10/10 hike! The views were beautiful and the hike was good. Our guide, Eric, was fantastic! He was so knowledgeable and we learned so much about the rainforest. I was so impressed how much he knew! He also gave us very good recommendations for Rio and told us a lot about the city. One of the best tour guides we've ever had!

A great escape from Rio...an outstanding tour and guide!!

Debra_W, Aug 2026
We had a fabulous time on our tour of the Tijuca Rainforest. Our guide, Fabio, was exceptional not only for his knowledge of the rainforest, the birds, sighting a sloth for us, alerting us to the presence of multiple kinds of monkeys but also in sharing his personal experiences in owning lands where he, himself, is reforesting the land. Truly amazing to hear all that has been done to create this forest from a coffee field through the years and have so many diverse species of plants, trees, birds and animals. I highly recommend Fabio as a guide and Itaway Ecotours for their perfect execution of the tour. Obigada!!

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful review! It means a lot to us to hear how much you enjoyed not only the beauty and wildlife of Tijuca Rainforest, but also the stories behind its incredible reforestation journey. We’re especially happy that Fabio’s passion, knowledge, and personal experience with reforestation added something special to your experience. Spotting a sloth and several species of monkeys along the way must have made the day even more memorable! We truly appreciate your kind words about Fabio and our team. Thank you for exploring the forest with us, and we hope to see you again in Rio!

Rainy hike through Tijuana: SUCCESS

Kassandra_H, Aug 2026
We went hiking while it was raining and foggy but I never felt afraid because of our AMAZING guide. He stopped in every spot that might be difficult for beginner hikers and helped us all navigate the trail safely. Our guide was Victor and if I ever have another chance to take a tour with him I’d love it because he was knowledgeable not only about how to hike safely but the history of the rainforest too. Bonus was that he spoke English and a variety of other languages too!

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re so happy to hear that Victor made you feel safe and confident throughout the hike. Rain and fog can bring a special kind of magic to the rainforest, and it sounds like you got to experience Tijuca at its most atmospheric! His care on the more challenging parts of the trail, combined with his knowledge of the rainforest, is exactly what makes a great guide. We also really value having bilingual guides so everyone can feel comfortable, connected, and fully enjoy the experience. We hope to welcome you back soon!

Good Hike

Nancy_K, Aug 2026
It was very nice hike but there was an areas where you need to be physically active to be able to do it . If you’re older than 65 years old and not physically active then it is not recommended. Also, if you want to take this hike, do it in the morning so that you will be able to see see some animals.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you for your review! We’re glad you had a nice time on the hike. Just to clarify, our tour page states that the experience is suitable for adults aged 13–60, and that travelers should have a moderate level of physical fitness. As everyone’s fitness level is different, the difficulty of the hike can vary from person to person. Regarding wildlife, the animals roam freely in the forest, so sightings are never guaranteed. They choose when to make an appearance, regardless of the time of day. We appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you again!

Wonderful day in the forest of Rio!

Gene_F, Aug 2026
I had an amazing day this last full day in Rio. This tour was great. Just being outside in nature give you sort of a reset from all the hustle of life. Eric our guide was great! He made sure the group was together and ask what we wanted to do and as a group, we all decided to do all the extra added hikes so we can experience the forest more. The cave was amazing to see as was a couple waterfalls we saw. Some of the group went in the falls to get refreshed before we headed to Vista Chinese where the view of the city was the best. From this vista, you can Christ the Redeemer as well as Sugarloaf Mountain from here. We didn’t see any wildlife until the very end where we saw couple toucans and several monkeys! This was a treat as we probably gave up in seeing anything, but we did! We had a great group and together with a great guide makes for an amazing experience. Thank you all for making this tour fun!

I loved this hike! Our tour guide Eric was very knowledgeable about the wildlife in the area and even had tips on other lesser-known trails with great sights - and he can tell you about them in three languages! Would recommend this tour to anyone traveling solo or with a group especially if you are into nature, history, and local culture in Rio. Thanks Eric!

Perfect escape from busy Rio

Alyssa_L, Jul 2026
A perfect escape from the hustle of Rio’s city and beaches. I booked this last minute walking tour for my final day in Rio. I’m so glad I did. Lucas, my guide was the great! He was enthusiastic, welcoming and very knowledgeable about the native flora and fauna of the rainforest. Our driver was nice and safe as well. The van was clean and comfortable. The Tijuca rainforest was stunning. We saw some animals hiding in their natural habitat as well as native berries and medicinal foliage. It was such a peaceful afternoon. The cherry on top was the surprise final stop on the drive back to see the sunset glow with the mountains. Absolutely amazing. Thank you Lucas for a great tour of the rainforest!

Great tour. Victor the tour guide was amazing. Not very challenging the walk, but still great exercise and excitement. Went by myself, and there were about 7 other solo travelers, as well as a group of friends, and a family. So it's welcoming to all people, regardless of size of your group or solo. I made great friends during this tour.

