Itinerary
Hop aboard your City Sightseeing bus at any of the 16 stops around Reykjavik, and show your voucher to the driver. How long you stay on board the bus is up to you; your voucher is valid for 24 or 48 hours (depending on the option chosen), allowing you to hop on and off the bus wherever and whenever you like.
If you wish, stay on board for the full loop and admire landmarks like Harpa Concert Hall and Reykjavik City Hall from your double-decker bus. Or why not hop off at Laugardalur Valley to visit thermal pools and the spa? Other attractions that line the route include the National Gallery of Iceland and the Whales of Iceland exhibition—a treat for all the family.

The hop on hop off is a convenient and less expensive way to get around what is a sprawling and expensive place. Commentary was good, pick up times sometimes later than scheduled and sometimes two buses were there at a pick up point at the same time. Otherwise still the best way to get a sense of a city and then decide which attraction you want to visit
The tour is ok, but the bus is so uncomfortable and the earbuds with system kept changing languages and skipping.

Comfy seats and smooth audio should be a given, and we’re sorry yours kept jumping languages and cutting out, super annoying when you’re trying to catch the stories. Not the cozy Icelandic tour we want for you.

We love on/off bus tours and have done many in many locations. This one was a bit of a disappointment. We were not offered headsets or asked if we needed. Once we inquired, the language changed on the set channels as you listened, they cut out, we did not get much narration.

You should have been offered headsets straight away, without having to ask. And then for the channels to keep changing language and cutting out... We can imagine how annoying that is, you can’t follow the story of the city like that.
Thanks for flagging it, we’ve passed it to the crew to make sure headsets are handed out at boarding and to get that audio system checked.

The headset audio was messed up on this particular bus. Sometimes the audio was in German; sometimes it was an English; sometimes it was in French. We spent a good portion of our time trying to find the correct channel as the audio in English moved from channel 1 to channel 3 to channel 6. We also saw where the driver would not let people on the bus because no one got off the bus at certain stops. They don’t allow you to stand on these buses so if there are no seats available, no one can get on. This made us hesitate to get off at any stop because we weren’t certain that a bus would be available to pick us back up to go back to our starting point. When we told the driver about the faulty audio, he told us he would report it. The ride was about 1-1/2 hours round trip…

Hello, thank you for letting us know what happened and we're sorry for the issues on your tour.
The audio jumping between German, English and French and moving from channel 1 to 3 to 6 is not how it should be at all. Thank you for reporting it to the driver, we have now logged it with maintenance to check that bus and the headset system.
We also understand the hesitation to hop off when you saw the driver not letting people on because there were no seats left. As we can't allow standing on board, when a bus is full we can't board more people until someone gets off. We know that creates anxiety about getting back, and we're sorry you felt that way during your ride.
Thank you for taking the full 1.5 hour loop with us despite this.

Very disappointed in this trip. Bus driver drove by several stops without even stopping. When we stopped at the main bus station, driver got off and we sat for 29 minutes before another driver arrived. My suggestion would be take the whole loop without getting off and then decide what stops you want to get off at.

What you describe about the driver driving by several stops without stopping and the long 29-minute wait at the main bus station for a driver change is not acceptable. Stops should only be skipped if no one wants to get off or on, and driver changes should be quick and communicated to our guests.
We have shared your comments with our operations manager in Reykjavik to review what happened on that day and to make sure this doesn't happen again.
Your suggestion to take the whole loop without getting off first and then decide where to get off is actually a great tip for first-time visitors, thank you for sharing it with other travellers.

The driver did not even slow down at the famous church. We had to get off the next stop at the bottom of the hill and walk up then we pulled into the bus terminal and the driver told my husband his time was up left the bus running and we sat on the bus for 45 minutes, waiting for someone to come and take us back to the hotel. They then told us it was stop number one and it was actually stopped number five very very disappointed.

What you describe about the driver not slowing down at the famous church Hallgrímskirkja is not right. Our drivers are supposed to slow down and point out all the main sights so you can enjoy them and take photos, even if you don't get off.

Bought 2-day pass through Viator bus closed early and posted on website would be closed the next two days for a marathon. This was planned well in advance but Viator still sold us worthless passes. Not a local quick decision to shutdown Viator should have been aware and not sold a 2-day pass.

This has always been a first for us when we travel. Good way to get "feel for the land". Only problem is making a reservation for Perlan as there is no way to know what time you'll arrive. I notice when you get off there is still a bit of walking involved.

Reykjavik was a more hilly and spread out than we thought it would be so we utilized the HopOn-HopOff make our way around the city to the various sites we wanted to see. Buses were full but we always found seats as they were running enough buses to keep up with the demand. Most helpful thing to know, listen to the audio if you want to know when to get off as they don’t announce stops!

A good way to get an overview of the city. Two criticisms- the frequency of the buses is not great- we had to wait over 45 minutes between buses, conversely because it appeared there was only one bus running- the driver drove very fast and there was not much time to view the sights

For a hop on hop off bus, this bus was stuck at the BSI bus terminal for over 20 minutes without any warning or notice! We need to be back on the ship in a certain time and this was totally inappropriate.

Great way to get an overview of the city. Stops were well marked, buses were clean and headsets were provided for audio. The audio could have been more comprehensive but the route maps gave us most info that we wanted to determine our stops.

Stops although easy to find after you have taken the tour once, are not readily apparent.

Having used hop on buses in other cities, my expectations were high. The drivers were friendly and seemed competent. The recorded narrative was informative. However, the buses were 20 to 30 minutes apart and one went right past, so it's not as convenient as in some cities.

Do not purchase! Provider is not reliable. Busses run 50 to 60 minutes apart. Website clearly states busses run every 20 minutes. This is false advertising. Good only way if you want to hop on only.

Driver didn’t announce stops. You need to follow the map or audio closely to see where you want to get off. Also be ready to get up and move quickly towards the exits or driver just takes off. This is very different from what I’ve experienced on HOHO buses in other cities.
Now that some stops aren’t necessarily close to what you might want to see. Be ready to walk a bit.
Other than those two items, the HOHO is a good way to get an overview of parts of Reykjavik.

The hop on hop bus in Reykjavik is terrible. We boarded the bus at stop #1 Harpa Concert Hall. We then proceeded to stop #11 Perlan a glass dome exhibition of the wonders of Iceland. What a great experience here. We then went outside to proceed on our hop on hop tour. We waited for an hour for a bus that is supposed to be every 30 minutes. We then proceeded to stop #12 Kringlan shopping centre. We went inside for a little while and came out to wait for a bus, and wait we did. We waited for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Now we were getting closer to our ship departure time. We were just about to give up on the bus and get a taxi when a bus arrived but the driver said the bus was full and the next one was right behind him. The passengers from the second level said there are two seats up top so we got on the bus. We proceeded stop #15 Skarfabakki Harbour were us and most of the passengers got off and walked down the dock to our ship to make our departure time. Our ship was leaving for Greenland. What a poorly run business! How can you can have to wait almost 1 1/2 hours for a bus that is supposed to run every 30 minutes. The two days in Reykjavik almost ruined an otherwise great Iceland experience. I believe they should refund our money for the hop on hop tour. If they can’t run the business any better than this they should get another company to take over with some organizational skills.

Was going well until two buses broke down. Instead of finding substitute buses, they ran with reduced capacity. We nearly missed getting back on our ship.

Never got on it. Suppose to be a stop near motel but was not and then went to one of the stops and never showed up over 90min. Trying to get refund since service never rendered.
