- The Dome Climb is usually scheduled at the end of the guided tour and takes 1 additional hour.
- Depending on availability and to ensure the best possible experience, some departures may begin with the Dome climb instead. In this case, your guide will cover the Dome and the Museum during the 2-hour guided portion. The remaining areas of the Duomo complex can then be visited indipendently at any time (accordingly with opening hours) within the 3-day validity of your pass.
- Baptistery close at 1:30 PM each first Sunday of the month.
- Cathedral is closed (due to the mass) each Sunday and during Christian Holidays.
- Brunelleschi pass: Dome, Bell Tower, Baptistery, Opera del Duomo Museum and Santa Reparata.
- For visits through December 31, 2026, Giotto’s Bell Tower and Santa Reparata Crypt are included. For visits from January 1, 2027, these two sites will no longer be included, following changes to the venue’s ticketing arrangements. Your reserved Brunelleschi’s Dome climb and Cathedral access remain included. The Cathedral can be visited independently once on any of the 3 calendar days covered by your ticket, subject to opening hours and religious services. The tour price remains unchanged.

Exhilarating! Well worth the climb! Several breaks going up and down so no that tough. Views can’t be beat. Museum tour was excellent and we learned a lot. Crypt was great, well preserved. Didn’t do the bell tower.
Well worth the money. Debra was knowledgeable & had a wonderful sense of humor. Kept the group on point allowing for rest room stops & making sure we understood the many different points of interest covered in the ticket. I learned so much and fully enjoyed the entire day.

This experience is an incredible combination of a historical guided tour and a thrilling (slightly terrifying) climb to the prettiest view in Florence! You will start outside of the cathedral and learn about the history of its construction and the significance of the duomo, then tour inside the 2nd century baptismal building and the Opera del Duomo Museum before ascending to the top. The view up there is absolutely stunning and it is a really majestic location for photos and sightseeing, but there are definitely a few moments that will take your breath away along the ascent. If you have a bad fear of heights, this might not be a great idea.
Our tour guide Anastasia was incredible - a combination of very friendly, very excited and extremely informed about the history of these structures. Excellent job by her and the Walks In Town team!
Be advised, there are a LOT of stairs and hardly any good places to catch your breath, so people who have difficulty with walking, breathing or cardio activities should steer clear of the climb.

The whole activity itself was a highlight of our trip to Florence. The only hiccup was that our tickets were not sent to us before we showed up at the meeting point. This was quickly sorted by our very professional guide Camilla. Be prepared for the 463 steps! Enjoy

Once tour started it was very good. The problem was we had to hang around meet up point for a half an hour waiting for almost all of us to get the pdf ticket for tour. This did not happen with Walks of Italy tours. Our tour guide took care of all ticketing . Viatour tour required constant showing of ticket and it was not readily available in our app. This was very annoying . Guide was great and climb to dome awesome. Ticket business definitely detracted from experience.

I completely understand why the extra time at the meeting point felt frustrating. One clarification may be helpful for future guests: the Viator app confirms the reservation, while the PDF files we send are the actual Opera del Duomo tickets. They remain with each guest because they are also needed independently after the guided tour to use the rest of the included 3-day Duomo Complex pass.
During the tour, your guide takes care of the group and the necessary entries. However, once the guide is no longer with you, you still need your own tickets to visit the remaining included monuments, such as Giotto’s Bell Tower or the Crypt. That is why your guide preferred to spend some extra time making sure everyone had the correct tickets downloaded rather than risk anyone having difficulties later.
We agree that this process should feel as smooth as possible, and your feedback is useful as we continue improving how we communicate and deliver the tickets before the tour.
I’m glad that once underway, the experience itself - and especially the climb to the top of Brunelleschi’s Dome - delivered.

I was nervous to do the climb because I am a little claustrophobic, but my guide Michele was very kind and made sure I felt comfortable the whole way. The climb was shorter then I thought, and the view wa spectacular

Christian was our tour guide. He was excellent and knows everything!! Just fantastic. The museum is terrific and has all of the original sculptures from the cathedral. Baptistery also good but they are restoring ceiling now.

Great experience! Our tour guide was Anastasia was extremely knowledgeable and so kind! The walk up to the top of the dome was an experience. It’s a very tight fit in spots but wasn’t too bad. The views at the top are incredible!

If you are on the fence about this climb, it is completely doable! You will get your blood pumping, but you will see the Dome from a very unique perspective. We are a family of three ages 23, and mid-fifties. We were winded, but not exhausted. It was in the mid-upper 80’s the day we climbed and was not hot within the space climbed. There are some tight spaces and steeper steps toward the top, but our son is 6’2” and navigated just fine with some ducking here and there. We fist bumped after our descent since it felt like we had accomplished something and saw Brunelleschi’s Dome in way like no other.

