This December my wife and I traveled to Madeira for our honeymoon. We knew that we wanted to get out in nature, but weren’t sure what hike to start with. We had a pretty basic checklist. It had to include waterfalls, beautiful views, and be a distance that wouldn’t leave us sore for the rest of our trip. This hike checked all of those boxes and more. Our guide was knowledgeable and shared interesting history about the levadas throughout the hike. It was immediately obvious how much he cared about land and wildlife conservation. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the hike to anyone who asks.

The views from this hike were absolutely breathtaking! Bruno our guide was brilliant and explained thoroughly where we were going. We had such a fantastic day out, my camera roll was full by the end of it! We completed this in October 2025 and the weather was perfect, not too hot but no rain.
Wouldn't recommend if you don't have a head for heights or caves (although they're not too bad) And take torches and appropriate footwear.

Relatively easy hike in idyllic surroundings. There is an opportunity to pick up a picnic at supermarket en route to hike.

Fantastic trip, despite the weather at the start, but that can’t be helped and actually made it more atmospheric in the forest. Guide Bruno was fun and very helpful, full of information.

Lovely easy walk with a great guide.
There are a few tunnels so torch needed and mind your head ! Great views along the way and it is a bit stop start in places to allow other people through. It had rained a bit beforehand so there were a few puddles and muddy areas so proper footwear recommended!

Driver picked up and dropped off every other person to their hotel but made us walk 25 minutes steep down hill at 8am and then wanted us to walk a steep 34 minutes uphill after the 8 mile hike while it was ONLY A 4 MINUTE DRIVE! Tour felt very rushed and the tour guide made fun of us for being tired after we walked almost half an hour at 8am to get there.
Tour director also had no problem leaving people behind.

You (updated) accommodation was outside our pickup area. You were informed of the pickup location and accepted it.
You booked a group tour, for a 10-15km / 3h30-4h walk, with other guests, all of who enjoyed the walk.
We do expect guests to be on time at pickup locations.
It was great that you enjoyed the location.
I will look into the guide’s behavior … which eventually might need to be even more adapted to our guests … although the local culture is also important to absorb.

This tour was well organized in the sense of length and time for wc and small pauses. It was an easy walk with few uphill places meaning can suit everyone. Marta was a funny guide and talked loud and clear 😃

Fabulous excellent walk and good guide. Only issue was the change in pick up point that we were not informed of. Soon remedied and they picked us up. Nice moderate flat walk and stunning scenery.

I loved this walk because it was super beautiful, the nature, the way to walk... the guide was ok. But you can easily walk this one yourself because you have to walk and walk back the same way anyways. So no need for a guide I think.

Really eye opening to see the levada and the surrounding vegetation but parts of the path can get very narrow and you will have to walk in a single line, making it difficult to hear the tour guide. Also we had about 30 minutes at the waterfalls which was great, but wish we had could’ve had more time to take in the sights along the way. There was another tour group behind us and we definitely felt rushed to keep moving since there’s only 1 way.

This was the least enjoyable walk we experienced out of three. It was rushed and you didn't feel you could even stop to take a photo or enjoy the experience. The tour guide did say he expected rain which was why the walk was rushed but it was a light shower and we would have preferred to have taken things slower and use my waterproof. I think I spent the entire day looking at my boots! Also, when sent information about what items you need it did not mention a torch which you do indeed need to have!

We were a party of 12, with mixed Portuguese and English speaking. Our guide, Emanuel, focussed most of his time on the couple who couldn't speak English. Consequently, when we entered the tunnels, he was 15+ metres ahead of us, leaving 2 fearful members to fend for themselves. No one told any of us to bring a powerful torch each! The party fragmented considerably, especially on the way back. Some members were very frightened in the tunnels. Not good. Why did we pay for an English speaking guide who mostly spoke in Portuguese?

Really liked the walk. Our pick up time was 8.15-8.30. Mini bus arrived at 9.10am. When we started walking the guide said we will have to walk faster so we can get to the halfway point for lunch. We only had 15 minutes for lunch. Tour guide said he will be leaving car park at 3.50pm so the walkers got walking as they did not want to miss the bus back to Funchal. Did not have much time to take photos. Not pleased with our tour guide, very rude and arrogant. We did like the walk it would be better with a nicer walking guide..

