What To Expect
Riding an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) is the perfect way to explore the remote, rugged landscape surrounding Reykjavik—much of it inaccessible by car or coach. Your half-day adventure begins with pickup at your Reykjavik hotel and a short drive to base camp.
Meet your experienced guides and gear up with a helmet, gloves, and thermal overalls to stay warm throughout the open-air adventure. You can choose to ride solo in your own vehicle or double up with a friend or family member on a dual-passenger ATV.
Drivers get an overview of operating the vehicle and time to practice before the convoy sets off into the wintry landscape. Cruise along paved roads at first as you head along the outskirts of the city toward beautiful Lake Hafravatn. Admire the glassy surface surrounded by pastures and snow-capped peaks, and then venture deeper into the remote landscape on gravel paths. Feel the full power of your ATV as you cruise up to the summit of Reykjavik Peak, where you can take in spectacular views of Reykjavik and neighboring ranges.
Continue riding up steep mountain tracks and often-icy terrain to the second of the twin peaks, Lava Fields Mountain. The summit here offers even more dramatic views of the otherworldly Icelandic countryside and attractions such as Mt. Esja and the Blue Mountain range.
After your trip, shed your gear and hop back in the transfer vehicle for the return trip to your Reykjavik hotel.

Absolutely one of the best quad trips I have done. Safe but also much fun! Riding through the amazing landscape is unforgettable.
Our guides were wonderful and they answered all of our questions and were very accommodating!! We did the mountain tour and it was great, it raining but that didn’t put a damper on the fun!! Highly recommend!!

Beautiful! The route had so many amazing views of Iceland’s landscape. The overalls and gloves provided kept us very warm. Check the face shield on your helmet to make sure it isn’t scratched too much. Highly recommend this tour!
Talk about NERVES! I enjoyed this more than expected. Most women rode with their spouses but I wanted my own experience and GOT it! After telling our guide I had never done anything like this, he said stay close to me so I went first and got a great education and experience to boot. Thank you!
An amazing experience on the ATVs in a small group. Exciting terrain, fantastic views and an excellent guide in Mario. Highly recommend this. Our family of 5 had an enjoyable time. There was a safety video and then we were assisted with our full waterproof jump suit, gloves, headgear and helmet. The collection was very smooth as was the drop off at the end of the day.
This tour was fun. I would recommend getting your own ATV. It’s very bumpy and was a challenge sitting on the back as a passenger. Although great views and Daria our tour guide was amazing, get your own ATV you won’t regret it.

This was by far the best operation we’ve been with. Their office/ warehouse was spotless, the bathrooms immaculately clean, as was the clothing, balaclavas etc. the tour itself was great - fantastic scenery, great equipment. And well guided. Hannah was our guide, and was amazing!!
This was so much fun. The young girl who took our group out was so patient and friendly. This was not "a Sunday drive," it was an exciting ride that was never boring.
Our atv trail guides were fantastic. We got some amazing views of the city and they were flexible about storing luggage so we could make our flight. We are ready to go again!

It is amazing! Best excursion in Iceland! Patrick was the best tour guide and the trails and view are out of this world. They provide ALL the gear (just wear shoes that can get wet/dirty) and pictures can’t do it justice (but definitely charge your camera/phone anyway). We had ridden before and yet still no dull or slow moments; newbies in the group did just fine too! Coffee is provided but no food, so grab a snack in town before pickup and use the bathroom in their shop before you hit the trail. Take the tour… just do it and you won’t be sorry! Unanimous in our family, that this was the highlight of our trip!
Not worth it. The staff seemed low-energy and disengaged, and the ride itself was not particularly scenic. We made only two extremely quick stops for photos, so there was very little opportunity to actually enjoy the surroundings.
I also had a strange and frustrating interaction with one of the guides. At the beginning of the tour, she specifically instructed us to leave enough distance between ATVs so that if the person in front stopped suddenly, we would have enough time to react and not rear-end them. I followed that instruction, but then was criticized for doing exactly that. She told me I looked uncomfortable driving and asked if I wanted to ride as a passenger. I said no and asked what I was doing wrong, but she didn’t actually give me an answer or explain what she wanted me to do differently.
The group then took off with almost no distance between the ATVs, which seemed to directly contradict the safety instructions we had just been given. I was then paired with another guide who had very little energy and seemed like he was simply going through the motions.
My biggest concern was safety. If one ATV had stopped suddenly for any reason while everyone was riding so closely together, there seemed to be a real risk of multiple ATVs rear-ending one another.
If you’re looking for a scenic ATV experience with time to take in Iceland’s landscape, I would not recommend this tour. If your main priority is simply going fast over rocks, you may enjoy it more, but I personally didn’t think the experience was worth it.

If I could give Safari Quads a ten rating I would. They were the best! We enjoyed meeting all the guides. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Beyond satisfied with this group and met some great travelers.
Must do activity. We definitely recommend this to anybody. Pickup in the city was convenient, equipment looked in good condition and safe, warm protective gear was provided, the tour itself was super fun with great views of the Icelandic landscape.

We had great views of the mountains. Also we met a goat! It was very bumpy because my husband drove but so much fun.
The views were amazing, weather perfect, and the terrain rough. Sadly we crashed due to a rock on the trail. We hit it hard lost control and flipped into the ditch. But the guides jumped into action and came to our rescue. They handled it with amazing professionalism and kindness making sure we were okay. They let us continue on the trail riding with them. If you’re in Iceland this tour is totally worth it. A few bumps and bruises but great memories as well. We still had loads of fun.

This was the BEST tour ever. Our guide was so sweet. I was very hesitant as this was my first time driving an ATV. The guide talked me through it and I was able to feel confident enough for the whole ride. The views were stunning and our guide gave us a lot of information about the area. Our guide even stopped for us to pet the horses. I couldn’t recommend this tour enough, my favorite activity on my trip.
Fabulous adventure. It was my first time on a quad, but my partner is very experienced. We both had a blast! The guide. Veronica, was very professional and took us on a 2 hour excursion that included some world-class scenery, as well as fun! It was well worth the cost.
This was the best tour of our entire Iceland trip, riding up into the highlands on an ATV, with the wind, the air, and those views — there are no words. We genuinely wanted to pause and stay in those moments.
But Weronika, our tour guide, was the icing on the cake. She was a ball of positive energy from start to finish — warm, happy, and genuinely delightful to be around. She kept everyone safe, explained everything clearly, checked in on the whole group throughout the ride, and was always happy to take our photos and answer any questions. She made an already incredible experience even better.
