This was a once in a lifetime experience for me and my family. The water had shades of blue I don’t typically see underwater and the clarity of the water was amazing. Luis and Maria were excellent guides! They made our trip informative and fun. They also offer wetsuits for those that are daring. If I did this again, I would have picked the dry suit (my error).

Not what I expected

Genevieve_W, Aug 2026
Our guide Kaya was the best part of the experience for me. She was very caring and helpful as she got us into our dry suits. Then she kept us entertained as we waited our turn to enter the water. It was really pleasant to make her acquaintance! I will say that wearing a dry suit is uncomfortable and not for the claustrophobic. Also you will probably still be quite cold in the water. The view under water is interesting but for me wasn’t worth everything else. There are also age and medical restrictions that might keep you from participating and these rules are not available unless you visit Viking Adventures website directly or once you show up in person. They are not disclosed on sign up or in the email communications. One of our family could not go due to this and Viking adventures would not refund her ticket.

Don’t expect pictures which is unfortunate- they lost ours! Book with a different company and make sure they a have a SD card in camera!

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry that the photos from your tour were lost due to an unforeseen camera or SD card malfunction. We fully understand how disappointing this is, especially after such a unique experience. We would, however, like to clarify that the issue was not caused by the camera operating without an SD card. GoPro cameras immediately indicate when no SD card is inserted and do not allow photos to be taken in that situation. Unfortunately, in this case, a technical failure occurred that resulted in the images becoming unavailable. As communicated to you by email before this review was posted, we made every effort to recover the photos, including using specialized recovery software and other recovery methods. Despite our best efforts, we were unable to retrieve the files. We then sincerely apologized and provided compensation in accordance with our published terms and conditions. While we completely understand your disappointment regarding the lost photographs, we do not feel that this isolated technical issue accurately reflects the overall tour experience that was provided. The snorkeling tour itself was delivered in full, and we hope that your time exploring Silfra with our team was nevertheless a memorable part of your visit to Iceland. Once again, we apologize for this unfortunate situation and wish you all the best. Kind regards, The Adventure Vikings Team

Snorkeling between 2 tectonic plates - something normal people never get to do.

LUCY_S, Jun 2026
Snorkeling between 2 tectonic plates is not something that the normal person can do. Usually snorkeling consists of a warm water island and seeing a lot of fish. Snorkeling in Iceland was very different. We had "dry" suits that kept us afloat and kept us dry. Doris, our guide, was excellent. She told us what to look at underwater and took many photos of my family and I with the GoPro she had. The water was cold, but it was crystal clear. You could see down to the bottom no matter how deep it was. The amount of time you actually stay in the water was about 30-40 minutes. It seems like a long time in cold water, but it passed very quickly. Even if you do not snorkel, you will be able to do this tour. Especially since the suit keeps you afloat. If you are going to visit Iceland, book this tour. The people are great, especially Doris.

Excellent time snorkeling!!!

Rebecca_T, Mar 2026
Our guide Dory was phenomenal. She was very knowledgeable about the area and was a great help with suiting up. She made sure all of us got pictures in multiple areas and redirected us when help was needed. The only complaint was that the wind and rain were cold, but only when walking to and from the area. Once in the water, it had very little effect.

Awesome experience for a girls trip. Staff is friendly and ensure safety is important! Shout out to Piotr for saving my friend’s life - she started panicking with the mask on and he saw her right away, grabbed her and helped her calm down and breath properly with the mask on. Highly recommend ! Fun group of operators.

The Silfra dry suit snorkeling experience was incredible! Our guide was amazing—super knowledgeable, friendly, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe. The water was freezing, but totally worth it for the chance to swim right between the tectonic plates. The visibility was unbelievable, and our guide took lots of great pictures for us to remember it by. Such a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience

awesome, once in a lifetime experience! i really liked the group staying small - there were only 4 of us total - working with 1 guide. there were other groups with other guides. they do a lot to prepare you, teach you a bit of the background and you spend a long time getting dressed. if going during peak season, i would go early as the guide told us sometimes you have to wait for an hour at the entry point in line before being able to enter the water. the guide taking gopro pics was a fun addition. it is VERY cold, but only your head and hands get wet. everything else stayed completely dry!

Fantastic Snorkeling in Iceland

Oliwia_M, Aug 2025
Fantastic experience with awesome dive master from Turkey looking like real Viking. First time in a dry suit and that made the snorkeling in a icy cold water enjoyable.

Wonderful Experience

Missy_T, Jun 2025
We had a wonderful time snorkeling. Our guide, Alex was wonderful. Beautiful views and great safety instructions. Alex kept checking on every to make sure everyone was ok and enjoying the experience.

Beautiful experience even though you get wet!

Jennifer_H, Apr 2025
Great experience led by Arnold! He was patient and considerate of the needs of our group. Beautiful site and wonderful photos. Just know beforehand that you will get wet. Your hands will definitely be wet and cold, perhaps your head too. My suit leaked a bit from the back when I turned over, but as long as I stayed face down, I was fine. It was worth being a bit uncomfortable, IMO

Avoid This Tour Company – Unsafe Equipment & Poor Customer Service

ElvinJamalli_N, Feb 2025
Our Silfra snorkeling experience with this company was a disaster. My drysuit was faulty, leaking liters of freezing water from the back zipper, making it unsafe to continue in winter conditions. The guide confirmed it was dangerous but offered no immediate solution or replacement. My partner, who booked with me, had to leave as well—yet the company later claimed she "could have stayed" and refused a full refund. Despite the guide acknowledging the issue and promising a refund, we were only given 50% back. Their handling was unprofessional, unsafe, and unfair. Poor equipment, bad customer service, and false promises—avoid this company and book elsewhere!

