What a cool (literal) experience. Ines did a wonderful job explaining what we were doing and the history and landscape behind it. She handled the more nervous participants with ease, while still giving the rest of us a wonderful experience.
The experience itself was humbling. It was crazy to think about the water temperature and where it came from, while having the same thoughts to the geological side of things. Once in a lifetime experience that I would recommend.
We did the dry suits and were very pleased. They kept everything but your hands and a small part of your face perfectly warm. The hot chocolate after was a nice add on!

Amazing experience, Dori the instructor was amazing and took great pictures. Must do bucket list item when in Iceland.

It was an amazing experience. Our guide Kaja was great and the snorkeling in the pristine clean and icy cold waters of Silfra was unforgettable. It was not just the snorkelling itself it was the whole experience of being able to whitstand the elements. We were really lucky to pick a very nice December day that was not too cold and had no wind either. Having the experience with ice cold water swimming before I knew the feeling of extreme happiness aferwards. It just makes you laugh.

Unique experience in a beautiful national park. A great tour company and Dory was an amazing guide! Even though it was a daunting experience, she was kind, helpful, and accommodating. She made my grandpa feel comfortable and it was a great experience for all of us. And the hot chocolate was a sweet treat as well. The water was so cold but it was worth it. Would highly recommend this adventure and this group.

Did the tour with Alex. Pretty incredibly experience, stay somewhat warm the whole time except hands and face. The guide was super helpful in getting people ready and wrap things up at the end.

The guide Alex was the Best! He was kind and fun. The water was cold but it was worth it to see a once in a lifetime view how our world is changing.

Snorkeling in the silfra fissure is a bucket-list experience, but our guide Alex really elevated it! He taught us about the location and each piece of equipment as we went along so both of our teens and my husband felt comfortable. Love the pictures! 100/10 stars!

We had the best snorkeling experience. What made the trip even better was our tour guide, Alex. He was so attentive, fun and made us feel so comfortable every step of the way.

We loved this snorkeling tour!! The water was so clear and pretty! Alex was amazing even though we booked last minute! 10/10 would recommend to all!

It was terrific, the guide was great and the whole experience was great. Swimming in the clear water and seeing down 42 meters and seeing your friends flying around in the water was just wonderful. I highly recommend this trip.

One of the best things I have ever done. Would definitely recommend it can be very cold but the dry suits keep you 95% dry. Guides are great and very helpful. If you do anything in Iceland do this

An amazing experience. Very well organized.
If you are able, I would recommend a wetsuit vs dry suit. The wetsuit will allow you to dive down where the dry suit keeps keep you buoyant and on the surface of the water
Response from Host, Aug 2024
Thank you for your review! We're delighted to hear you had an amazing experience and found everything well organised. Your tip about choosing a wetsuit for more diving flexibility is helpful for future adventurers. We appreciate your recommendation and hope to see you back for more incredible experiences!

I’m a big girl and they didn’t have suits to fit me. My husband and son went but they said it’s very difficult to do. It’s hard to swim, it’s very cold, and you can’t actually touch 2 tectonic plates. The best thing about the experience was the guide, Fernando. He was nice, funny and pleasant and a good guide.
Response from Host, Jul 2024
Hello Allison K
We appreciate the kind words on Fernando, your guide, and will make sure to relay the message to him.
We are also very sorry to hear that your expectations on the Silfra snorkelling tour were not fully met. We have now talked to your guide Fernando and other staff on location that day. We have also read our report of that specific tour which are made by our guides at the end of every tour.
Your booking made through Viator was for wetsuit snorkelling in Silfra as noted in the header of this review. Once on location, as requested, we accommodated your party in drysuits instead.
All of our suits, both wetsuits and drysuits, come in standard sizes from XS-4XL. Including standard few sizes of attached boots. We do not carry any custom sizes or tailor made drysuits or wetsuits.
Information regarding minimum and maximum height and weight can be found on our website and all 3rd party booking agencies websites such as Viator for example. We are well aware that people come in different sizes and shapes and we do our very best to accommodate everyone within our given minimum and maximum height/weight ratios.
In some cases that means that we will provide customers with suits that can be larger in width or height then needed. In such cases we will use straps on both sleeves and ankles for customers better comfort in the suits.
As your booking was made in wetsuits, no information regarding drysuits can be found on the Viator wetsuit booking page. All drysuits are big and bulky and constrict momentum. Drysuits are made for cold water condition scuba diving, in situations such as in Silfra. One of the requirements for participating on the Silfra snorkelling tour is to be able to swim unassisted and feel comfortable in water.
Under our Viator drysuit booking page the following information can be found:
"Please note that drysuits can sometimes feel quite tight and constricting, especially around the neck and wrists"
"Not recommended for people with claustrophobia (Wetsuit can be a better option if you are claustrophobic)"
When you arrived on location and after we checked you in on the tour we did provide you with a drysuit that fitted you. After you tried to don the suit but due to discomfort in the drysuit you made a decision on your own free will to not continue on the tour. Your daughter also made the same decision and decided not to continue on the tour.
Your remaining party of 2 did continue and finished the full tour.
We sell exactly what we do advertise which is a guided snorkelling tour in Silfra, a pure glacial water fissure that is 2C/35F in temperature and situated between two tectonic plates.
Information that the water is glacial water can be found on the Viator tour info/booking page so the fact that the water is cold should not come as a surprise. Exactly nowhere on the tour info/booking page does it say that it is possible to touch 2 tectonic plates.
Silfra is located in Thingvellir National park, a rift valley situated in-between two tectonic plates with around 4 miles or 6-7 kilometres between the two. The two plates are constantly pushing apart, separating around 2-3 cm or an inch a year.
The following information can be found on the Viator tour info/booking page where you booked your tour:
"...a PADI-certified dive guide will take you to Silfra, a fissure between North America and Europe in UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park that marks where the two continental plates are slowly drifting apart."
Regards,
The Adventure Vikings team

