What To Expect
After a pickup at your Reykjavik hotel, watch the signs of civilization recede into the lunar-like landscape on the short drive to base camp. Meet your guide and prepare for the adventure with a protective helmet, ski mask, gloves, and warm overalls. If you opted for a 2-seater quad bike, decide who takes the wheel. Solo rides are also possible. No experience is necessary as all drivers get an orientation to the bike’s controls and take a practice spin around a safe area to get comfortable.
Once ready, set off with your guide in a convoy, first along paved roads that wind through the open grasslands surrounding the city outskirts. Turn off onto gravel tracks and make your way to the shores of Lake Hafravatn, where you can admire the glassy surface framed by snow-capped peaks in the distance.
Feel the true power of your bike’s off-road capabilities as you climb the rocky slopes of Reykjavik Peak. From the summit, enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the capital below, surrounded by sweeping stretches of grassland and icy ranges. Get an adrenaline rush as you cruise down the mountain tracks and back to base camp.
Relax in the transfer vehicle on the drive back to your Reykjavik hotel, where your tour concludes.

From start to finish it was amazing!
They picked us up & dropped us off at our hotel. All equipment was in great shape. The scenery is just breathtaking. If you're considering it, do it. For me it was a once in a lifetime experience & truly spectacular

Great fun! Only downside was I wished it were longer ;) The guide was good fun, he even took photos for us! It was well organized, well maintained ATVs and other equipment, with very thoughtful details for example the heated handlebars.

These are big ATVs, so we rode double. The back seat was super comfortable. Our van driver was Sir Kaktuz and he was so funny. Our lead was Artur and he didn’t have us repeat any of our trails, so it was new and exciting till the end

We had a great time on the two hour ATV excursion. Guides explain things well before you get started and appreciate that the company supplies warm jumpsuits, gloves, face masks and helmets. Driving through areas with the purple lupines in June was beautiful.

You could tell they love sharing this adventure with others, and that energy made the entire tour even more enjoyable.
Before we set off, they took the time to make sure everyone felt safe and confident, giving a thorough but easy-to-understand briefing. It didn’t matter if you were a beginner or had previous experience—the guides made sure everyone felt comfortable.
The ride itself was an absolute thrill! We got to explore some of the most beautiful landscapes, with a perfect balance of exciting terrain and jaw-dropping views. It was the kind of experience that makes you feel alive. To top it all off, they surprised us with an extra free hour on the tour, which was such an unexpected and generous gesture—it gave us even more time to soak in the scenery and enjoy the adventure.
Pick-up and drop-off were super smooth and accessible to anyone staying in Reykjavik, which made the whole day stress-free.
I’d recommend this to absolutely anyone visiting Reykjavik—whether you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, stunning nature, or just a really fun and memorable way to spend your day. This was easily one of the biggest highlights of our trip!

ATVs are really fun, and the person who guided us was very thoughtful and interesting. But I didn’t realize that riding one would make my arms so tired! I’d recommend people who don’t usually ride motorcycles to try another vehicle that’s more like a car.

The Safari Quads Team will provide all the necessary gear. Bring wet pants and a wet jacket in case of wet conditions. Listen to the tour guide when they tell you to bundle up, we don’t regret doing so, they were right. In case of wet conditions do bring something to cover your shoes unless they’re waterproof.
Be conscious and mindful, the tour guy can only go as fast as the slowest person. You may want to call and consult about this. In our case, we were lucky because the other ATV couple were going just as fast as we were, which was pretty much as fast as the ATVs could go. In this case, we were able to have a long, exciting fast and full of joy though safe tour. The tour guy would wait for us in dangerous intersections and would be careful to warn us.

This was the best fun. My 15yr old son really enjoyed it even though he wasn’t allowed to drive the quad as you had to have a driving licence. We went off road, through rivers and ice and mud. Great craic

An amazing experience!! Sir Cactus is a great guide. Very friendly and funny. He took very good care of us. I had never driven an ATV before, but the instructions and pacing were simple and clear. The whole operation and process was smooth, professional and enjoyable. The ATV ride itself was amazing and scenic. We got a nice view of the frozen landscape at peak sunrise on top of a hill. I would highly recommend this activity!!

Our experience was incredible—10/10! Paula, our tour guide, was amazing. She was so kind, made us feel comfortable, and even took tons of great photos for us.
I decided to embrace my “passenger princess” role and rode in the back the whole time (though there were plenty of chances to switch drivers if you wanted!). It was such a fun ride following Paula and another pair of riders through all kinds of terrain—uphill, downhill, bumpy trails, and even roundabouts.
The heated handlebars for the driver were a great touch, but as a passenger, I got a little cold toward the end. I’d recommend bringing hand warmers if you’re going during cooler weather.
Overall, it was such a unique way to see Reykjavík’s beautiful landscapes. Don’t hesitate—just book it!

Absolutely brilliant tour. We were picked up by Marianne who was so lovely and jolly. We were taken on the tour by Paula who was amazing and we had so much fun. It was snowing on and off during the tour and the snowy scenery was amazing. The suits they provide were really warm and cosy. Would love to do this again if we were staying longer. Fab day had by us.

Views were incredible but only 1 quick stop for pics at top of mountain and we were rushed through the whole thing. Was a real off-roading trip but easy enough for beginners. Instructor Michael seemed like he didn’t want to be there and was not friendly or conversational, unlike other guides. Everything seemed rushed and like it was a bother. This was a good way to fit something in before an afternoon flight (left hotel 9, back 11:45) but I would do the 2 hr if doing again and hope for a more fun instructor.

We had an awesome time on the ATVs on Friday. They picked us up at a bus stop and took us to the base camp. Where they gave us snow suit, gloves, head covering to keep head and neck warm, and a helmet. Our guide was super helpful and taught all safety measures and how to operate ATV. I would recommend having snow boots and lots of layers to stay warm. I wore 2 coats under the snow suit and wasn’t cold at all and it was super windy and had a feels like 5° outside! I would absolutely do this trip again.

It was just enough! We had an hour ride up and back with a beautiful view to stop and take in for a few minutes. They have everything you need! Super easy to ride! Guides were great.
