The experience was amazing! We saw three whales, some of them very close! In addition, the tours are very individual. Personally, I found the small groups much more pleasant than the large ships.

Exceptional service and very knowledgeable guides on this tour. They know exactly where and when to look when going near the areas of previous sightings. The locations are a hit or miss when it comes to sightings but you will have a blast to and from the dock. Would go back if we ever got the chance!

Overall fun experience even though we took the 9am tour which was the first tour of the day hoping to see Whales, but only saw a few fins, not that exciting. Very cold, wet and rough waters getting out there so expect to get wet! They provide great gear for all. Austin our guide was great, very informative. I will say the negative was that it was also suppose to be whales & puffins, but the puffins aspect of the tour was never addressed, so not sure if what happened with that (?) overall no regrets.

Regarding the puffins: We sincerely apologize that the puffin aspect of the tour was not clearly addressed. Please note that Puffin season is advertised from Mid-April to Mid-August. Outside of this period, our tours are fully focused on whale watching as the puffins have left their nesting grounds.
While our booking name remains the same, the focus of the trip shifts entirely outside of those four months. We are sorry you were not aware during the booking process, otherwise our guide would have properly addressed it.
We hope that despite the missing puffins, your adventure still provided great memories.

It was wonderful! We saw about 6 whales. Being in the RIB boat was good as it could move quick when a whale was spotted. Make sure you bring gloves and hat. It’s cold!

Best tour ever! We got so lucky to see a pod of pilot whales (there had to have been 20 or more) and saw 3 different humpback whales. One of the whales swam right up to our boat, which was crazy! Our guide Alessandra and our captain Danny were both extremely knowledgeable and wonderful to spend the tour with. Alessandra was able to give us tons of info about the different whales we saw. Danny was an expert at navigating the waves to make our Zodiac boat ride as smooth as possible. Overall, we were thrilled with our experience and feel so grateful to have seen so many whales! I have to also express how much I appreciated the respect our guide and captain had for the whales. They got us respectfully close to the whales and then turned off the engine of the boat and let the whales choose their path. I am a huge advocate for respecting nature and I really appreciated that they took that aspect of their job so seriously.

The guide and driver were nice and tried to find whales - we did see dolphins and a minke whale. Had they gone further up the coast, we saw more whales from the road, but I don’t blame them for that. We had 3 families on our tour and the guide easily could have arranged everyone in groups on the boat, but instead they made our family split up so that we were separated from our children. I thought that was rude and something easily fixable. Be warned that it is very cold and bumpy especially coming in and out, but we were prepared for that.

Regarding the whale sightings further up the coast, we adhere to strict operating zones for safety and time constraints, but we understand the frustration when the largest pods are just out of reach.
However, we must sincerely apologize for the seating arrangement that required your family to be separated from your children. This is absolutely not the experience we want for our guests. On our speed boats, the crew must occasionally make quick seating adjustments to distribute weight evenly for safety and stability or due to health issues. (especially when traveling at high speed in changing sea conditions).
While safety is paramount, we recognize that our team's communication could have been clearer, and the outcome left your family feeling separated and disappointed. We assure you that this was not done to be rude, but we understand why it felt that way, and we are deeply sorry for the distress it caused.
We will use this feedback to coach our crew on prioritizing family units and communicating more clearly when a temporary separation is unavoidable for safety reasons.

We had an excellent time on this tour! We booked the 9 am tour. I definitely recommend you wear warm layers, especially socks and gloves. The cold air makes it way up your pants too! We were able to see the puffin island, with tons of birds flying around and in the water, a large group of dolphins and a humpback whale breach multiple times. It was incredible! We also liked how small the boat was. You have a good view wherever you are seated compared to the larger vessels on other tours. Our two guides were so knowledgeable about all the birds, whales and dolphins!

Waited around all day for this tour after we drove 2 hours to get there and it was cancelled 30 minutes before. I know it was weather related but they could have cancelled hours earlier so we could have used our day to choose another activity.

