Some facts about Mt Fuji
Here are some fascinating facts about Mount Fuji:
🗻 1. Japan's Tallest Mountain
Mount Fuji stands at 3,776 metres (12,389 feet), making it the highest mountain in Japan.
🌋 2. It Is an Active Volcano
Although it looks serene, Mount Fuji is an active volcano. Its last eruption, known as the Hōei Eruption, occurred in 1707–1708 and covered parts of present-day Tokyo with volcanic ash.
🏔️ 3. Not One, But Three Volcanoes
Geologists believe Mount Fuji was formed by the overlapping activity of three successive volcanoes over hundreds of thousands of years.
🚅 4. It Can Be Seen From Tokyo
On exceptionally clear days, Mount Fuji is visible from parts of Tokyo, about 100 km away.
🎨 5. An Artistic Superstar
Mount Fuji has inspired countless artists, most famously Katsushika Hokusai, whose famous series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji includes the iconic "Great Wave."
🚶 6. Hundreds of Thousands Climb It
During the official climbing season (July–September), hundreds of thousands of people ascend Fuji, many starting at night to witness the spectacular Goraikō (sunrise from the summit).
🗾 7. A UNESCO World Heritage Site
In 2013, Mount Fuji was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site—not primarily for geology, but for its profound cultural and spiritual significance.
⛩️ 8. A Sacred Mountain
For centuries, Fuji has been revered in the Japanese faith tradition. Pilgrims often visited shrines around its base before attempting the ascent.
❄️ 9. The Snow Cap Isn't Permanent
Contrary to many postcards, Mount Fuji is not snow-covered year-round. Snow usually appears in autumn and melts significantly during summer.
📏 10. Almost Perfectly Symmetrical
Its remarkably symmetrical cone is one reason it is considered among the most beautiful mountains in the world. However, careful observation reveals subtle irregularities caused by past eruptions.
🏃 11. There Is a Race Around It
The annual Fuji Around-the-Mountain Race covers roughly 100 km around the mountain's base—far more exhausting than simply admiring it from a hot spring!
💰 12. Climbing Was Once Free
Historically, climbing Fuji was free. Today, climbers are generally asked to pay a conservation fee to help preserve trails and facilities.
🌍 13. Fuji Has Its Own Weather
The summit can be 20°C or more colder than the surrounding lowlands, and weather can change dramatically within minutes.
🎩 A Curious Comparison
Mount Fuji is so culturally important to Japan that it appears in art, literature, school textbooks, tourism campaigns, company logos, and even on Japanese currency and stamps. Few mountains anywhere in the world enjoy such iconic status.

Great way to see Mount Fuji
The guide and driver were really helpful and friendly. The pace of the tour was relaxed with plenty of time to spend at the stops along the way - we were lucky with Mount Fuji on full display until our very last stop. The optional lunch was excellent, well worth it. Great way to spend the day - see parts of Tokyo you wouldn’t normally as well as Mount Fuji!

Enjoyable day out of Kanazawa to explore the world heritage villages
Well organised trip with plenty of free time to explore each site.
Very easy to find pick up location ie good directions. No wasted time picking people up.
Lunch was delicious; an authentic set meal, seated in the floor.
Both locations were interesting and worth visiting, so unique.
Guide was very enthusiastic and provided a lot of information along the way.
Bus was comfortable but had no toilet, however there was a rest stop.
Recommend this trip as it would be hard to get to these places by yourselves.

Our guide Jake was...
Our guide Jake was fabulous. His knowledge of Nagano and surrounds was amazing. We visited the Temple, did some sake tasting and had a beautiful lunch at the entrance to the Snow Monkey Park. Visiting the Snow Monkeys (and babies) was just the icing on the cake!

We highly recommend Kalid El Barraq as your tour guide
Our tour guide was Kalid El Barraq, and let me start by saying: he is the best!
He arrived on time to pick us up at the hotel and followed the itinerary perfectly. He knew exactly where we were going and the best way to get there.
At every place we visited, he took the time to explain the history and details of the location. His knowledge is truly amazing.
He was polite, professional, and attentive throughout the entire day, always making sure we were comfortable and enjoying the experience.
We highly recommend him as your tour guide!

Nikko and Tosho-gu shrine. Japan
Shogun shrine and Buddhist temple is work visiting in Nikko. The tale of three monkeys was absolutely fantastic. The ornate dwellings are sight be seen and behold. The iconic red bridge was a delight. However not enough time was allotted to visit after the visit to shrine or special stop at the bridge and walk across the bridge. Little disappointing. Well worth the trip. Recommend to anyone visiting Tokyo for this day trip.

Fantastic tour! Well worth it!
This excursion was an absolutely fantastic way to experience some of Japan’s most iconic sights in one day. From start to finish, everything was well organized and ran smoothly. Seeing Mount Fuji was truly breathtaking. We were very lucky that we had a bright sunny clear day that made it even more magical and unforgettable. Kamakura was a highlight, especially visiting the Great Buddha, which is even more impressive in person. The history and peaceful atmosphere there really stood out. Also, Lake Ashi was another beautiful stop, offering scenic views and a relaxing change of pace. The combination of cultural landmarks, natural beauty, and comfortable transportation made this a well-balanced and enjoyable day. It is a full day with an early start, but absolutely worth it if you want to see a lot in a short amount of time. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Japan for the first time or those wanting to check off some must-see destinations in one trip. We stopped for lunch which was delightful and delicious. Our tour guide was from Spain but really knew his history and facts about this wonderful country!

Great experience!
We had Kevin as our guide, and he was wonderful! He helped us find the specific meeting spot that morning, was very friendly and engaging, and gave the perfect balance of information and quiet time on the bus. We were lucky that we saw Mt Fuji the entire day. All of the stops were interesting and fun, and I really enjoyed drinking the water from Mt Fuji’s snow. Highly recommend!!

Mihoko was a delight from the beginning, she was easy to communicate with while making our plans for the tour. She was prompt meeting us and was a wonderful guide because she was very knowledgeable about Kochi. She was accommodating when we kept changing our plans. We were a group of six people and we all give her 5 stars. Thank you Mihoko for a great day.
