Vasari Corridor (Corridoio Vasariano) Tours and Tickets

The Vasari Corridor is a short passageway connecting Palazzo Vecchio over the Ponte Vecchio to the Pitti Palace in Florence, Italy. Although it was built as a private passageway for the powerful Medici family, today, it is a panoramic walkway managed by the Uffizi.

The Vasari Corridor in Florence is roughly 1 kilometer (6 miles) long between the Uffizi Galleries entrance and Pitti Palace. From the ground floor of the Uffizi Galleries, it runs over the Ponte Vecchio over the Arno River to the Medicean Gardens of Boboli and the Grand-Ducal abode of Pitti Palace.

The Vasari Corridor in Florence was closed for security reasons and renovation in 2016 and reopened to the public—with new lighting, emergency exits, and accessibility features—in December of 2024. Visiting requires purchasing a special ticket through the Uffizi Galleries.

Taking photos is allowed in the Vasari Corridor as long as it is done without a flash, selfie sticks, tripods, or stands of any kind. Keep in mind that visitors are only allowed about 45 minutes inside, so you’ll have to snap photos quickly.

The corridor once housed an important collection of paintings, as well as ancient sculptures, frescoes, and other works of art. The 2024 renovation, however, brought the walkway back to its original empty state so visitors see the passageway as the Florentine nobility once did and admire views over Florence from above.

In a nutshell, Duke Cosimo I de’ Medici commissioned the corridor building in 1565 for his son’s wedding. Giorgio Vasari, a painter and architect, designed the corridor to allow safe passage between the Pitti Palace and the seat of government in Palazzo Vecchio. Minus political intrigue, the corridor has been an art gallery for many years.
