Ray was an incredibly knowledgeable and attentive host. This tour includes van travel from two choices of pickup to the Favela and a return trip after the tour. The tour introduces a more positive view of the favela. I felt safe throughout the trip thanks to the system in place and attentiveness of our guide and guard. They warned us when phones and other potential recording devices had to be kept out of site. I would recommend bringing good walking shoes and extra cash to either donate to the various organizations you are welcomed to or to purchase drinks and snacks during the tour. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to see and experience an important cultural aspect of Brazil and Rio.

This is a must do when in Rio. If you love hiking and going on an adventure, you will love this hike. Victor was our guide and he was amazing. I am always apprehensive about group tours. I feel like you are herded around, barked at, provided no freedom to tour the sites, and overcharged. This was not the case with this tour. From the moment we started, our guide, Gabi, was knowledgeable, witty, and affable in the way she balanced all the different personalities in the group. I never felt rushed. She provided a ton of great information, but it didn’t feel like Social Studies class. She was funny, but she wasn’t trying too hard to be funny. I am more inclined to take part in a tour like this moving forward, but I know I won’t get a guide like Gabi again.

Beautiful Introduction to Rio

We spent the day with Gustavo from Viator, who “hosted” our entire first day in Rio very well. It took a long time to get through the lines on the way to Christ the Redeemer but Gustavo shaved at least an hour from the wait time by negotiating “standing room” seats on the train to the top, which was pretty brilliant. We then drove to Copacabana beach which was gorgeous and to a very local vendor to buy tee shirts for the grandkids (great deal!). Gustavo took us to lunch at a local restaurant in Santa Theresa (Armazem San Joaquim) with a marvelous Samba musician. We wrapped up the day with a tour of the Metropolitan Cathedral. It was a wonderful start to our Rio experience!

Flying over Rio de Janeiro by helicopter was hands down one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Seeing the city from above is something words can barely describe, the views of the coastline, the mountains, and the city itself were simply breathtaking. Everything felt professional and safe from start to finish. The pilot was friendly, calm, and clearly very experienced, which made the whole experience even better. Taking off and soaring above such an iconic city gave me chills, it’s a totally different perspective of Rio that you just can’t get from the ground. Recommend this tour if you have limited time in Rio. Our Tour Guide Ursula was excellent knowledge of the subjects. We had a tour through one of the favela, all the top sights and some additional ones like the maracana Stadium. It was a long day extremely enjoyable.
