Mario was an excellent tour guide! Very knowledgeable and professional. It was a hot day, but Mario made several stops on the way up to point out the landscape and provide some information. My family and I enjoyed the hike and the views. Highly recommend! Even better if you get Mario as your guide.

Our guide Mario was very friendly, accommodating & informative.
Its a steep but manageable walk to the top. Rests a scheduled so all fitness levels are catered to. The views are spectacular but not guaranteed due to cloud cover. Really enjoyed it.

Great tour with lots of information! Mario was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He made the trip a lot of fun. Vesuvius is definitely one of the best things we visited in the area - you must include this activity!!
The hike is physically demanding.
Our only complaint was meeting up at the start of the tour. Instructions said to look for a guide with a sign “Askos” outside Hortus restaurant. The Sign is a clipboard and it wasn’t being held up or visible since Mario was writing on it. Also, the group met outside the Pompei ruins entrance, which is across the road from where we were told to meet. No big deal and it all worked out. Askos were immediately in touch with us to check on our delay so it was all good in the end.

Unfortunately due to the weather and poor mountain conditions (rain, thunder) the tour was cancelled. The guide himself was very responsive to our questions and alerted Viator for me that it was cancelled. Waiting on refund

The Viator app was very misleading stating entrances were included, however we still had to wait in line to get a ticket into Pompeii. There was no skip the line access as advertised. Luisa our guide however was wonderful

It is a bit of a walk up hill. Wear sensible shoes as it is quite loose gravel. The Tour guide was excellent.

This was an incredible experience. Pictures here don’t even do the real views of the volcano, crater, or bay of Naples justice! Mario was an awesome guide, and he answered all of our questions with patience and made the experience very easy. He was also extremely knowledgeable, and we learned a ton about the history of the area and city. This was SO much easier than trying to coordinate travel to Vesuvius National Park on our own, and we highly recommend taking this excursion if you want to visit the volcano.

Mario,our guide rang us to make sure we knew where to meet which was great and very thoughtful of him.
He was very knowledgeable about Mount Vesuvius & other volcanoes in the region.His tour was extremely interesting and he had a great sense of humour.He kept a great eye on everyone as we ascended and descended.
I would definitely recommend this climbing experience to anyone.A bus collected us in Pompeii and brought us back promptly afterwards.It was lovely also that we had plenty of time to look around ourselves too..We

I don’t like giving a 1-star review, but there are two critical issues future travelers should be aware of.
First, the tour runs 3.5 hours, not the 3 hours listed. Ours ended at 5:30pm instead of 5:00pm. This was a big deal for us because we had a Pompeii tour scheduled at 5:00pm. We were lucky to still get into Pompeii before it closed at 5:30. And a sunset tour of Pompeii is fun because it’s completely empty in the evening.
Second, there was misinformation during the tour. The guide said twice that Pompeii was destroyed by lava flow, which is simply not true. A quick Google search will confirm it was destroyed by volcanic ash and pumice, not lava. This is a basic and important distinction, especially on a historical tour.
On the positive side, you get to hike to the top of Mount Vesuvius, and the volcanologist who met us there was very knowledgeable.
This tour likely deserves more than 1 star overall, but I’m leaving this rating for visibility, so others are aware of these two key concerns.

There are lots of cafe/restaurants near the meeting point for lunch immediately before the afternoon tour, for example.
Use the Google Maps view from the app as when I used the address it brought me much further up the road.
The walk is fairly steep but we saw people doing it in flip flops and fancy sandals. I felt their regret but they managed it!
There are tourist shops on the walk for cold drinks and souvenirs.
Our driver and guides, particularly Marco, were excellent.

We had a fantastic afternoon climb with Mario. He was a brilliant guide, informative, engaging & witty! The climb is fine as long as you have a moderate level of fitness. Wear trainers or walking shoes !

The trip up the mountain on the van is worth it alone. I couldn't imagine taking the public transit or a rental car up there. The hike is not a very fast pace, which allows you to stop along the way and get a lesson on the history of Vesuvius and volcanos in general. Mario was very personable as a guide and goes out of his way to teach you about volcanos, the history of Vesuvius, and the surrounding volcanos on the way up and down the mountain.

Mario our tour guide was amazing! He was very friendly, engaging, and did a good job of keeping us all together and on track. His knowledge of the history in the area is strong, and being a native of the area himself, you can tell he speaks with such passion and pride. My only regret was not carving out time to do the Pompeii tour afterward, note this is only for vesuvius.
Make bring your sunscreen, water, and use the bathroom at the base. There are gift shops but opportunities are limited once you get up there.

This tour requires 1.8 mile uphill climb.
Wear good walking/hiking shoes, and be somewhat fit.

I originally tried to visit Vesuvius on my own but struggled to find clear information about whether I could just turn up and get a ticket, after it was showing “sold out” on the official website. In the end I booked this tour and I’m glad I did. The experience was excellent. The meeting point was easy to find, and the young women coordinating multiple tours did an excellent job making themselves known and introducing us to the right guide. Mario was kind and informative, and we even had Luigi as our volcanologist, truly. Francesco, the driver, handled the tight, winding roads and oncoming buses with ease, which was a relief after a rather hairy taxi ride up there 20 years prior. We also had a nice size group, and Mario made sure no one was left behind.
I know I paid more than I would have if I’d gone solo, but it was well worth the extra cost just to avoid the stress and hassle of the logistics!!

Great, informative and fun tour up Vesuvius. We booked a tour as we couldn’t find tickets any other way, and I’m so glad we did - Mario our guide was informative and very engaging throughout, he used the bus journey to tell us about the eruptions and then brought it to life with a short session with a volcanologist at the crater. Nice size group, care taken to allow the small group to move up together, we all got to see and admire everything we wanted to, and had great explanations and discussion. Teens and parents all loved the visit. Thank you! Also thanks to Francisco our driver.

Good organised. Mario, our guide could answer all our curious questions. Always polite, with a good humour. Even if the Mount Vesuvius Tour is very, very touristic and very crowded. Our guide never lost his group and looked after each of us. Also the driver Giuseppe was driving safely, never loosing his nerves, never driving too fast. Safe tour. Well done.