Other travelers should know that the starting point in Husavik is 1 HOUR from the Akureyri Cruiseport where our Celebrity ship was docked. Viator reps kept telling me it was a 2 minute walk from the port WHICH IT'S NOT. We could not get to the starting point because Viator gave us MISINFORMATION about how far the Akureyri cruiseport was from Husavik, the starting point. We had no means of transportation to get there...and now they are refusing to refund our money...$335. We're livid.

We’d like to clarify that we are the local operator of the tour, but your booking was made through Viator, a third-party platform that manages its own listings and communications. Unfortunately, we have no control over the information that Viator customer service provides or how they describe locations.
However, on our tour description as it appears on Viator, the name of our company "Húsavík Adventures" and our exact starting point address in Húsavík are both clearly listed, also on the voucher you should have received after the purchase. Húsavík is approximately a 1-hour drive from the Akureyri cruise port, and we always recommend guests double-check the location and allow for transportation time, especially when arriving by cruise ship.
We truly regret that this wasn’t made clear to you during the booking process and that it led to you missing the tour. We recommend reaching out to Viator again and referencing this miscommunication, as they are responsible for their customer service.

We had a great trip on the boat in July 2025. We saw swarms of puffins (they never got too close to us), what we think was porpoises, dolphins and a couple of humpback whales. The boat trip itself was an exciting experience - be prepared for significant movement, particularly when the boat is going fast. The guide aboard was very pleasant and answered passengers’ questions.

Our guide was amazing! He was so knowledgeable and so excited to us getting to see whales. I told myself not to get my hopes up with have a sighting on our tour but we ended up seeing 2 whales coming in and out of that water for about 45 minutes. It was awesome. Would definitely recommend!

This was an incredible life changing experience. The boat ride itself was fun, but add in the close whale sightings, and it was epic. The larger ships were around with decks full of observers, while we were able to zip around as another whale would surface. We were so close with one, my husband took a selfie. The guide was very informative about whales and knew how to find the best sighting spots. I would highly recommend!

You will get wet and bring your gloves. This was a great adventure to see puffins and humpback whales. The boat ride was great also. The staff was friendly and informative. We highly recommend.

The process was good and the staff were very friendly, but I think the speedboat could actually get closer to the whales, because the whales would come up to the water four times a day, and it would take some time to get there, but if the speedboat could go there immediately, it would be possible to catch the whales from a closer distance.

We appreciate your feedback regarding the potential for the speedboat to get closer to the whales. We understand that the speed of the RIB boat makes it seem possible to follow their movements instantly.
However, our approach is guided by a strict Code of Conduct (aligned with Ice Whale guidelines) to ensure the animals are not disturbed, as the summer time is crucial for them to feed and build up energy for winter.
Here is how our approach works, based on distance from the whales:
Search Zone (>300m): We actively look for signs of whales, using the RIB's speed to cover ground efficiently and minimize travel time.
Approach Zone (<300m): We significantly reduce speed and only approach animals from the side (never head-on or from the back).
Caution Zone (<100m): The captain slows the boat further or turns the propeller off. We then wait and let the curious animals choose to approach us. This ensures we achieve thrilling, close encounters while respecting their space and minimizing stress.
If an animal appears distressed (by trying to swim away, for example), our crew knows it is time to move away. We also aim to spend no longer than 20–30 minutes with a single animal to minimize our impact.
We hope this explanation clarifies why we use the RIB's speed to find the whales quickly, but then prioritize ethical, respectful viewing distance (even if it means we don't always race right up to where they surface).

They take you on the water, stop to see the puffins home and provide you with some informative information. Then we had a chance to see a couple families of white nosed dolphins, and 4 whales on the trip! One of the best tours I have ever done!

Fantastic tour! I was nervous for the zodiac but was quickly calmed with the seating. We all got great arctic suits that were warm and comfortable. Our guide and captain kept our tour moving smoothly. We were able to see thousands of puffins flying, diving, and playing in the ocean. They were able to locate 7 humpback whales hunting. The captain kept us with the two groups a great amount of time while making sure our presence was limited to not disturb the whales too much. It was a once in a lifetime experience for sure!

Fantastic tour! The boat ride itself was an adventure but seeing humpback whales and puffins was thrilling. It was very cold but we were well-equipped with our own gear and the provided suits. Highly recommend this one in a lifetime tour!