The jungle was great and Victor our tour guide was clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about the Tijuca rain forest as well. We saw a lot of wild life including birds, sloths, monkeys and some other animals. The trail we went on was just the right level of difficulty for an enjoyable short experience through the area. We hope to welcome you back to Rio for another adventure soon!

Good but more strenuous hike then described

michelleleerae, Jun 2026
The tour guide was good and it was a good experience, but it was not exactly what was described. It was a pretty strenuous 2+ hour which is not really clear in the description. Also there were two caves that were dark and closed in that were explored. I think it would help if the physical activity were more clear in the description.

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Thank you for the feedback! We're glad you enjoyed the experience overall. Difficulty is subjective and varies from person to person — most guests describe the hike as easy to moderate, but we'll work on making expectations clearer on our page. As for the caves, they are part of the advertised itinerary — the darkness and enclosed atmosphere are all part of what makes them so special!

A great experience

Christina_T, Jun 2026
Really loved getting outside the city and seeing the Tijuca Forest! Leo was an excellent guide, full of information, and I really appreciated his efforts to help us spot wildlife (we didn’t see a sloth, but we certainly tried! Obviously nothing in nature is guaranteed but I always appreciate when guides make an effort regardless). I’d consider the hike moderate leaning toward ease, but be prepared to sweat a little. Even in the rain the forest provides enough shelter to avoid getting too drenched though you may want a rain jacket or poncho for the view at the top. The swim under the waterfalls was optional and would have been easy to use a nearby restroom to change into a bathing suit but we opted out because it was too cold. Overall, highly recommend this tour if you like nature, history, and getting away from the city for a day.

Response from Host, Jun 2026

We are really happy to know you enjoyed getting out of the city and exploring the Tijuca Forest with Leo! He will be glad to hear your kind words about his guidance and the effort to make the experience engaging throughout the hike :) Even when wildlife stays hidden, the forest itself always has so much to offer, and it is great to know you still appreciated the atmosphere, the views, and the overall journey. A bit of rain is all part of the rainforest experience, and we are glad it did not take away from your enjoyment. We hope to see you again on another adventure in Rio!

utstanding Guide Turns a Rainy Day into a Memorable Local Experience

Johnny_C, May 2026
This tour was one of the highlights of the trip, even with some rain during the experience. The guide, David, truly made the difference and ensured the group had an enjoyable and memorable time regardless of the weather. David was extremely knowledgeable about the forest, including its history and how it has evolved due to human impact. He also knew exactly where to stop for the best photo opportunities, which added a lot of value to the experience. At the end of the tour, he went a step further by recommending local spots to visit in the city. These suggestions helped save money and led to discovering unique places that felt more authentic and were not typical tourist spots. Overall, this tour is highly recommended, and travelers should feel comfortable asking David for additional advice on excursions or things to do in the area—his local insight is a major highlight of the experience.

Response from Host, May 2026

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this! A little rain in the rainforest is all part of the magic, and we are so glad it did not stop your group from having a memorable experience. That is the Tijuca Forest doing what it does best! David is exactly the kind of guide who makes a tour unforgettable, and hearing that his expertise, local tips, and genuine care for the group stood out means a lot to us. We will be sure to let him know! We hope to see you back in Rio for another adventure soon!

I was glad to do this trail as an excursion because it would have felt hard to follow on your own. Our guide Victor was amazing! He took the time to individually help everyone cross challenging parts in the trail, including scrambling down a cave. It was a nice surprise that we made a gas station stop for snacks and the bathroom before entering the park. We got to see a sloth from a distance and lots of monkeys up close. The Chinesa Viewpoint at the very end was a beautiful panoramic lookout over the city. Well worth it!

Response from Host, May 2026

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! We are so glad to hear that the trail felt accessible and enjoyable with Victor by your side. He has a wonderful way of making sure every guest feels supported, and it is great to know that came through for your group. Those wildlife encounters and the view from the Chinese Viewpoint are always special moments, and we love hearing that they made an impression. We hope to welcome you back on another adventure with us soon :)

They will change the pickup window last minute and then leave if you are not there within 5 minutes. They will not come back to get you, refund, and MIGHT only offer a reschedule where you have to pay a 50% surcharge. Ridiculous

Response from Host, May 2026

Your pickup time was communicated the day before. Our tour page clearly states that pickups operate within a fixed window — you arrived 15 minutes late. With multiple pickups per tour, punctuality is essential as any delay impacts the entire group. It is the guest's responsibility to check tour updates ahead of time, just as you would for flights, and any other travel arrangements. We offered a complimentary reschedule as an exceptional gesture, which was not taken up.

It is not an easy walk thru the forest. There are numerous steps and a fairly steep climb. Not for someone who has difficulty walking. The guide Eric was wonderful in helping me traverse the steps. The driver was also great as I did not do the last part of the trip and he showed me the waterfall and various other interesting sites.

Thank you so much! What an adventure — completing this trail at 83 is truly remarkable and you should be very proud. Eric and the driver were delighted to make it work for you. We do recommend this tour for guests in moderate physical shape, but your spirit made every step worth it. Hope to welcome you back soon!
