bullet train back to Toyoko.
Shareen_L, Mar 2026
We had a wonderful time taking in the sites of Mt. Fuji. Although we were not able to go to the 5th Station due to weather, we were able to go to two alternate sites that provided spectacular snow capped views. The sukiyaki lunch was lovely and the drum show was enjoyable. We rounded out our trip with a boat tour with stunning views of the lake and a cable car trip to a shrine at the summit. Our tour guide, Kaora, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful throughout the trip.

Organized and friendly guide who taught origami on the bus trip to Mt. Fuji. However, the restaurant isn’t a restaurant. It looks like a gymnasium and doesn’t have windows or a view as expected. Cable cars not running due to wind so went to an art gallery instead. Bummer.
Brad_G, Feb 2026
Overall this trip was pretty good. Excellent history and sight seeing. I do feel like they pushed eco friendly tourism and the phone app onto the group. I am not against either but I just felt it was pushed a little hard.
Also I would have liked to have seen more lunch options.

I found it odd that our tour guide told us about the prison system and that the guards had to change the prisoners diapers.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Thank you for your feedback. We sincerely apologize that the guide made you uncomfortable. We have noted your comments and will address this with our guides to ensure a more pleasant experience for all our guests. We hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a more enjoyable experience in the future.

Needs to work on directions for meeting point seems to be a common issue with every tour l have taken.
Now the tour itself was good but l found the tour group was kind of kept apart l was sat by vmyself on the bus was served lunch alone on set table by myself unlike other tours no group photos or any photos were taken by the guide and didn't really seem to have any set structure to the tour just driven to location given 15 min to take photos then back on the bus would of been nice to have a bit more of information about the spots we visited.
KATHRYN_M, Jan 2026
We loved this tour , Mt Fuji was majestic ,Nao our driver was knowledgeable, informative and very engaging . He helped us on our first bullet train ride and guided us up to the last stop
keith_d, Jan 2026
Every stop was rushed to much to seein one day. The best stop was Mount Fuji of course but 30 mins at base 5 hardly time to take photos
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thank you for your feedback on your recent tour, especially your positive comments about Mount Fuji. We regret the rushed pace and appreciate your insights. We are reviewing our itineraries based on valuable input like yours to enhance future experiences. We hope to welcome you back soon.
Kerrie_O, Dec 2025
Our guide Joy was a literal joy. She explained so much about each prefecture and what is it famous for and of course seeing Mt Fuji up close was a treat. I’d recommend it, though perhaps the bus could stop when there are really good photo ops, instead of taking them from the window of the bus
L_R, Dec 2025
The bus ride to 5th station was smooth & safe. Our tour guide, Shige, was a wealth of information for our particular destinations as well as glimpses of life in Japan. Figured at the start that we won’t be seeing Mt. Fuji due to inclement weather, and it’s ok. All in all, the tour was a great start for us in Japan.
Kathy_W, Dec 2025
I didn't expect to view Mt. Fuji in so many different ways and such proximity. Our guide, Sky was kind, interesting and interested. It was more than a job for him.
Response from Host, Dec 2025
Thank you for your review! We're glad you enjoyed our guide and the views. Join us again!

Nice bus, took us up to the 5th station. Then drive to lunch and drums, nice experience then to our ferry to take a gondola to the top of a peak overlooking a lake then onto the bullet train.
Response from Host, Dec 2025
Thank you for your review! We're glad you enjoyed the tour. Hope to see you again!
Bernard_N, Dec 2025
How deeply compassionate the Host and the Bus Operator were in a time when my child was not feeling well, and they were sensitive to her condition.
Response from Host, Dec 2025
Thank you for your heartwarming review! We're so glad our team's compassion made a difference. We hope to serve you again!
Carlos_R, Nov 2025
It rained most of the day, and no visibility of Fuji. Host TK was helpful and informative most of the ride.
Response from Host, Dec 2025
Thank you for your additional feedback. We truly understand your disappointment regarding the rain and lack of Fuji visibility. We are, however, very glad to hear that the guide was helpful and informative during the ride, and we will certainly pass on your kind words to him. Your input is invaluable as we continue to review our operations and strive for better experiences.
GerardoS_G, Nov 2025
My experience with this tour was, unfortunately, a major disappointment—a complete waste of time and money. I genuinely felt that the service delivered did not match what was promised.
Despite clearly unfavorable weather conditions, the tour was not canceled, which resulted in spending most of the day sitting on the bus with very little actual sightseeing. The visit to Mount Fuji was especially frustrating: we were dropped off on the roadside with no visibility at all, and no alternative plan was offered.
The itinerary felt irrelevant and poorly planned. We were taken to a shopping stop that added no value, the included lunch was bland, and the activities were rushed, lacking meaningful explanations or cultural context. The actual time spent experiencing the destinations was minimal, while the time on the bus was excessive.
I understand that the weather cannot be controlled, but transparency, alternatives, or a responsible cancellation are absolutely possible—none of which were provided. In other destinations, I’ve experienced far more professional handling of similar situations.
In summary, this tour turned out to be frustrating, disappointing, and, in my opinion, a poor investment. I would not recommend it under the conditions in which it was operated.
I understand that when I booked this tour, it was stated that it would not be canceled even in poor weather conditions. However, the least that could be done is to look for other options or alternatives. As it was, the experience felt more like a bus crossing than an actual tour.
Due to this experience, I decided to cancel my remaining two tours in Kyoto. I no longer want, nor do I feel comfortable, taking any bus tours through Viator unless changes are made when a tour fails to deliver what was scheduled.
Response from Host, Dec 2025
Thank you for your detailed feedback. We are truly sorry to hear your tour was a major disappointment and did not meet your expectations, especially regarding the weather handling and itinerary. We sincerely apologize for the frustration caused. Your valuable comments are taken very seriously, and we are committed to thoroughly reviewing our tour operations, including alternative options and communication, to prevent similar situations. We hope to regain your trust and provide a much better experience in the future.

Might not see Fuji from station 5 due to weather/cloud conditions. However once cleared later great views from the other stops especially the cable cars at Hanoke (sp).

Thank you for your review! We're glad you eventually enjoyed the great views from other stops despite the initial weather. We hope to welcome you back!

Fantastic tour in every way. Our experienced guide, Miko, provided interesting cultural information, interesting commentary and even origami craft while cheerfully keeping us on time for the various stops: bus ride, Fuji 5th station, fab lunch and drum show,
boat ride, gondola, and bullet train return. Our driver chauffeured us smoothly. We can honestly say this is the best tour we have taken while travelling. Many thanks to Sun Tours and their terrific employees.
