Taylor’s Is a great port house to visit with a really lovely outdoor seating area.
Self guided tour worked well for us, informative and relaxed wandering around at leisure. We enjoyed the tasting and got a cheese board to match which was really tasty! Great value trip

Very interesting your and finishes in beautiful garden with lots of port tasting .
Worth the walk up the hill
We arrived at the time we had booked expecting a guided tour. Obviously this no longer happens. That wasn’t a problem as they gave us handsets to listen to the commentary. Unfortunately they also allow people to listen to the same audio on their phones. Again this shouldn’t be a problem but, various nationalities, mainly couples decided to share a phone and listen on speaker! This made it very difficult for us to listen and concentrate on all the information provided. Obviously not totally the fault of Taylors, and we mainly enjoyed visiting, especially the final tasting in a wonderful setting. We explained our concerns to reception after and they said that they would pass on our concerns.
They should either insist on ear plugs when using their own phones or provide handsets for everyone. Overall enjoyable but maybe some of the other Port tours are better?
Good fun and genuinely interesting, but why oh why the modern “ use your phone to listen” horrible and impersonal!! Great story spoilt.
Great tasting with a person ! Hurrah
Lovely settings!
Self guided was perfect, took the time on what we wanted to spend extra time on.
The tasting in the garden was an unexpected treat. The grounds are wonderful.
The tour is via a link on your phone which we didn’t use as would rather read the information and walk around taking in the surroundings.
The port tasting was great fun and you can order food to go with the ports very easily, sitting in the beautiful garden after walking around the port house was lovely.
Really enjoyed the tour, liked the fact it was self guided, nobody rushing you
Very well laid out, and signposted
Port tasting very good, waiter was knowledgeable, no hard sell
Liked the traditional approach
Self guided tour using an audio recording on your phone. A lot of history about the brand and how they make the wine. The you can taste 3 different wines at the end of the tour. Since it’s self guided, you can go as quickly or slowly as you want. Overall, it was a pretty good experience.
Very good tour apart from the downloaded app guide crashing intermittently. Beautiful gardens where we had the tasting and really friendly and informative staff
We had a fantastic time and really enjoyed the experience. Even the weather was perfect! We didn't know anything about port and it was all clearly explained and very interesting.
However, Taylor's were very busy and we were asked to listen to the audio tour on our phones, we weren't offered the alternative of a handset
( which I saw several of at the exit). My phone battery ran down very quickly so I had to abandon listening to the audio guide.
Wonderful educational experience - terrific self guided tour! I learned a ton about the family and the port making process!
It was lovely! We didn’t know it was an audio self guided tour, but we still really enjoyed the experienced and learned a lot. The tasting in the garden was the bet part. Great service and excellent port wine!
The experience at Taylor’s was exceptional. The walk around the distillery was very interesting and informative. The port tasting session at the end of the tour was set in beautiful gardens and was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Would highly recommend.
Lovely tour and tasting experience in beautiful surroundings, bit of a hike to get there but very relaxed rewarding experience.
Very informative but an exhausting hike to the lodge.Port tasting in beautiful shaded garden but could have included some nibbles or cheese.
We had a lovely experience, and would definitely recommend this to others. The self-paced tour took about an hour, and we spend another 30 minutes tasing the port in the lovely courtyard. The person who guided us through the tasting was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions.
Really interesting little self guided tour then a lovely port tasting after. Lovely venue and friendly staff. Would recommend to anyone looking for a port based experience.
We were not introduced to the experience politely and it took forever for the servers to finally come to us. It was very frustrating to not really understand the tour.
A very fun and enlightened tour of port wine and it's production. Somewhat interactive and of course the tasting patio and shop.
Great trip around the winery with a good mobile phone audio guide. It took 2 hours but very well worthwhile. Tasting at the end was lovely too in great surroundings
Very interesting to learn about port wine and how it is made. Tour was so fun! Port tasting was incredible.
The self-guided tour was informatícelo and thorough. The tasting was lovely! What a beautiful place!
Great tour and the Port tasting at the end was excellent. The staff were really helpfull and professional throughout.
Would definitely recommend this tour 👍👍
We enjoyed our tour. Very informative. Was nice to go at your own pace.
Bring earphones as you have audio on your phone.
It is video guided… must have charged phone and be technically proficient… staff not helpful. There is a video room in the process that really summarizes the high points. Lots of pics and memorabilia that tells the story of this lovely place. Tasting and patio lovely.

A self guided tour via guide on mobile. It was a little impersonal ….no human interaction until you reach tasting and that also was just poured and given! Slightly disappointed by lack of personal interaction.

Other than wine tasting tour was by audio file which did not work. Poor quality for the cost and not worthy of Taylors.

Self guided tour of the historic winery was detailed and informative. The main store for the barrels of aging port is very impressive and full of character. Tastings take place inside or outside in a lovely garden with partial view over the river. Only let down by rather slow service, but our waiter was polite and informed when he got to us. Overall a great visit to a famous winery.

good self guided tour, but the app malfunctioned many times on a persons phone, so it made the self-guided portion to the point we just turned it off. The highlight was the lovely garden at the end. They poured samples of 3 ports. Complete with a personnel. well educated person to explain each one. This made the very steep walk up the hill from the river worth while. So be ready for a very strenuous hike to get there. Or hire a cab.
Response from Host, May 2026