I actually went on a different walk, but turned out even better.
I had a lovely time. Lots of Waterfalls and beautiful walk in the nature.
I can only say good thing about this trip. We'll organised, in time, our guide was excellent, funny and we learned so much about the island and the plants living there.

What was a lovely day turned bad at the end. The young guide, ?Elder, was very nice, spoke about the importance of safety / rules on the Levado. I decided the area on the cliff would be too difficult because I wouldn’t be able to use my walking sticks (I am 79). I walked the first part and the guide, kindly, organized for me to go back / stay in the park. I did lots of walking in the park /had a lovely day.
On the drive back to Funchal, the driver gave interesting info but he was really excited - driving with both arms in the air and turning constantly to speak to the 2 people in the front seat beside him. I sat behind him and could see his face profile. I made a joke / asked him to tell his stories but keep his eyes on the road / hands on the wheel. For maybe 2 minutes he obliged and then the same behaviour started again. The third time I told him to stop as soon as safe and let me out. I told him I would find my own way back. The people in the back spoke up to support his bad behaviour. By then he was mad - he refused to let me out but did drive properly. He never spoke again. There was a deep silence in the small bus - not a nice end to a beautiful day. I was the last person to be dropped off. He did not apologize.

Out of 3 levada walks I did in the laurisilva forest this was the best - more open and varied landscape, breathtaking mountains, stunning views and excellent guide.

This 13km walk was just one “green” experience after another. From the laurels to the cedars to the mosses lining the rocks dripping water into the Levadas, this trip was absolutely beautiful. One could almost be lulled into forgetting that the side of the path opposite the Levadas plunged straight down for hundreds of meters! The Caldeirão itself was surreal and despite the large number of people on the trail, few seemed to trudge those last steps to the end. It felt very special to be there. Our guide was Gloria and she was terrific.

One of the my best traveling experiences. A womderful 13-kilometer trip through the most picturesque landscape I've ever seen. Suitable even for the unprepared. A real adventure both for adults and children

We had a wonderful tour with our very knowledgable guide who told us interesting facts about the vegetation, the building of the Levadas and the history of Madeira. The walk itself was stunning with amazing views despite the cloudy day. We were a small group 6 people which allowed us to walk reasonably fast, but with plenty of time to take pictures. We stopped at a magnificent waterfall and had some packed lunch before heading back. Afterwards our tour guide took us to a hotel for some tea and coffe with amazing views before dropping us back off at the hotel. I would highly recommend this tour. It's really worth it!

Einfach Natur Pur. Wir können diese Levada Wanderung sehr empfehlen.
Allerdings sollte man bedenken, das man jeden Schritt genau überlegen muss. Der Boden ist entweder steinig oder mit dicken Wurzeln belegt
Ansonsten ist die Tour super.

L'organisateur est venu nous prendre à notre hôtel.
Cette randonnée est très belle et vous réserve de très beaux points de vues. Vous pénétrez au coeur de l'île de Madère et de son côté verdoyant, en suivant tout le long un levada.
La guide était très sympathique et s'est adapté au niveau du groupe.

Es war eine beeindruckende Wanderung, mit einen freundlichen und kompetenten Reiseleiter. Wir sind pünktlich vom Hotel abgeholt worden und zur Levada gefahren. Dort gab es eine Einweisung und auf der Wanderung wurde auf Fauna und Flora aufmerksam gemacht und erläutert. Die herrlichen Ausblicke in die Täler waren einmalig. Es war ein wunderschönen und anstrengender Tag mit vielen wunderbaren Erlebnissen. Danke!

Diese Tour war ohne den gebuchten deutschsprachigen Guide. Die Wanderung hatte Schwierigkeiten, die so in der Beschreibung bei Buchung nicht angekündigt waren. Aus diesem Grund musste die Tour vorher von uns abgebrochen werden und wir mussten umkehren.

- the description states that we *try* and secure various languages. You should have been advised that a German speaking guide was not available. According to the guide you dis not mention this *during* the tour .
- with regard to descriptions, these are official descriptions which have been used for decades … improved over time
