When in Rio

Ask for Gustavo!! He is charismatic, has lots of energy and tells great stories. He also gives good dining recommendations. His advice gave us time to see it all, listen to him. All the sites were great, we even went to the church with the stained glass windows, beautiful inside. Christ the Redeemer, amazing, definitely must see. Steps are an insta must do. It was very cloudy when we went to Sugarloaf but I can imagine the views. Riding the cart is cool.

Overall, the tour was great and we would recommend it. We specifically chose the afternoon (1:00 PM) pick up because many reviews suggested it was the best option for catching sunset at Sugarloaf Mountain, which was one of the highlights we were looking forward to. We visited Christ the Redeemer first and spent quite a bit longer there than expected, which resulted in us completely missing sunset at Sugarloaf. Sunset was mentioned as part of the experience, and it was clear that many people in our group, not just us, were hoping to see it. By the time we arrived at Sugarloaf, it was already close to dark. While the nighttime views were still beautiful, we also encountered the large crowds that had come for sunset and ended up waiting over an hour in lines just to get back down the mountain. That said, the tour itself was enjoyable, the sights were incredible, and it was a great way to see Rio. I would just recommend future travelers confirm the timing if catching the sunset at Sugarloaf is an important part of the experience for them.

Ray was an incredibly knowledgeable and attentive host. This tour includes van travel from two choices of pickup to the Favela and a return trip after the tour. The tour introduces a more positive view of the favela. I felt safe throughout the trip thanks to the system in place and attentiveness of our guide and guard. They warned us when phones and other potential recording devices had to be kept out of site. I would recommend bringing good walking shoes and extra cash to either donate to the various organizations you are welcomed to or to purchase drinks and snacks during the tour. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to see and experience an important cultural aspect of Brazil and Rio.

See the natural side of Rio!

This tour was great! The hike up to the viewpoint in the park was easy, and we saw a ton of wildlife along the way. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and pointed out many different animals and plants. Once we made it to the top, we were rewarded with great views (where the clouds allowed). After that, we went to several waterfalls in another part of the park. The last stop on the weekend was a cave. That hike was only about 20 minutes, but I will say it was more difficult as it was rocky and slippery. If you're not wearing the right shoes for it, it might be difficult.

Amazing Experience

The Roxy Dinner Show was an incredible experience. Fine dining and a spectacular show let us experience an entirely different side of Rio. When we arrived, we were greeted by a photographer for a pre-show photo. We were then escorted to our seat right in front of the stage. The service is on the level of what you expect at any Michelin level restaurant. Dinner was a three course meal and you could choose from different options on the menu. I chose the salad, filet mignon, and chocolate dessert. Each course tasted delightful. The show was fantastic. The show highlights the cultural history and different areas of Brazil. 10/10 show. After the show, we were able to do a meet and greet with some of the performers and take photos with them. I definitely recommend adding this to any itinerary for Rio

So worth it…

The experience was so beautiful and so worth it. My sister did hang gliding with Ricardo and I did paragliding with another person (I forgot his name) but both people were so nice and welcoming. Great overview of the main sights around Rio. The majority of people on the tour spoke Spanish or Portuguese, my wife and I were the only English speakers, but the tour guide did an excellent job explaining everything in English in addition to the other languages.
