Fantastic Amsterdam History Tour with David
David from Hit the Bricks was a fantastic guide with an incredible wealth of knowledge. He was extremely engaging, and his tone and pace were perfect. His enthusiasm came alive as he shared Amsterdam’s unique history, truly bringing the city’s past to life while seamlessly connecting old Amsterdam with the new.
The tour was scheduled for two hours, but David generously spent nearly three hours with us. It was relaxed, personal and never felt rushed. An absolutely perfect experience and a highlight of our visit to Amsterdam. Highly recommended!
I had always gone to Amsterdam for specific art exhibitions and this time decided to see some more of the city. I did both an evening 90 minute canal boat tour with Those Dam Boat Guys and, another day, a 2 hour (slow walking with lots of stops) walking tour with Hit the Bricks walks, a sister company. The guides were the big draw. They were articulate, entertaining and informative. The meeting place, a 15 minute walk from the Central Station, is a comfortable office with character where water, a toilette and provisions for the boat are available. I felt at home as a solo traveler with friendly international travellers and had a great time. Small, personable groups. The only reason the walking tour isn't a 5 star is because while the Begunhof was on the walking tour description, we did not go as it was a Saturday and, I was told, far too crowded with concerts on. Oh, and if you are there on a Wednesday night, the related bar next door as open mike stand up comedy in English.
Our guide from Boat Guys was top notch, very accommodating and knowledgeable about Amsterdam and country history.

This is a GREAT activity especially for newbies (like me) visiting the city for the first time. Axel was a great tour guide who gave an informative and engaging overview of Amsterdam's history and culture today - lots of fun facts I'll be annoying people with back home - while stopping at various iconic landmarks and places I probably would've missed or not known the full story of on my own. Can't recommend the Hit the Bricks/Dam Boat Guys people enough! (Also say hi to the cutest cat Koko if you get to their office/meeting point early. 😄)

Our guide was very knowledgeable, personable, and funny. I felt socially comfortable throughout the tour and learned more than I expected.
When we arrived at the tour site, the operator had no idea we were coming, and no guide was available, although our voucher clearly showed we had booked the tour. The operator graciously agreed to substitute a 90 minute canal tour., which we enjoyed immensely. So, a not-so-great review for Viator, but a big thumbs up for Hit the Bricks/Those Dam Boat Guys Tours and our guide, Mark.
