    Afro Brazilian History Tour

    Colleen_B, Sep 2025
Carolina, our tour guide, was outstanding! She has a deep knowledge of Afro-Brazilian history, and we were able to learn so much in just four hours. She was warm, personable, and full of positive energy. What stood out most was her compassion—she thoughtfully adjusted the tour so that my family member, who couldn’t manage all the walking, was still able to fully experience it. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in the rich and vibrant Afro-Brazilian heritage. Thank you, Carolina!

    Best tour of Rio!!

    Frances_B, Aug 2025
Emily this was the best tour I have been on across continents and travels in the last 15 years. The knowledge and passion for Rio’s history and the history of black people in Rio was so interesting, inspiring and Marianne’s sharp mind, wit, depth and knowledge shone. My husband was entranced and isn’t normal that keen on history but loved this tour, it brought Rio to life, helped see beyond the obvious and feel connected to a place we have never visited before. I felt safe to ask even the most obvious question and we visited a part of Rio no guide book would have directed us to. Loved it, wish I was a travel influencer who could tell lots of people about it!!!

My excursion has been rescheduled. They are due to have an English interpreter available on Friday morning. So I cannot give an accurate review as of yet.

    Response from Host, Mar 2025

Hi, dear. Thank you for understanding the rescheduling. Unfortunately, our guide fell suddenly ill, and we weren’t able to find a replacement on such short notice. Our deepest apologies for that. Now that the tour has taken place, we’re eagerly waiting for your feedback! We truly hope we provided you with a great experience despite the initial inconvenience. Looking forward to hearing you!

    Don't sleep on this

    Ayanna_M, Jan 2025
We really enjoyed this tour, so much that we believe it should be a must see like the Christ and Sugarloaf. Our tour guide was amazing and very knowledgeable about presenting what black culture is like in Brazil. He also teaches and brought us to a location that he teaches at ,even though the place was closed for the holiday. We still were able to take some beautiful pictures outside the location before moving on to the museum. The whole time I was comparing the similarities and differences of blacks in the USA. I was pleased to meet some of the VIP associated with the museum and that was a really great experience. I don't want to give out too many details and spoil it for anyone, so I'll just summarize and say that we found it to be just as significant of a tour as the 2 main Rio attractions (Christ/Sugar).

    Response from Host, Jan 2025

Thank you, Ayanna, for your insightful feedback! We definitely need to emphasize the significance of these sites, and testimonials like yours are the perfect way to do so! Thank you so much!!

    Carol was great!

    Melanie_J, Sep 2024
Carol was an absolutely wonderful and thoughtful guide. I was traveling with my older relatives ( mid-late 70's) and she paced the tour perfectly. She also did a wonderful job of explaining the things we saw and the information in the museums. Carol was very articulate and thorough during this experience.

    Response from Host, Sep 2024

Melanie, thank you for this amazing review! We're happy to know ☺️ you all have enjoyed the tour!

    Absolutely book with them!!

    Shantae_M, Aug 2024
Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and fun. I wish we would have done this tour our first day like we originally planned but our flight was delayed. We would have definitely gone back to revisit some of the spots. The company worked with us to rebook because we missed our first reservation. They are wonderful ❤️ highly recommend!

    Response from Host, Sep 2024

Shantae, thank you for the review! Come back soon!!!

    Must experience tour!!!

    Ken_S, Aug 2024
The Little Africa Tour lived up to our expectations as it was very informative and very enjoyable to learn about slavery from a different perspective than what was taught in America. Our tour guide was excellent and while English was her second language she did an excellent job is delivering the information. Definitely pack comfortable shoes as there is a considerable amount of walking(as well as a short tram ride) but it wasn’t overwhelming. From the meeting point to the very last stop, the experience was well worth it. My only suggestion would be to try to do this tour in the AM instead of the 2 pm start time as towards the end it started to get dark and our pictures weren’t the best with lighting.

    Response from Host, Sep 2024

Thank you for the review! About the time...We have this option for private groups, but we've notice that it's not the best for most of the visitors, once the heat is too much (in Rio it's over 40ºC) and people at this time normally get starving soon. We could stop for the lunchtime, but the restaurants are closer to the end of the tour. As a result, most of the visitors aren't able to pay attention anymore for being exhausted and starving. After 2PM the sun goes down, people are already fed and relax to walk and focus on history. That's why the tour is preferably in the afternoon. But we really appreciate your review! Every experience for us has a great importance for the improvement of our services! Thank you so much!

The heart and soul of a people never broken

    devera_b, Aug 2024
The subject matter of this tour can be polarizing for some but this tour was handled very professionally without compromising the truth or reality of the inhumanity of the slave times of the past past ch that still cast a shadow of institutional inequality in today's times.

    Response from Host, Sep 2024

Thanks for the review! For sure it'll motivate other people to come and discover the little África in Rio!

The History in Brazil is so Rich!

    Lindsay_T, Aug 2024
I really enjoyed the Little Africa Tour!! The history was very rich and informative. I felt very connected with the community by going on this tour. I learned a lot about the different African countries that came to Brazil and a lot of lives were sacrificed for freedom and a better world for generations to come!

    Response from Host, Sep 2024

    Thanks for coming!!!

    Afro-Brazilian History is a Necessity!

    Allen_S, Mar 2024
Carolina was EXCEPTIONAL! My wife and I really appreciate how thorough, and knowledgeable she was about the entire Afro-Brazilian experience and heritage. She showed immense passion in presenting the information on culture, neighborhoods, and history…both happy and dark scenarios, to educate us on important information.

    Response from Host, Apr 2024

It's so great having this amazing feedback! Thank you for coming and being involved by our history & team!

    Great tour

    Nanette_T, Jan 2024
We had Val as our guide and he was incredible! He spoke English well enough and taught us a lot about the African Brazilian culture and history. He even took us to a few places that we had missed on a previous tour because they were closed. We really enjoyed this tour and our guide Val. Thanks Val for a great day! I highly recommend!

    Response from Host, Jan 2024

Nanette, we are happy and proud about your review!! Thank you so much for coming! We hope see you soon in Brazil again!! Happy 2024!
