Operating Schedule: The Hop On Hop Off Akureyri tour offers a flexible and comprehensive way to see the city. Starting from the Akureyri Cruise Port, then Hof Cultural and Conference Center, the service runs every hour on the hour, perfectly timed to cater to the needs of cruise ship passengers. The entire loop is a concise 45 minutes, making it easy to get an overview of Akureyri’s key attractions without feeling rushed. Please note: The earliest departure is at 9:00 AM. If the bus fills up before that time, it may depart slightly earlier. If no cruise ships are scheduled to dock between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM, the first departure will be scheduled one hour after the next cruise ship arrives at the port. If your cruise ship arrives the night before, you can catch the first bus at 9:00 AM the following morning.

The bus route is good but the driver waited 25 extra minutes at the bus stop to sell tickets and therefore ran behind schedule for everyone. We only did the route once and ended up walking as the schedule was not consistent. The driver was nice enough but you really need to,stay on a schedule for a system like this

Don’t Hop On - Just Hop Off

This is not worth the money. There’s no real narrative, only a video on a tv screen that you can’t hear. It’s a very small town - you can easily walk the entire place from your ship!

No one seemed to know where the bus would pick us up. Once we located the correct spot, rest of the tour was very good. Good way to see where you wanted to dpend time. City Center was the best!

Nice but hard to locate stops.

Drop on/off points NOT marked on route. No location information available by cruise terminals. We had a very tough time locating this bus, given the fact that it only passes one once an hour. Good thing the bus is well marked.

This can unfortunately cause delays or confusion, especially when there are multiple tours and limited signage in the area. No hopping on or off!

Unfortunately, we never got to ride this bus because it never once showed up. We sat for over 2 hours at one of the stops waiting but it was a no-show. Tried again 50 minutes later and waited another hour; still a no-show. Walked around the town and STILL never saw it. Will be requesting a refund from Viator.

Waste of Time

2 cruise ships in port but only 1 bus was running the route. Waited 50 minutes for the bus to arrive at port and 35 minutes to board everyone. Got off at a stop. Then waited an hour for pickup but it didn't show up in that timeframe so we walked to a couple of the stops then walked back to the ship. I do not recommend this excursion. July 2025
