Your tour begins through Monument Valley's natural attractions.
With your guide, make your first stop at John Ford's Point, where some of John Wayne's western movies were filmed, as well as 'Transformers: Age of Extinction.' Then head into the backcountry area of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park to see the Sun's Eye Arch. Standing here at a specific degree, you can look into the rock arch to find out how it got its name. Also at this location, check out petroglyphs from the Anasazi people and listen to stories from your guide.
Then continue to the Big Hogan, another natural feature that's a favorite photo op site, before stopping at your last backcountry attraction, the Ear of the Wind, the largest arch in the park.
Next, head to the Totem Pole for more photo ops and to hear about their cultural histories, and then visit the North Window, where you can admire the Mitten Butte from a different perspective. Your tour then ends with return to your departure point.
Please note: Guides are locals who have been praised for their storytelling skills and are first aid- and CPR-certified. Water is available but it's recommended that you bring your own snacks and other necessities.

Great time! Our guide John, was fun! He was knowledgeable and was concerned that we had a great time
The Navajo Guide (Joseph) was excellent. Learn a lot about the Monument Valley and the Navajo life from him
Excellent 2.5 hour tour of Monument Valley. Our tour guide Joseph was great! He shared stories about the history of the area that really enhanced the overall experience. He also took time to assist our group with getting some wonderful photos during the tour. Will definitely book the longer tour the next time we are in the area.
This was a great guided trip. Joe was an excellent tour guide. He was very clear describing all the sites in the valley. He let us take our time at each site. I loved being in the group. We stopped at Linda’s fry bread & had a bite to eat. It was a great tour.
Joe was fantastic, he told us all about the area and how native Americans lived then and now, including his experiences
Joe was a terrific guide. His experience with taking pictures gave us some of the best! The scenery is phenomenal. The ride is bumpy and a little dusty but more enjoyable than driving yourself.
Well Organised & good briefing - access was limited due to previous days weather but this was communicated immediately & refund offered. There was minor change to our route so it really didn’t matter.
Absolutely incredible tour with our Navajo guide, Joseph. Fascinating hearing about the Navajo history and culture. Our guide even played the drum and sang for us. Added bonus, he’s an amazing photographer! Highly recommend this tour.
Be sure to research tour group companies. We were fortunate to have a Dine' Navajo guide named Mike.
This was definitely worth it. You get to see parts inaccessible to regular cars driving through and John explained a lot of history and details about the Valley. He was a very friendly guide and took good pictures and was happy to accommodate our group.
Wonderful tour! Joseph was an amazing tour guide. Very informative and fun! The most memorable experience! Highly recommend!
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. John was an amazing guide. Provided lots of interesting details about the Navajo nation and all the formations we saw. Went the extra mile including a unique experience with Navajo music, taking photos and assistance in taking our own pictures. Highly recommend John and this tour.
There are multiple tour groups in parking area. Is NOT the blue shack Is in area to right and below stairs.
Guide John was great !
John was very personable amd gave a great tour. Informative and full of cultural insight. He also made a point to recommend some camera angles and using mud puddles to capture reflection shots.
It’s breathtaking and a lot of fun and our tour guide John was very open about the Navajo people and shared many traditions. Thanks, John.
It was wonderful and the guide Joseph and was very good and knowledgeable my wife enjoyed the information and stories that he gave
Monument Valley is amazingly beautiful! Our driver guide, John, was even more amazing. He was so knowledgeable about the geology, history, flora and fawns and was willing to share info about the Navajo nation and its culture. The tour was wonderful, and I highly recommend it. It was a delightful experience. Thank you, John!!!
You an only see Big Hogan and the Ear of the wind with a tour guide and our was phenomenol (JOHN) . He played a traditional Indian Flute and shared all sorts of information about the area.
The company is great
Took us early on our tour. Even thought our tour was closed do to rain. We still got a wonderful tour.
Our guide was great
This tour is amazing. Our guide Joe was so knowledgeable and personable. The 2.5 hours passed quickly. We recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see monument valley.
Monument Valley backcountry tour was jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring, and constantly surprising. Our guide Joseph was kind, peaceful, and excellent with his communication. Very informed and informative.
Our guide Joseph was very friendly and informative. He also had great photo tips. We were on a 9am tour and had perfect weather. Would highly recommend this tour for people visiting.
Amazing experience. Don’t hesitate- sign up for this tour. John was the best tour guide. So many stories and interesting facts
Try to get very good information on exactly where you will meet your driver and vehicle. Once we had found our tour company the tour itself went super smooth. I think it may vary according to the actual driver / tour guide. We fell on our feet with our guide Tai. He was excellent and really went the extra mile for us. The views and experience were amazing.
Our group was running alittle behind, road construction, I called ahead they were gracious to us and had another vehicle take us to the group we were to be with. This was my second time with this company, they wonderful and we had a great time!
Fantastic! John was amazing! Such a great experience - took us into Monument Valley, told us about the culture and history of the Navajo people and the land. Whole family was riveted - absolutely 100% would recommend!
So glad we booked the tour rather than trying to complete the drive ourselves. This is off road, full stop, and not worth risking the rental car. In addition the tour guide told you plenty throughout and took us off the main road meaning we could stop at some arches and an awesome sand dune to run up. Great tour!
The tour was amazing! Joesph was informative and inspirational! He took time to take photos of each group and the pics were beautiful!
This was a fantastic experience, made
even better by our tour host Joseph. He was knowledgeable, funny, and a great assist in taking beautiful photographs.
My family (4 adults, 3 kids and 2 infants) enjoyed the tour greatly! Our guide was Vonne, she was great! It was a hot 93 degree morning, but there was enough shade in the tour vehicle and the breeze when moving was refreshing. We were able to use our car seats for the infants which was great, because holding them would have been very hot.
