We had a great time on this tour and our guide Lauren was fantastic! It had a mix of history, art, and of course, cats! The cafe stop partway through was a fun break and the donut was delicious. Highly recommend for any cat people and/or people looking to get a feel for the city!

Robin was a fantastic guide - super knowledgeable about the city and where to find the kitties! A fun way to learn about Reykjavik and to help with cat withdrawal caused by being away from home.

Jess was a wonderful tour guide with great stories! We learned a lot about the city, the community, and of course, the cats! Great short walking tour of downtown Reykjavik with lovely stops at local shops. Highly recommend!

Cool cats in Reykjavik

Jennifer_L, Sep 2026
Lauren is an amazing guide with a wealth of knowledge.. which includes the cats around Reykjavik!!! We booked the tour for the day we arrived in town and it was a perfect way to see the town and meet some cool cats. She knows where they hang out and if they’re not in their regular space, she knew we’d eventually run into them. Great tour… thank you!!!

Fun and quirky way to see Reykjavik!

MARIAN_B, Aug 2026
Stefan was a wonderful guide!!! We saw lots of cats as well as had a good history of the city. But the cats are the draw for any cat lover! The pastry shop at the end was so welcome as well. Highly recommend this tour and tour guide!

It was a fun tour of the cats of reykjavik and nice to appreciate all of the Internet famous cats and neighborhood cats of reykjavik. Lauren our guide was interesting and funny and made the walk a fun experience for our family.

Document your arrival

JohnC_F, Aug 2026
We arrived early at the meeting point listed on the Viator confirmation, but the guide never appeared. I had to contact Viator myself, and the provider only offered times later in the day that didn’t fit our schedule. The burden was on me to provide time‑stamped, geolocated proof that we were present before Viator issued a refund. It was a stressful experience, and travelers should be aware they may need to document their arrival if something goes wrong.

Fun and unique local city tour

Rochell_C, Aug 2026
Neat and unique experience in the city of Reykjavik. Our guide was fun and had some fun stories and history of the town as well as finding the local cats to see and pet.

Great for cat lovers and those interested in history too!

Bruce_M, Aug 2026
We both love cats and this tour was excellent. Not only did our guide know what shops the local cats hung out in, but he told us a lot about the history of Reykjavik and mythology too. We got to meet and pet lots of cats. At the end of the tour he brought us to his yard and brought out his cats for us to meet. It was a wonderful experience overall and We highly recommend it!

Johanna was great! Not as many cats out but fun to walk around and learn some of the history of cats in Reykjavik

Cat People—You need this!

Elizabeth_A, Jul 2026
Superb fun way to learn some Reykjavik history and folklore, with a fabulous feline focus. Guide Kristin was engaging, knowledgeable, and even mindful and respectful of a slower walking pace for one of the tour participants. She gave us a wonderful local family perspective, and suggestions of museums and other places to walk. Cat people, this is what you need. We saw a gorgeous shop cat, a neighborhood cat, and three sweet rescues at the Cat Cafe. You may see more. But it’s not the ‘number of cats you see,’ it’s the uniqueness of the activity. We had one day here prior to a cruise, and this was an excellent way to spend a couple hours.

Purrfect Tour!

Niny_A, Jul 2026
Getting to know the cats in the area was fun with some insights on the Icelandic peoples’ relationship with cats. Walking around looking for them and spotting them is such a delight. The tour is also peppered with some information of the city. We had quite a day meeting so many cats (it was a clear sunny day on July 3rd). Reykjavik is a city with surprises, didn’t realize that cats (they have owners and not strays) are free to roam about in town! If Istanbul is too far, Reykjavík is a great alternative to see them (wandering around or hanging around in shops!)

This tour is not just for cat lovers!

Shirley_R, Jul 2026
I was fortunate enough to be the only person in the group and Bardi gave me the grand tour! You don't have to be a cat lover to thoroughly enjoy this tour as Bardi gave a lot of history of Iceland along with some Saga stories and folklore. Bardi made not only the Cats of Reykjavik come alive but the entire city with tales of folklore and famous people. Meeting the cats and their shop owners was not only fun but really personalized the city. Watching other visitors react when they spotted a cat was also entertaining. These cats are celebrities in their own right (and all have Instagrams, some with as many as 78,000 worldwide followers!) Most impressive was watching Bardi assist a group of travelers who spoke Spanish and needed some information. Instead of directing them to call the company, as many people would, Bardi took it upon himself to seamlessly switch from English to Spanish and personally get the information the group wanted. He absolutely went above and beyond. You can tell he loves what he does and it shows. His tour is informative, humorous, entertaining and memorable. I highly recommend this tour and if you are really lucky, Bardi will be your tour guide.