Response from Host, Mar 2025

Dear Elvin, We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. At Adventure Vikings, safety and customer experience are our top priorities, and we always strive to provide the best possible service. We want to clarify that all our equipment is thoroughly inspected, pressure-tested, and maintained to meet all safety standards. While drysuits are designed to keep participants dry, we inform all guests during our pre-snorkeling briefing that minor leaks can sometimes occur, as no drysuit is 100% guaranteed to stay completely dry. Our suits are made of high-quality compressed neoprene, specifically designed for cold-water conditions. As soon as our guide became aware of the leak in your drysuit, they immediately assisted you out of the water to ensure your safety. At that point, your partner chose to exit the tour as well, even though her drysuit was confirmed to be functioning correctly. We also offered you a spot on a later tour the same day, which you declined. Regarding the refund, our guides do not have the authority to make refund decisions. However, when you reached out to our office, we promptly issued a full refund for your ticket or a 50% refund for your two-person booking. As per our policy, and as stated in the liability waiver all guests sign before the tour, we do not provide refunds once the tour begins if a guest voluntarily decides not to participate. It is extremely rare for our equipment to malfunction, and on this particular tour, we had 14 other satisfied snorkelers who completed the experience without any issues. We understand that this situation was frustrating for you, but we want to reassure future guests that we operate with professionalism, adhere to strict safety regulations, and have thousands of positive reviews from happy customers. We appreciate your feedback and are always looking for ways to improve. Regards, The Adventure Vikings team

Great experience, poor company

Peter_P, Jan 2025
I would recommend the experience, not with this company.. completely unorganised, two people had to withdraw due to the group being left out in-16 conditions for over an hour slowly getting equipment dispersed. Other companies nearby seemed to be much more organised with the correct sized equipment for their clients.

Response from Host, Jan 2025

Hello Peter We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed Silfra. I would have very much appreciated the chance of reading about what part of our operation is unorganized. Our operation in fact is quite well organized and on daily basis goes as following: When our guests arrive on location they are checked in and given the chance to use the restrooms. They are introduced to their guides and asked to sign the needed waivers. Guests are then welcomed inside our heated changing room van where they change into their own undergarments and our provided thermal overalls. Guests are then handed their drysuits outdoor where the suits are put on as they are quite big and bulky. Our guides then help each and every guest don the suit correctly. Guests are then provided with gloves. Guides then brief each group on Silfra, safety and snorkelling in general. The briefing normally takes 10-15 minutes. Guests are then provided with neck-collar to securely water seal the neck-collar, wrist collars and/or ankle collars if needed and then handed hoodies. Hoodies are not put on until after the briefing to ensure all guest hear well during the briefing as the hoodies cover ears. Our guides help our guests adjust hoodies and gloves and then hand them masks, snorkels and fins. Each guide and group of 6 snorkelers then walk to the entry point, a 2 minute walk. There guides rinse out each guests mask with anti-fog liquid and help the guests put their masks and then fins on. Once in the water the guide is always in the front to have an oversight of his group of 6 snorkelers. As mentioned in the prior briefing guests are always welcome to call for help if needed. 35-40 minutes are spent in the water. Once out of the water each group of 6 snorkelers and their guide walk back a 5 minute walk to the changing area. Once there our guides help each and every guest remove first gloves and hoodies. A large bucket of luke-warm water is kept there during the coldest winter days for guests to quickly warm their hands up. Guides then help guests remove straps and help each and every guest correctly removing the suits. Guests are then welcomed back into our heated changing room van. At the end of the tour guests are served cups of hot chocolate and explained how the included photos can be reached. There is a minor difference in organisation for the wetsuits experience. Then there is also our safety protocols that is always in place but would make this review respond much longer. The Silfra area is situated in a national park and a UNESCO heritage site. That means that us and all other operators at Silfra are only allowed our vehicles which are driven out and back from Reykjavik every day. No other facilities are allowed in the national park. We do operate our tours during wintertime and in our tour description we always recommend guests to dress according to weather. Currently we are one of 7 operators at Silfra and all the operators operate more or less in the exact same way as us. It is very hard to say that other companies nearby are more organised when you do not have any first hand experience of these other companies organisation. Regards, The Adventure Vikings Team

Frozen - good movie

It is an experience unlike any other! Unique is a word that is used too frequently and without qualification - this is unique And Anil had unfailing enthusiasm !

A great, albeit rushed experience

Passion_F, Dec 2024
Snorkeling between tech tonic plates in 30 degree water sounds crazy, but this tour offers the opportunity to do it and it is a once in a lifetime kind of experience. The swim was surprisingly a lot more challenging than I anticipated, but the views underwater made the difficulty worth it. One thing to note is that the tour is busy at all times of day. Therefore the experience becomes a bit rushed since they try to accommodate several groups in a single day. We were barely in the water 35 mins before we were being rushed to hurry back.

Unique and cold

Carolina_V, Nov 2024
It is a unique experience but not to do around winter due to the weather. To get ready you will be outside for more than 30 minutes with limited layers of clothes, freezing. The time in the water is very limited. Our tour guide, Wilmar, was amazing!!!

This was so fun! The suit makes it very difficult to move and you will get cold. This is a unique experience you can brag to friends about. Edgar did a great job making sure our group was safe and took plenty of great photos of us to keep as memories for the future.

Amazing experience

Zippy_G, Oct 2024
Amazing experience! Our guide, Nando, was fantastic, as was the whole team who looked after us brilliantly. The water is so clear and calming and the location is just beautiful. I wore a thermal base layer and leggings under the dry suit and it honestly didn’t feel nearly as cold as I imagined… the whole experience was just incredible and getting the photos included is a real added bonus. Loved it!

Once in a lifetime experience
