The trip itself was good. Three places where you got to spend a couple of hours in each. All very pretty places. If you are a Montelbano fan then it’s great as at the first place, Scicli, you can pay to look around the police station, including montelbano’s office and Catarellas office etc. There is also the mayors office from the show in the same building. In Modica there was chocolate tasting. Otherwise you are pretty much left to your own devices to look around. The guide was lovely and informative as we were travelling on the bus.
The issue for me was a lack of information prior to the tour of how the day would work. Here is what you need to know:
Your Viator voucher has to be exchanged at the port front desk for actual tickets before going to the check in desk. The time on your ticket is the time that check in for the ferry closes (1 hour prior to sailing) so aim to be there before that. Your guide meets you in Sicily. Once you disembark, proceed off the boat and you will eventually get to the car park where there will probably be several buses waiting. One of them had a man stood with a sign indicating the tour and then you had to show your ferry ticket to the tour guide to get on the bus. The rest of the day was easy in terms of logistics and of course they drop you back in the same car park on your return journey. The catamaran was smooth and well appointed and you could get simple take away food from the cafes on board.
Overall it was lovely to spend the day in a part of Sicily we haven’t visited before. It was a lot calmer than northern Sicily.
