Start your day trip with a pickup from central Naples.
Once on the coach, travel inland, away from the coast to the ancient city of Pompeii. Famous as the city that lay buried beneath mounds of volcanic ash after the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, Pompeii today is one of Italy’s largest—and best preserved—complex of ruins.
See its highlights on a guided tour with a guide, and wander through the historic streets to see old Roman baths, villas, and forums.
Leave Pompeii after your tour, and head onward to Mt. Vesuvius, traveling to an altitude of 3,280 feet (1,000 meters). How you spend your time at the crater is up to you; a local mountain guide is on hand, should you want a guided tour at your own expense.
Later, return to Naples with your group, and finish with a drop-off at the start point.

Decided to have a 40th birthday adventure with my boyfriend, sister and brother in law. Our guide Roberta was amazing!! So friendly, knowledgeable.
Really enjoyed the day trip to Pompeii and Vesuvius. The guide was very nice, friendly, and everything was well organized and on time. Lunch was great too, especially the pizza! Pompeii was very busy, but that was expected. Overall, an excellent day trip and definitely worth doing.
Roberta was an outstanding guide. There was some free time. I would liked to have skipped lunch and gone on my own for the 45 minutes in Pompeii.
What an amazing value for a full day excursion tour!! Absolutely book this tour!
Our guide was Roberta (not Rebecca!). I can’t say enough about how fantastic of a tour guide she is! Roberta was experienced leading large groups with clear instruction and announcing technical information. Her occasional jokes are so funny too!!
In addition to leading the group, Roberta is incredibly knowledgeable of Pompeii both before the eruption of Vesuvius and after. Throughout the tour she shared information about the way of life in Pompeii, symbology, art, and architecture.
The coach bus driver was also friendly and managed the winding roads like a pro!
As a visitor from Canada with interest in Pompeii, I am so happy I booked this tour and that we got Roberta as a guide. Thank you!

It was very physically challenging but well worth it. Our guide was great! I learned a lot about Pompeii and the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.
Roberta was a fantastic guide! Her warmth and organisational skills made for an easy day. Her experience and passion as an archeologist was evident in the detail of her historical sharing about Pompeii and Mt Vesuvius and we would recommend her as a guide to anyone visiting the area.
Incredible day out with a very knowledgeable guide, beautiful scenery and an amazing view.
Take water and travel light as it was very hot
It was a lovely trip which started in a private air-conditioned mini bus. Our guide explained to us what the trip entailed and the itinerary which was helpful. On arrival at Pompeii, we were handed over to a tour guide (Mimi) who was absolutely fantastic. His English was immaculate and he was also very knowledgeable and he led the trip. He ensured we were okay, gave us information and also took questions. He was a brilliant tour guide and thoroughly enjoyed Pompeii. We returned to our meeting point for lunch which was not included and after we set off to Vesuvius. Our Tour guide explained where the bus would stop and expected to do the walk if able to the top of the crater and back down. It was a great experience and worth doing. After the tour, we returned to the bus and returned to our original start point in Naples.

We booked a combined day tour from Naples to see both sites. Our day started at Pompeii. Our guide Mimi was incredibly knowledgeable and brought the ruins to life with stories about daily Roman life, pointing out details like ancient graffiti and chariot grooves in the stone that we would have completely missed on our own. Seeing the plaster casts was a very sobering experience. After lunch, our tour bus took us up Mount Vesuvius. The hike up from the drop-off point to the crater took us about 25 minutes. It is definitely a steep climb on loose gravel, but taking short breaks to look out at the views made it manageable. Peering into the crater was surreal.
My Advice: Wear proper walking shoes! The ancient stones in Pompeii are uneven, and the climb up Vesuvius is steep and slippery.

Angela (tour guide) and Andrea (driver) were great. Very friendly, and very good at what they do. The trip is a lot of activity. There is a lot of walking and you cover a lot of ground, so stay hydrated and bring your walking shoes. We are pretty active and were tired at the end, but it was well worth it. Great way to see both Pompeii (which is much larger than I expected) and the amazing crater of Vesuvius with wonderful surrounding views. 10/10 would recommend.

It was very hot and our tour guide was doing her best to avoid other groups and lines. As a result of her trying to beat the crowds and most popular sights, the tour seemed a little rushed and disjointed. I did not feel like we got a great overview or storytelling of Pompeii itself. She allocated a full hour for lunch to allow us to cool off, even though I would’ve preferred to see some of the more popular sights. If we had a better storyteller guide, the experience would’ve been so much more impactful. I don’t know that she really contributed much to the Pompeii experience.
Mount Vesuvius was cool and we were left to our own devices to explore the volcano. The bus was comfortable and nicely air-conditioned.

Organisation of the tour is perfect. Guide, Roberta, is wonderful. Knows a lot and tells a lot, with humor
Make sure to come prepared if you go in summer. Great walking shoes, sunscreen, parasoll, lots of water and other things that can keep you cool in the sun.
As long as you come prepared it is a great tour. Very interesting to see Pompeii and learn about the history of the city!
Make sure you haven't skipped leg day for the walk up to the top of Vesuvius! But the views from there are amazing!

Very solid trip. We had Isabella (Isabelle?) as our guide and Vincenzo as a driver. The tour guide was very friendly and easy to understand. We originally booked this only because Vesuvius tickets were sold out for our date/time, but it turned out to be wonderful because it made the Pompeii experience much more informational. One note…the Vesuvius path is way, way longer than you’d think. It’s a good 45 minutes for adults at a moderate pace. With a kid, you’re over an hour. I wouldn’t recommend even trying if your kid is under 5 or doesn’t have crazy good walking stamina.
Only complaint is that it was ridiculously hot on the bus. They swapped it out and said the first bus didn’t have working AC, but the second bus was just as bad. I think it was just too hot outside for the AC to have a chance. Overall, I’d highly recommend this trip.

Roberta was a great guide. She is knowledgeable, engaging, and hilarious. We are very happy with the experience.
Our tour guide Angela contacted us the day before. The meeting point was easy to get to and the day was structured really well with plenty of breaks. The guide throughout pompei was excellent and witty, and at Vesuvius we were given plenty of time to get to the top and enjoy the view (needed with the heat).
I would recommend bringing runners as sandles were annoying to walk in with the terrain

Roberta tour guide was entertaining and informative! Driver, Vincenzo, is an AMAZING DRIVER! Kudos to the team!
Unlike my other experiences with Viator, this tour was mediocre at best. There was far too much waiting around and downtime on this tour. After the short drive to Pompeii from Naples, we had 25 minutes of wait time before our tour started. Our guide, Monica, was easy to understand, but she spent more time talking than actually showing us the various sights of the ruins. The two hours of tour time at Pompeii is too short. Again, after the tour, we had another 20 minutes of wait time before getting on the bus. The lunch break was over an hour with most of the fellow guests standing around at the end of the time. The hike to Mt. Vesuvius is challenging. The communication of where to meet after hiking by Angela, our bus guide, was not clear. This full day tour could easily be shortened with better management of time.
