Wow! What a lovely experience! This century-old winery was lovely. I've been on several wine tours and tastings, but I don't think I've ever had such an enthusiastic guide like Inez. She was absolutely lovely, and passionate about her job! I learned much about port, which I appreciated.

We hit terrible traffic on the way over and ended up being late. They were so gracious and didn’t make us feel bad about it. Really appreciated being able to run and catch up. The inf was interesting and the ports were delicious! I’m a convert now!!

Pocos- Small, Intimate, Memorable

Picks is a much smaller and more intimate port producer than other houses such as Cockburn’s. The tour provides details on how different ports are produced from the same grape using different techniques.

Pocas was just what we needed in a wine tour, very informative, small group and our guide was spot on and we had plenty of time to ask questions on the tour. We sampled 4 types of port at the end without being rushed at all and in a super setting. It’s a hidden gem and scale ( not too Massive) gave you a clear understanding of Port from a family winery.

We had no idea when we booked that there were different levels of tasting. Turns out that we had the “ basic” level. We were genuinely interested in the process of the production but it transpired all the others in the group had more tastings and when we asked why others got more tastings we were told that we had just the standard ticket. Very belittling and embarrassing. Also the cellars are a long way (1.5km uphill) among a lot of derelict buildings well out of where the other cellars are located. The guide while pleasant enough but had a very irritating presentation mantra trying to be funny when he wasn’t. Bottom line it was a waste of time and terrible value for money. Suggest if you are serious about wine and have a genuine desire to learn then do your research and go directly to one of the more established producers. Don’t waste your time going through tour companies.

For guests who wish to try more wines beyond what's included in their tasting, we always offer the option to order wines by the glass for an additional charge. As for the location, we understand that our cellar is a little off the main tourist route — but we believe part of its charm lies in being slightly more hidden and authentic. That said, getting here is quite simple: if you're coming from Porto city centre, it’s just a 10-minute train ride, and the station is very close to us. We’re also sorry that the style of the guide’s presentation wasn’t to your liking. We aim to strike a balance between informative and engaging, but we understand that not every approach suits every visitor. Your feedback is truly appreciated. While we regret that your visit didn’t reflect the quality we strive for, we hope you’ll continue exploring and enjoying the world of Port wine. Kind regards🍷

Little known, but well worth getting to know.

I was a little bit hesitant when booking this tour as Pocas is not the best known brand in the UK. In fact I had never heard of it! However, I need not have worried. Pocas are well established and produce some very fine port wines. Our guide on this tour was excellent and very happy to answer questions, I little disappointed that the tour consisted of only two parts. The first was the guide talking over a film of the production process, you don't actually get to see it in real life, and the second part just a walk around some of the barrels with an explanation of how and what was maturing. All this led up to the tasting and we had three different port wines to try. The first a white port, served chilled and a very tasty aperitif. Then a Ruby Port followed by an LBV. I absolutely recommend the Pocas 2020 LBV. Excellent. At the end of the tour there was no pressure to purchase and they were not in a hurry for us to leave. I would recommend this tour to any port fan. One word of warning, if you are walking there from the river front, Pocas is at the top of a very steep hill. It is quite an exhausting walk.

We had a truly wonderful experience at the Poças wine cellars in Porto. The tour was beautiful and fascinating, not only because of the impressive and charming cellars, but also because of the rich history behind this prestigious family-owned brand. It was inspiring to learn about their legacy and dedication to producing some of the finest and most genuine wines in Portugal. The explanations about the winemaking process were extremely interesting and gave us a deeper appreciation for why each variety of Port wine is unique. Seeing the old barrels dating back to the very first harvests added a special touch of authenticity to the visit. The wine tasting itself was simply outstanding. We were able to enjoy six different varieties of Port wine, each one with its own distinct character, paired with a delicious selection of cheeses and exquisite chocolates. By the end of this experience, we didn’t just taste Port wine—we learned to truly love it. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Porto!

Poças is a little bit out of the way but well worth the bus ride! Our guide was lovely and very knowledgeable on the entire process of making port. Wear comfortable footwear as you stand a lot during the tour. The tasting and gift shop is a perfect end to a great experience!

It is in Vila Nova de Gaia 3-4 minute walk from the train station. This a Portuguese own Port house which is unique since many of the “Big Names” are English owned.

A bit disappointing

We didn’t get to see much of the wine cellar, however we had to wear protective clothing during the whole explanation part. This clothing was synthetic and very hot and apparently it is reused so not at all hygienic. The tasting was ok but we only received five small crackers for four people which is not realy a snack.

You were inside our private bottling area within the cellar, which is not part of our standard tours. 🍷✨ This is a restricted area where, by law, everyone (including our guides and staff) must wear protective clothing and hair covers to prevent any wine contamination - it's a strict food safety requirement! The clothing is hung on hangers briefly for presentation purposes, but it's disposed of immediately after guests leave - it's single-use for hygiene reasons! Your smaller, more intimate setting was actually a more attentive and exclusive experience - literally inside the working cellar! 🎉 Regarding the crackers - we provide 2 per person when tasting 2 Ports. They're specifically for palate cleansing between wines, not meant as a snack. However, we do offer additional paid options like cheese selections, charcuterie, chocolates and other treats if you'd like to enhance your tasting experience! 🧀🍫✨ We hope you can appreciate this was a special access experience!

Ok I did not get to experience the Porto vine tasting. ‚. I’ve decided to pass on this experience and loose my money because the place is in such a area that as a solo traveller I just felt not safe. Nothing has happened but the street was very secluded and I empty. I wish it will be in the more public place.

Although it doesn't have the bustling tourist atmosphere of the city center, it is a perfectly safe and welcoming area—we just recommend that you arrive by public transport, taxi, or ride-sharing apps such as Uber for peace of mind. The cellar is a small one and quite a walk up the hill. However, once there, we were shown round by a knowledgeable guide. We were talked thrpugh the history, locations and process of the port wine manufacture. We then enjoyed tasting three examples and had the chance to buy a few bottles.