That feeling of having actually accomplished something is a huge part of the Brunelleschi’s Dome experience. The 463 steps, tighter passages and steeper final sections make you work for it, but they also let you experience the Dome from inside its extraordinary structure before finally seeing Florence from above.

What a great way to learn about the area around the Duomo. Our guide, Camila, was an excellent storyteller, weaving the history and facts together in an organized yet flexible way! I loved being able to focus on the history, without wondering where to go, and the bonus is getting to walk right in at your assigned time, rather than wait in a looooong line.
The Climb up the Duomo was narrow and hot, but the views made it worth it!

Amazing, but not for everyone. The hike to the top is legit difficult and if you don't like tight spaces, not for you. However, the view at the top of Florence and the surrounding area is breath taking.

This was an interesting tour. Mainly booked it to do a dome climb but then realized that it could have been done without the tour. Nonetheless glad we did the tour itself as we learned quite a bit. The climb itself was really great, not that difficult as described. The views from the dome are spectacular

You’re absolutely right that Brunelleschi’s Dome can be climbed independently with the appropriate reserved ticket. The reason we pair the climb with a guided tour is to add the part that a ticket alone cannot provide: the stories, art and history of the Baptistery, Opera del Duomo Museum and Cathedral that explain why the Dome exists in the first place.
So I’m particularly happy that, although the climb was your original reason for booking, you came away glad you had done the guided portion too and learned quite a bit along the way.
And yes - once you reach the top, Florence certainly delivers the reward.

Wow what a morning. It's not for the faint hearted as the 463 stairs up and back down really do test your fitness. But the reward at the top of the dome is spectacular. To look over the whole city and surrounding countryside is breathtaking. I would definitely recommend doing the tour as early as you can it was hot. Not much air inside the staircase. The walk around the balcony of the cathedral looking up close to the domes fresco, learning how they achieved this is incredible. Our guide Camilla was so lovely and knowledge and she climbs this at least twice a day!!!! She allowed us time to catch our breath all the while giving encouragement. So glad we chose to do it and feel very accomplished. Great day.

I loved reading the progression in your review: the physical challenge, seeing the enormous Dome frescoes almost at eye level, understanding how it was all achieved, and then finally stepping outside to see Florence and the Tuscan countryside from above. This was a brilliant tour! It began at 8.45 am and our guide, Camilla, was excellent! She clearly explained about the history of the Baptistry, before taking us across to the museum. She included images and clearly explained the history of the art work, making links to Netflix even to support our imagination! We were shown all of the art highlights and history, which gave us a fascinating tour of Florence. It was also very helpful that she waited with us to explain how the queue for the climb worked, making sure we all knew where to go. The fact that she told us warned us that the first part would be the longest was also good when we began our climb! The view from the top was beautiful, so I would highly recommend this to anyone who would like to learn about the art and history of Florence, as well as explore the beautiful view - thank you for such an amazing experience!

We had a wonderful tour guide provide us an engaging instruction on the history of the Duomo’s history, construction, architecture and art as we traversed the steps of the dome. It was illuminating and gave us a great background to the entire city of Florence. We were told to arrive 15-20 minutes before the start time but the guide arrived 18 minutes late with no explanation or apology. When we signed up for this tour we expected to climb the dome first which was what we wanted— we signed up for the 8:15am tour specifically to avoid crowds and heat. The day before the tour we were notified that we wouldn’t be climbing the dome until 10:30 and first was a tour of the outside of the cathedral and the museum. It’s not to say that wasn’t interesting even with a so-so guide, it just wasn’t what we expected when we arranged the tour months in advance.

First, the guide arriving late without an explanation or apology is not the standard we expect from our team, and we completely understand how frustrating that must have been after you had arrived early as requested.
Regarding the Dome timing, we would like to clarify this point for future travelers. Our standard itinerary is a guided visit covering the Cathedral façade, Baptistery and Opera del Duomo Museum, followed by the reserved Brunelleschi’s Dome climb at the end of the guided portion. We only begin with the Dome in specific cases when the entry times allocated by the venue require us to adjust the order.
For the 8:15 AM departure, the 10:30 AM Dome climb is therefore part of the normal structure of this experience. This itinerary, including the fact that the Dome climb takes place after the guided portion, is stated on the product page and in the Important Information section available before booking.
We completely understand that you personally would have preferred to climb first, particularly in summer, but the tour itself operated according to the itinerary booked.

Good length , unfortunately the baptistry was under construction and the cathedral was a holy day so couldn't enter. Was amazing tour and our guide Debra was great!!

Florence sometimes reminds us that these monuments are still very much alive: restoration work and religious celebrations can occasionally affect what visitors are able to see on a particular day.
