What To Expect

Make your way to the Medici Chapels, located on Piazza di Madonna degli Aldobrandini in Florence. Present your skip-the-line ticket to bypass the long lines and proceed directly inside.

The opulent chapel can be explored at your leisure. During your time there, learn that the Medici family (along with several church leaders) commissioned Michelangelo to build the chapel as a pendant to Filippo Brunelleschi's Sagrestia Vecchia. The Sagresti Nuova was to be a mausoleum and a private church for the Medici family, staunch supporters of the church.

Construction began in 1520 and was completed by Giorgio Vasari in 1546. Of the planned 4 tombs, only 2 were built. These two hold the bodies of Giuliano Lorenzo de'Medici and Lorenzo di Piero de'Medici and are decorated with Michelangelo's allegorical sculptures Night, Day, Dawn, and Dusk.

Beautiful chapel with frescos and crips. The entry was easy and quick. No confusion. We went at 9 so, it was not crowded. It was great easy start to a day of exploring. Right outside the exit, there is a little market with leather and souvenirs.

Could not find where we had to exchange our voucher for physical tickets

Too hard to find where we were supposed to pick the tickets up. We had gone to check out the location 2 days beforehand. Even chatting online to try and find the location for ticket pickup was frustrating. So we spoke to the attendants at the door to the Medici Chapel. The line was only 4 people. So we canceled our Viator skip-the-line tickets and just bought tickets at the door. Much simpler. The Medici Chapel is absolutely stunning so I am very glad we went in when we did and did not have the stress 2 days later.

Medici is awesome, but how this tour is advertised is a scam. Still stood in a line, a voucher, no guide, severe price gouging compared to entry price. All stars go to the chapel, not this tour operator.

Such a great time saver to do this one! Day was rainy so being able to use the VIP line was fantastic. Only thing to improve would be to find a way to tell those in line where to meet to avoid confusion at the Chapel.

Trying to get the voucher was a mess. Instruction's were they would be sent 48 hours in advance. They did not. Got an email that just kept linking me back and forth between Viator site and the email link. Had to send five emails trying to get my voucher. Finally the sent it as a pdf to an email. This is not a good service and you do not need to do this just order your voucher directly yourself

In all cases, the voucher is a PDF file. We do not know why you could not read PDF files.

The Ticket Arrived Just Before…

Viator did not confirm with me until right before. Because I was only visiting Florence for one day, I was concerned that it might not go through at all and bought a second ticket directly through the Florence Museum system. That ticket was the one I used. The Medici Chapel is stunning beyond belief and not to miss!

It was a beautiful building with great sculptures. We did a self guided audio tour that was not worth the money. I recommend that you try to book an actual guided tour to get a better understanding of the history and art.

Smooth, affordable & straightforward - we received our tickets a few days before the trip & on the day everything went without a hitch. The chapel inside is stunning & beautifully designed, definitely well worth seeing, made with tiles of dark green, terracotta red, pearly white & various other colours. Giant statues are to be found as well, including in the tomb area, where sculptures including Michelangelo pieces are to be seen. There's also an exhibition with beautiful gifts & items commissioned by the family that once resided in the chapel.

We were sold tickets for the Medici Chapel which apparently has been closed in recent weeks. A local guide checked with the ticket office for us and confirmed that the adjacent church was open but not the chapel.

More info would have helped.

We really enjoyed the Medici Chapels! The only thing that would have made it better is if we had a digital ticket from the start…and not have to wait for an emailed ticket. More information would have been helpful on where to stand and the process for entrance.
