Beauty of art in motion

After a stellar “Real Hidden Venice” tour with Sebastian’s in Venice, we were thrilled when we arrived at our meeting point for this tour and found him again. Guiding us for a second day, he was as engaging and knowledgeable about this nearby islands as he was about Venice proper. Our favorite had to be the beautiful art of glass making. A lifetime of work by master artisans who craft breathtaking pieces with ease and precision in ways that are difficult to comprehend without seeing them in action. Walking through the showroom is an immersive and enlightening experience in what in means to be a true master. They are very much painters of glass. We were all in awe. We continued on to Burano where we learned about the history of the colorful landscape and the almost lost art of lace making. By exposing ourselves to these generational trades, we felt closer to understanding the full depth of what it means to be Venetian, even today. We highly recommend this tour.

We had an incredible full-day tour of Venice and Murano with Matteo! From the moment we met him, he was warm, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing the history and culture of Venice. He took us through beautiful hidden corners of the city that we never would have found on our own, while also covering the iconic landmarks in a way that felt personal and engaging. The Murano portion of the tour was a highlight — watching the glass-blowing demonstration was fascinating, and Matteo gave us great insight into the island’s traditions and craftsmanship. What really made the experience special was how relaxed and customized the day felt. Matteo was attentive, patient, and full of great recommendations. You can tell he truly loves what he does. The value of a semi-private tour with an experienced guide.

Venice's St. Mark Square, St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace are "must sees." The question for us was how much time we wanted to allow for "seeing and standing in line." We decided to do a semi-private (7) tour with Francesca of LivTours as our guide. I had limitations with stair-climbing and standing for log blocks of time. When we met, Francesca had already planned for my needs in the Bacilica and the Palace. We accesed both through private entrances. The Palace had an elevator and Francesca provided a "guardian angel" to escourt me to where the group was meeting on each floor of the building. Plus, there was a special exhibition in the Doge's personal quarters that only I got to see on the way to/from the elevator. Francesca was very knowlegeable and answered every question our group had. She tied Venetian history together with paintings and other art we saw, and was obviously proud of her heritage. But, my husband I will long remember her timing of the tour, and the special care for my needs that made the semi-private tour well worth the cost. Thanks Viator and LivTour.

We thoroughly enjoyed our private Murano tour. The boat ride over was smooth, we were met by Andre who showed us the behind the scenes process with the glass master. We toured the shop and selected some beautiful pieces to be shipped back home. Our guide, Camilla, was exceptional. She shared great info about the art, history, culture and pride of the Venetian people.

Time flies when you are having fun! Be flexible, but arrive with a plan in mind.

As it is a private tour, you can set the agenda and pace within the tour’s time limits, of course. It is helpful to know in advance how you would like to spend your time, whether visiting the church, watching a glass demonstration, shopping, or eating, as time passes very quickly. Please note there is no reminder about dress requirements when visiting churches, so it is best to come prepared. Remember to cover your knees and shoulders if you wish to visit religious sites.

We were a large group, and he waited for us to retranslate everything he said. We had two senior citizens with us, and he adjusted the pace to their needs.
