Davide was our guide. He was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We appreciated his authenticity in sharing his journey to wine tourism. The first Quinta we went to is a small-batch producer, 5th generation winemakers. The have award-winning wines and ports. The boat trip was as advertised: 45 minutes up & down the Duoro River to view the terraced vineyards. Our small group joined many others, so that wasn’t a small group experience. The second Quinta was also a small-batch producer. We had a lovely homemade traditional meal with starters, salad, slow-cooked pork, and a flan-like dessert that was a cousin of pastel de nata (without the pastry shell). We also enjoyed our stop in Aramente to walk through the small town and see the historic church.

Great experience, INCREDIBLE guide!

Increíble experience on the water with Paulo. Paulo has spent his life on the Douro River and is a wealth of information. Before we set sail they gave us some sunscreen to use as they could tell we would need it. That was so kind! Paulo was amazing. He answered all our questions and provided a lot of context about Porto. He also knew when we were enjoying our company and never intruded. We experienced so much of Porto’s history from the water. The Vino Verde and almonds were an added bonus. This is a must do experience and there is no one better to guide you than Paulo!

Enjoying a perfect day!

This was an excellent trip. Our guide grew up in the region and was very knowledgeable about the history and the wine culture development. The wine tasting stop was unique and not a typical tourist stop. Lunch was excellent. We were lucky to have a smaller than typical group which maybe enhanced the experience. Our guide bought tangerines from a local farmer which were the best we ever had. A great day!

Our guided day trip from Porto to Braga and Guimarães was one of the highlights of our stay in Portugal. Everything was perfectly organized — comfortable transport, well-paced schedule, and a guide Tania who truly brought the history to life. What made the experience special was the balance: enough guided insight to understand the places, but also free time to explore, take photos, and enjoy the atmosphere at our own pace. Highly recommend this tour if you want to see more of northern Portugal without the stress of planning — it’s effortless, enriching, and genuinely beautiful.

We were told about interesting sites along the way. There were beautiful scenery all along the cruise. A great lunch was served, with abundant beverages. The most interesting event for me, was the experience of going through two sets of locks where the river elevation dropped about 50 feet, each time. Over all, it was a very pleasant experience. I wholeheartedly recommend this cruise over the short bridge cruises. The nicest advantage of this cruise is that, you have a choice of being outside when you choose or inside in climate controlled comfort.

Not to be missed

What can I say, our Duoro valley tour with Bruno is one we will never forget! Bruno is passionate about what he does and takes great pride in growing up in the Porto region. The tour was a very full agenda: my son and I took an easy ride from Porto out to Duoro valley, stopped for some great photos, took a relaxed river cruise (with plenty of vino verde), two vineyard visits which were both spectacular, enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the top at a restaurant with epic views of the valley, all while learning a great deal about the region and its history. I would’ve kicked myself if this wasn’t part of my travel itinerary. I can’t wait to visit again and I will request another tour with Bruno. Great day all around.

Be prepared to do a lot...

Be prepared to do a lot of walking up and done hills as well as climbing stairs. We walked about 5 miles the day we went. Our tour leader Pedro was VR knowledgeable about the area and told us which sites that were worth visiting and suggested places to eat to enjoy authentic Portugese food. The wine tasting host was excellent.
