This was the perfect way to enjoy a leisurely afternoon touring the scenic Douro Valley and its many wineries. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. Our winery hosts were truly inviting. The day ended with a relaxing river cruise. If you're looking for a way to experience the Douro Valley in one day, I would highly recommend.

We had a lovely day visiting the Duoro River valley in a small group with George as our guide (and van driver). George was informative and fun - and made sure one member of our group got a lot of birthday love.

Lovely Douro Valley tour!

This is a very pleasant tour. The tour starts with an hour and a half drive to the winery in a very nice car. Our hostess at the winery was very pleasant and gave us an interesting talk about how wine is made. We had light snacks with our wine tasting. Afterwards we cruised the river and then were transported back to our original meeting place in Porto. In total the tour lasted about 7 hours. Perfect!

A quick introduction to the Douro Valley

It is a minimum 1.5-2 hour drive to the Douro Valley area and back to Porto, so much of this tour is in the minivan. We saw one vineyard, which was lovely, and we tasted one white, one red, and white, tawny and ruby port but minimal snacks were provided (pack some for this outing). The boat ride was serene and it was good to see the terraced vineyards from the river point of view. I would suggest taking motion sickness medication as it can be twisty on some of the narrow, curvy roads.

Not what we were expecting 1) we had a driver not a guide - this was not a learning experience about Douro valley and wine production 2) winery appears to be chosen because of the relationship with the driver as opposed to an illustration of the quality of wine produced in Douro 3) No education provided on the boat ride just bad wine and peanuts 4) description of tour very misleading - there was no mention of 3 hour drive on motorway While the individuals hosting were all lovely people, we expected more from the tour in terms of education and quality. We did the 5 port tasting tour the night before this tour and it was excellent.

Our drivers are experienced tour guides amd experienced hosts who provide insights throughout the journey, as outlined in the tour description. Regarding the winery selection, we work with local producers to offer an authentic experience, and many guests appreciate the opportunity to visit smaller, family-run estates rather than only large commercial wineries. The duration of travel is also consistent with the geography of the Douro Valley, which is located a few hours from Porto. This is mentioned in the itinerary, as the region’s beauty is part of what makes the journey worthwhile. We’re glad you enjoyed your previous tasting experience, though it appears it was a different style of tour. We always encourage guests to review the tour details carefully to ensure it aligns with the type of experience they’re looking for. Excellent option if you want only half day in Douro Valley, tour departure in the afternoon was pretty convenient. We travelled with a baby and our guide Rui was always asking if we needed anything, made things a lot easier! Highly recommended
