Go EARLY!!!. Only take a skip-the-line tour. Make sure your cell battery is fully charged. Drink plenty of fluids. Stairs are quite manageable; i’m 72!. Take as many pictures as you like but allow time to “just be” in this unbelievable place! Frederico w KayKay tours was our guide; the BEST ever

Camilla was our incredible guide. So knowledgeable, fun, easy to understand and follow. We learned so much about the artists, Florence, architecture, and society. The climb was not too challenging, and with the headphones we could easily hear Camilla even when we were not in close proximity. The art was amazing and I would highly recommend this tour!

We very much enjoyed the Duomo museum tour and climb with Becky! Her explanations were clear and informative. She has a great depth of knowledge about Florence and the Renaissance period. She guided us through the climb up into the dome and also added interesting facts along the way. The views at the top were well worth the effort to climb the 400+ steps!! This was a fantastic tour!

This tour was great. Our guide Emmanuelle was extremely knowledgeable (PhD in Art History). I can't begin to describe how much I learnt on the tour, the museum was particularly impressive and we didn't feel too rushed in our visit. The climb wasn't too taxing and again Emmanuelle was a fantastic guide. Highly recommended.

Becky was upbeat and full of knowledge about the history of this beautiful cathedral. We had visited the Duomo in Milan the day before, and although that one is much more ornate, there is such a beauty to this one. Still gorgeous on the outside, the inside seems much more hollowed out but the ceiling of the dome is absolutely stunning with all the paintings. Becky knew so much and she let us know which part of the climb was the most challenging etc. It was 95 degrees the day we went and I was happy to find out the climb did not reflect the temp outside. It wasn’t “air conditioned” but I think the thick, stone walls do a good job of insulating from the outside. The sweat was rolling just from the task of all the stairs but the view is unmatched. You can walk 360 degrees around it. The climb down was a cinch comparatively. Super happy we booked this!

Dome was the highlight.

The dome climb was a highlight — I really enjoyed that part. The first part of the tour was too heavy on history; we spent a good 30 minutes just standing at the museum entrance going over background information. I also wasn’t a fan of the interactive elements, where our guide split us into groups for various activities. I understand the intent behind it, but personally, I prefer to just enjoy my vacation rather than participate in group exercises. Overall, the tour felt too long — the first half alone, with all the talking and history, took about 1.5 hours. That said, we did have three tours that day, so some of that impression may just be fatigue rather than the tour itself.

We had Becky as our tour guide. She was incredible. So knowledgeable and took care of the group. We ran late to the event due to train issues and the company answered my messages immediately. Luckily we were able to meet up with the group before they started the climb and then Betsy oriented us to the museum tour after the climb. Very happy to have found this tour and highly recommend for others!

Emanuele was incredible . I knew the climb would be tough . On such a hot day even in the cool stairs , it was hard and everyone in the group sweat . I like to think I’m in shape but it was much harder than I imagined . Completely worth it ! View was incredible !!!! Fair warning to those that may have vertigo / motion sickness . There are many stairs that wind up for multiple levels and it’s a tight space . I was dizzy going up and down !

I had a great time on this fun experience. Our guide Becky is a long time Fiorentina and was *super* knowledgeable about the art and architecture of the Duomo. She made it even more fun! I learned a lot and enjoyed meeting the 8 or so other people on my tour. Word of caution: there are a LOT of steps to get up to the dome. The views are amazing and totally worth the climb but you should be aware of the level of difficulty.

We had an amazing time touring the Duomo, and it was all thanks to our tour guide, Becky! You could tell she’s really passionate about the city, history, and culture. Her storytelling was so engaging that the tour felt like it flew by. I would highly recommend this guided tour to everyone, it’s definitely worth it! Just a few things to keep in mind: the tour involves a good amount of walking, taking stairs, and spending time in the sun. Make sure you have comfortable footwear and a water bottle. Feedback to the provider : It wasn’t very clear from the instructions how to find our tour guide, especially since the place can get quite crowded. We called the provided number, but unfortunately, it was coming in inactive. I wish the tour provider had included some landmarks, signs, or banners to help us recognize the tour guide.

Great learning and exercise up to the Dome!

Our guide Lisa was very knowledgeable and nice! She told us the history of Florence and described the different sculptures inside the museum. Then she guided us up to the Dome! 400 plus steps - once you are done, your glutes will be hard as rocks! :-D If you have a strong heart, I would recommend the experience! But don’t go up there if you have health issues or are pregnant as it is an intense exercise, mainly when the weather is so hot like right now.

Lisa was a master story teller, weaving a stitching together the events that led up to the Duomo climb. As a teacher, I appreciated the 360 degree view of the time period events and the “why” behind all we were seeing and experiencing. It made Florence make so much more sense. Highly recommend to also book a tour to see tue Statue of David to help further the experience. 10/10 worth it. Seamless.

A Bucket List Experience and a Vacation Highlight

Our guide, Lisa, was exceptional. She provided an energetic history of Florence and the spectacular Duomo. The visit to the recently renovated museum to see the Baptistry doors and learn more about the construction of the cathedral was time well spent. As for the climb, if you're in moderately decent shape it is doable. Lisa, our guide, was careful to keep our group together on the way up and checked on everyone regularly. There are opportunities to briefly rest and catch your breath. It is not an easy trek up the 463 steps, but if you are in half way decent shape, you can do it. The lantern was completed in 1471, twenty one years before Columbus sailed the ocean blue. It really is a unique opportunity to experience a great engineering marvel and spectacular views of Florence.

We researched this activity before we traveled because of what other reviewers said. I’m glad we did it and our college aged kids loved it. Understanding how the architecture was achieved was interesting. The view from the top was beautiful. Our guide was patient and respectful of all on the tour some of whom needed extra time for the climb. She explained what we were seeing once we got to the top and even took photos for everyone in the group.

Great views and experience, but not for the weak

Finding our guide was a little difficult, there are lots of other groups meeting in the same area so give yourself time to find them and not just time to get to the meeting spot. We learned a lot on the tour from our guide and had plenty of time at the top for photos and more information. Our guide ensured we stayed in the shade and away from other groups as much as possible. The only negative was that the headsets cut out when we were in the duomo stairs and on top when we were out of range. I will also say that it was very difficult to climb for someone who goes to yoga once a week and rides a bike occasionally. I would recommend doing some stair climbers and cardio to prep. It was also an extreme heat event so that didn’t help.

We had a great tour experience. Our tour guide, Camilla, was super knowledgeable, friendly, and personable. We enjoyed how the tour was structured- our guide pointed out important locations and facts on the exterior before taking us through the museum portion and explaining the most notable/important pieces of art, followed by the Dome climb. We did not go through the main part of the cathedral with our tour guide, but you still get to see the interior cathedral as you walk through the queue line for the Dome climb. We felt like this was more than sufficient and did not need to revisit the main part of the cathedral (although this ticket DOES include main cathedral entry! You can come back by yourself within 72 hours of your climb if you wish to explore the inside cathedral on your own). The dome climb is definitely a workout but the view at the top is incredible and so worth it. Highly recommend this tour to others visiting Florence! We got so much more out of visiting with a guide than if we visited by ourselves.

Amazing! Full extensive tour of an absolute masterpiece. We appreciated Becky’s extensive knowledge of the overall history of the duomo and Florence along with many interesting bits of information during the tour! To experience the dome at our fingertips was incredible. Thank you, Becky, for such a memorable experience in such a gorgeous city! (Side note-please keep in mind that you are walking to the very top of the dome. It was easy for us, but for some people it was a bit taxing due to age or injury)