We pet all the soft kitties

careen_c, Jun 2026
Stephan was a great guide to all the famous cats in Reykjavik. We toured all the hangout spots and got to see a lot of local businesses. Lots of fun. A unique experience. Highly recommend.

Great way to spend our first day in Reykjavik

Allison_V, Jun 2026
Stefan was the best! We learned so much about Iceland lore and we got to pet all the cats (every cat lover’s dream)! The cat cafe was adorable too—and yummy! Thank you Stefan and the cats of Reykjavik!

Great introduction to Reykjavík. The tour showed us some parts of town we otherwise wouldn’t have seen. The cat aspect got my (sometimes) jaded teenagers interested in exploring the city, and we all enjoyed meeting friendly shop cats. Stefan was an attentive guide who took his cues off of the group.

Robyn has been in Iceland...

Cathy_S, Jun 2026
Robyn has been in Iceland 24 years, so although not a native, she has a great breadth of knowledge about history and culture. Quirky tour of city center with cat sightings. Only 6 people total meant lots of questions insightfully answered! Would recommend this tour and guide!

Don’t miss this unique tour and peek into Reykjavik cat culture.

Christina_B, Jun 2026
This was my 3rd tour with “Your Friend in Reykjavík.” It was once again a wonderful tour experience. My guide Robyn was such a lovely person and it actually felt like hanging out for a couple hours with a friend. The cats we met were sweet and located in fun spots. The first 30 minutes or so, we did not see cats at some of their usual spots, but we saw several as the tour went on. This was another great tour with a wonderful company.

Stephan did a great job...

Rachel_F, Jun 2026
Stephan did a great job on the cat tour with tons of interesting facts, places to visit, and cats to see! Highly recommend!

Not what I expected

Christine_N, Jun 2026
I had assumed that the focus of the tour would be on how cats are related to Icelandic life and lore or something simialr, but mostly this was a walk around town and spotting of various neighborhoods cats.

The best tour of Reykjavík!

Elizabeth_C, Jun 2026
We had a wonderful time on our cat tour. Besides seeing quite a few cats, Inja taught us so much about the local history and customs. We ended the tour at a cat Café with coffee and a cookie! 10/10

Robyn was a fantastic guide! My 15 year old son and 20 year old daughter both said it was the best your they had been on anywhere. A great mix of cats and other stories about the city. Robyn took us to several sites and shops that we will return to. Thanks for a great introduction to your city!

Its all bout the Cats

Virginia_M, Jun 2026
This is a nice tour if you like cats. Unfortunately we did not get to see many but those we did were cute. The walk was very nice and the guide provided us with lots of information about the city, the cats and life in Iceland. The Cat Cafe is nice too.

Great tour.

Brad_B, Jun 2026
This was a wonderful walking tour of city center in Reykjavik. Robyn was a great guide. We saw Volvo, Baktus, and Ofelia.

Connect with the City in a Unique Way

Emily_D, Jun 2026
It’s a great tour if you love cats. Bardi, our guide, is enthusiastic with a special connection to cats and you will meet all of the cherished and interesting cats in the city. You will be able to experience Reykjavik in a unique way and you will feel very positive about how well cats are treated. Definitely do it!

Highlight of Beautiful Iceland

Marnie_M, May 2026
This was so much fun. Seeing the cats and hearing the history of Reykjavík was amazing. Our guide Inka (sp) was awesome. I would recommend this tour to all cat lovers. One of the highlights of the trip!

A sweet morning.

Amy_C, May 2026
This was such a lovely, lighthearted tour. What a wonderful way to take a walk with new friends and pet fluffy Icelanders :)

The Bosses of Reykjavik

Helaina_V, Mar 2026
Bardi was a wonderful guide! He seems to know every cat in Reykjavik and adds a very personal touch to the tour. We were enthralled with his knowledge and had such a wonderful time with him. All of the shops know him well and we were welcomed in to each one with a smile and an invitation to get to know the “boss” at each location. If you are interested in cats, love cats, and want to hear more about the lore and a little bit about Iceland, definitely do this tour.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Dear Helaina, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! 😻 We’re absolutely thrilled to hear how much you enjoyed your tour with Barði. His deep knowledge of Reykjavík’s cats, and the personal connections he has around the city, truly make the experience special. 🐾✨ It’s lovely to hear that you felt so warmly welcomed in each shop and got to meet some of the local “bosses” along the way! That sense of community (and feline charm!) is something we love sharing with our guests. 🏙️💛 We’re so glad you were enthralled by the mix of cat lore and Icelandic stories, and we truly appreciate your recommendation to fellow cat lovers. 😄 We hope to welcome you back for another purr-fect adventure in Reykjavík someday! ❄️ With gratitude and warm regards Steina Your Friend In Reykjavík & Team