Excellent guides. Very helpful and informative. Dry suits made the excursion so much more comfortable
Samantha_H, Mar 2024
Seeing how beautiful and clear the water was. Being able to comfortably swim in such cold waters was nice.

Amazing. One of the best things we did while we were in Iceland. Inigo was an awesome tour guide. He made the experience fun and even more enjoyable. My only recommendation is to bring warm socks. My toes got cold.
Kay_C, Oct 2023
Fantastic activity, we were given dry suits, not nearly as cold as we imagined it would be. The kit is well looked after and the guides were excellent. We had Inigo, who was not only knowledgable about the area, but really good fun too.
Priscilla_K, Sep 2023
My husband and I had a great time snorkeling with this company. The guides were friendly and informative. The group size was around 6 people, so it didn't feel crowded or rushed in the water, which of course is stunning.
LORI_H, Sep 2023
Dry-Suiting up was uncomfortable. Our Guides were great but there was no getting around if you dont want to leak you have to be strapped uncomfortablely tight around the neck and wrists. My suit was a size bigger than me so I had a harder time controlling floating were it wanted to take me , but I always felt safe, no large currents. I had to flip on my back multiple times to avoid lip-freeze. The water was clear, except Divers were in front of us and they disturbed the growth on the rocks. I mostly wanted to see it through to the end because I didnt want to bail. Our guides had great personalities for this job. I enjoyed their energy. The cost, and experience was Odd...
MEREDITH_C, Aug 2023
Crystal clear water and amazing views, even without my glasses! You are not rushed to get to the end, plenty of time for all of it. Highly recommend!
Isabelle_A, Jul 2023
We came as a family of 4. I was a little anxious with the tight suit ans the cold water and JANE was so calm and reassuring that I finaly did it and we had an amazing time! I certainly recommand it!
Thanks again!
William_L, Jul 2023
Swimming was cool. Adventure was more about suiting up and figuring out how to function in it. Not cold at all.
Nicola_T, Jun 2023
First time in a dry suit. What an experience. The tea were so professional and ensured our suits did not leak, very important when the water was only 2c. They took every precaution to ensure our safety and we all enjoyed the experience. at some parts we had 100m visibility underwater and it was really different snorkelling in a suit is very cold freshwater. We were also in the Silfra fissure between 2 continental plates. Thouroughly recommended as a must do activity.
Derrek_C, Jun 2023
The guides were excellent. The views were great. This is something you have to do! The water was cold but you don’t really notice it.
Anthony_M, May 2023
The water was amazingly clear, and it wasn’t nearly as cold as I thought it would be with all the equipment. I highly recommend it
Christine_L, May 2023
The excursion was easy to book, easy to find, and the guides were incredible! They prepared you for your snorkeling excursion and helped you along the way! Would highly recommend!
Simon_A, Mar 2023
Booked wetsuit by accident and the team were kind enough to change us to drysuits. Getting ready for the dive, everyone was anticipating that the water would be colder than getting suited up. Water was actually warmer and the really cold part was getting out of the water and changing out of the drysuit. Not a drop of water came into the drysuit, so thanks to Bjarni, Doris and Gretar for keeping us dry.
All-in-all an amazing experience that we would warmly (no pun intended) recommend to anyone looking for a breathtaking experience.
