Great stroll through the heart of Amsterdam with a knowledgeable guide! We saw historical sites, heard some dark stories, and got to experience the nightlife of the city. Maria was great and I would recommend this tour.

The tour was subpar. The guide Maria was very nice, but her story telling was lackluster and had no rhythm or flow. The ghost stories were very plain, predictable and anti-climatic. There were a lot of quick stops but you spend most of your time walking with no interaction in between. I’m was pretty disappointed and would not book again.

I aim to provide an authentic look at Amsterdam’s heritage, focusing on well-documented legends and dark history rather than invented drama. Each stop is a dedicated 10–20 minute storytelling session designed to immerse guests in the city's folklore. I choose to stick to historically grounded narratives rather than exaggerating details for theatrical effect.
Regarding the walking portions: Amsterdam has very strict regulations to maintain the city's peace. Guides can face fines up to €900 or permanently lose their guiding permits for speaking loudly while moving through the streets. I always explain this at the start, as I save the storytelling for our designated stops where I can legally and comfortably share the history. On your particular tour, I recall our personal chats about the paranormal as we walked, and I'm sorry if those moments felt like a disconnect from the tour's structure for you.
While I understand that my historically grounded storytelling style may not be the right fit for everyone, it is unfortunate that the experience did not align with your expectations. I truly value the intimate nature of my small-group tours and will use your comments to ensure my future guests have an even clearer understanding of the tour's pace and legal constraints.

María was our guide through the streets of Amsterdam. It was just me & my sister so it felt like a private tour which was great. Maria talked easily about the history of Amsterdam and told the dark history stories like they were people she truly cared about. Nothing felt rehearsed or rote and I appreciated that. All the locations are interesting and may be spots you wouldn’t normally notice, so we liked that too.

Definitely don’t book this tour for your last day in Amsterdam. Our guide pointed out so many interesting spots to visit after the tour! Very interesting with many quaint details. We very much enjoyed this tour! Highly recommend!

I really enjoyed this super-interesting tour of the dark history and ghost stories of Amsterdam. What I liked the most was all the stories about historical Amsterdam that you won't be told about in any other tour.

After doing many ghost tours in different cities, we were disappointed by this one. You dont get a whole lot information/stories and you never go in anywhere. We were ultimately not very impressed by the guide.

Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry to hear the tour didn’t meet your expectations. I always strive to provide a memorable experience that blends ghost stories with dark historical facts. Many past guests — including those who have taken similar tours in other cities — have appreciated the depth of detail and storytelling.
As for building access: the tour is designed for the evening, when most historical sites are closed to the public. Even during daytime hours, many of these locations require individual entry fees (typically €15–€20 per person) and long waits, which aren’t practical within the format of a walking tour.
I also do my best to create an interactive experience and encourage questions throughout. I recall you mentioning at the end that you enjoyed the tour, so I was a bit surprised by your written review. That said, I understand that everyone experiences things differently, and I truly value your feedback as I continue to improve the tour.

Lovely ghost tour! Our guide was patient and helpful when part of my group had to arrive late. The tour hit some really cool parts of the city I’d never seen and gave an in depth overview of the darker parts of Amsterdam.

Pilar was a great tour guide. She’s been living in Amsterdam for many years and is very knowledgeable about the city. Our tour was during the King’s Day Celebration, so it was nice to see the city so lively. It was a bit loud due to this, but Pilar did a great job of making sure we were able to hear her. You get to learn a lot about the dark history of Amsterdam. The tour is about two hours and goes by quickly.

Despite having trouble finding the right spot (head to Naked Espresso and you’ll see the entrance - it’s NOT the gate Google takes you too) - the city was beautiful at night and the stories were an awesome reflection on the darker history of Amsterdam.

The guide, Maria, was knowledgeable on the history and stories. Dam Square was designated a safety risk from 3pm until midnight on the day of our tour. Our meeting location was Dam Square. During the tour we entered a different location where the protest was in full force with at least 30 police vehicles and dozens of officers present. The protestors were loud and we felt unsafe. We verbalized our concern to Maria and she said it wasn't a problem and began her next story. We were not comfortable being there and we left the tour. We feel that with the safely risk designation these two squares should have been avoided.

Thank you for your feedback. I’d like to clarify a few points. First and foremost, safety is always our top priority. When the tour began at 20:00, Dam Square was completely empty and secure. The protest you mentioned was a Palestine demonstration at Nieuwmarkt, which is a common occurrence in Amsterdam these days, and we viewed it from a safe distance. There was a modest police presence in Nieuwmarkt, which is typical due to its proximity to the Red Light District. However, the claim of 30 police vehicles and dozens of officers is not accurate. Nieuwmarkt is a very small square, and it simply doesn’t accommodate that many police cars. At no point did we mix with the protest crowds, and the tour continued without any issues. Additionally, no official government warnings were issued regarding Dam Square that day; the only mention of a safety risk was in a Dutch news article about an unrelated Ajax celebration. I want to emphasize that had I seen any danger, I would have immediately aborted the tour. My commitment is always to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests, and the rest of the group continued with the tour until the end and enjoyed it without concern.

Great experience. Our guide Maria was excellent with loads of interesting stories. Kept me and my grandaughter enthralled with all the ghostly info. Shame it rained on the night but Maria wasnt deterred she was still enthusiastic with her tales.
