Overview
Hike through the spectral landscapes of the UNESCO-listed Queimadas Forest Park, Madeira, on an enriching 5-hour excursion from Funchal. Pickup is included for guests staying at the designated hotels. We advise you to be ready and waiting in the hotel reception area 10 minutes before your scheduled pickup time. Our guides will wait approximately 5 minutes for each guest. Look out for our vans, which can be either white (smaller) or grey (larger). We strive to ensure a smooth and timely start to your adventure, though external delays can occur. If that happens, you will be updated on the day. One day before the activity, we may adjust the pickup time for your convenience.

Our guide was very interesting pointing out various features along the way however we felt it was a bit of a route march back to the car park. No time to take photos or to rest and we were left behind. Good job we did not take a fall May I suggest that more time is given for the trip and an opportunity for some information on the walk back to break up the journey
There is however little changes in altitude on this walk and some nice views. Less challenging than the 25 Fountains walk which is more scenic

Normally, we complete this hike in around 5h30, which allows for a balance between progress and enjoyment, but we understand this can sometimes feel rushed depending on the group. We did PR1, PR3 and PR8, and this trail (PR9) was definitely worth still seeing.
Fantastic guide. Reuben was great and made the experience fun and memorable. We also greatly appreciated the airport drop off.

We were disappointed with some issues, though the tour guide was polite and helpful concerning the booking.
We were charged and paid for this walk in advance. However when picking us up from our hotel the guide said we had to pay him cash to take part for some sort of “tourist tax”. Why, as no other bookings we made have asked for this.
The other concern is that the general advice and warnings given in advance were eg to wear good footwear etc. However there was no information on your web site prior to booking that the walk involved moving through pitch dark tunnels. In years gone by on similar walks one was informed in advance and could take a torch with one. Indeed most organisers loaned a torch, but not on this booking. My partner and I decided we would start the walk but when arriving at the first tunnel told the guide we wouldn’t go further and turned back. The whole day was rather disappointing .

We would like to clarify that the 3€ entrance fee is a mandatory charge imposed by the local authorities for access to the trail, and it is clearly displayed in the product information on our TripAdvisor listing.
Additionally, the presence of tunnels along the walk is also mentioned in the tour description. We strive to provide accurate and complete details ahead of time so our guests can be fully prepared. When booking we picked a hotel pick up and received an email stating booking was confirmed and paid in full. This email also stated the pick up point was from our hotel. The ticket we received also stated the same, pick up point from our hotel.
Less than 24 hrs before the start of the trip we had booked I received an email stating we would be met at a pick up point 35 minute drive from our hotel. Upon receiving this I immediately messaged the company stating that we would not be in a position to go on the trip given the distance of the pick up point from our hotel and the fact that we had booked a pick from our hotel.
The company responded saying they would not refund the booking as we had not sent them a message in relation to the hotel pick up. Despite two confirmations having been received by us.
I explained that we received a confirmation email from them but they still refuse to acknowledge this.
The customer service and our customer experience was been extremely poor when dealing with Maderia Adventure Kingdom.
As we were not informed of the change of location within the 24hr cancellation period they have refused to refund us what we paid.

The mud and puddles and the strong winds that meant we couldn’t do half the walk - so no tunnels and we never made it to the Caldiera Verde. Probably sensible not to do this walk in the winter!
Our lovely informative guide saved the day, always ready to answer questions and remaining cheerful throughout.

Great walk with fantastic scenery. Relatively easy walk with majority flat, a couple of caves where you need to lower your head and some narrow walkways but the views are amazing. The guide shared lots of knowledge of the area, wildlife and plants

The guide picked us up from the hotel. On the way to destination he gave information about the island and places we passed unfortunately he was often difficult to hear from the back of the minibus if others were chatting.
On the walk he stopped to impart information about flora and fauna and the building of the lavada.
He kept a quick pace and much of the going was single file due to those coming the other way and the narrowness of the path sometimes having to walk on top of the lavada.
It was raining and cloudy when we set out so views were minimal unfortunately this was not taken in to account for the return leg were in sunshine we often wanted to stop and find those things pointed out on the way there or for us to experience the beauty and stillness of the area. Unfortunately again we seemed to be raced along to return. A stop for toilets & coffee on the return could have been given up for extra time to appreciate the area we walked through

Lovely walk, very enjoyable and the guide was friendly and welcoming. We appreciated that she kept safety on mind and gave little nuggets of interest along the way.
I would suggest that the level of difficulty is highlighted and what level of fitness is needed so everyone can prepare for the day ahead.

I can not recommend anyone this trip because it was very disappointing . The guid rushed us trough the whole tour , he didn’t have us time to enjoy the view , since from walking you couldn’t look; the walk on the slippery rocky road to dangerous, you are walking half of the time on a 12 inch concrete path , one site hanging on to the cable Railing, on the other side is the veranda. The scenery is breathtaking, I just don’t have the time to see it. We stopped probably twice for about three minutes to have a sip of water. At the waterfall we got a half an hour to take pictures and have lunch, and then we had to march down. If you’re looking to complete the 6 km of Fast paced walking, this is for you. I am sorry that I wasted a day of my precious vacation, and I didn’t got to enjoy it all. The tall guy talk to us for about five minutes before we hit the road explaining about the different plants and animals, Didn’t speak another word through at all, one of the Guest couldn’t keep up , so the fours of us fall back with her, because the guid didn’t seem to be interested to slow down . On the way back the guid was talking to the driver not to us , not one word . We didn’t felt welcomed nor entertained, I’m crying for my waisted day and money , I have only 3 more days to go on this wonderful island .

Do not waste your money on this trip! This was absolutely disastrous:
- The pace was extremely high. Like “if I take a moment to drink water, I’ll lose the whole group” high. We did not take ANY breaks, did not even stop to take proper pictures or take the beautiful view in…
- The guide was super irritating and irritated at us. He would not answer any question and would say that we are late because of us so we are skipping the talking (?!!). This whole thing felt like a school trip with a professor scolding you the whole time. We did not learn anything and could not enjoy anything.
You are much better off coming here alone and taking your time with the view honestly…

Must see levada. Our guide Samuel kept a good pace during the hike and took good care of the group. We hiked in a group of 14 people (full mini bus). Since the paths are very narrow, I'd prefer a bit smaller group next time.

Pick up and drop off we’re excellent.
Van clean and safe. Driver and guide very pleasant. Walk is 13km in length. Not for anyone who dislikes heights or tunnels. Some of the group had not prepared to walk under muddy conditions despite joining instructions that were clear!
Only negative was the length of the stops at beginning and end of walk. Too short. Other than that a great day out.

The trip was very good only a lots of rain but the time to pick us up was later than indicated in the confirmation mail. So we were waiting at the bus stop for at least half an hour.

Diese Wanderung bietet bei gutem Wetter tolle Ausblicke, und auch der Zielort ist sehr beeindruckend. Es wird auch nicht langweilig weil der Weg trotz des flachen Terrains gute Konzentration erfordert.

A pesar de que hacia super mal tiempo nuestro guia samuel fue muy amable y lucho por llevarnos hasta el final de la levada. Ademas hablaba español perfecto y se notaba que le gustaba su trabajo. Esta levada es la que mas merece la pena de la isla
