I have zero experience...

I have zero experience riding horses, so I was a little nervous leading up to this experience. The girls leading the tour were great and immediately put my mind at ease! They explained everything we needed to know about the horses and how to hold the reins. The horses were calm and knew where to walk without much direction. The scenery was beautiful, it was really cool to walk through the lava fields and even try the tolt! I definitely would recommend this experience if you’ve never ridden a horse before. Pick up & drop off made everything very convenient as well.

I really enjoyed this experience. The staff was really kind and helpful. They provided us with all the gear needed for the horse ride. They assigned us a horse depending on our riding experience. It was only my second time but I felt safe and the tour guide was checking on us during the ride to make sure everyone was ok. The landscape was also amazing. At the end they gave us a hot drink to warm up and a nice cake. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Such a fun experience! We learned so much about these very special and majestic horses. The staff was quite friendly and incredibly knowledgeable, especially Maria. We went riding on a path through the lava fields. The scenery and landscape was incredible. The horses were friendly and patient. Our overall group was about 20 people I think. Then we broke into two smaller groups. More experienced riders in one group so they could ride faster and then we had a group that rode as a walking group. So not matter your experience and comfort level, there was something for everyone. The pickup and drop off was super easy. And the horse farm was only a 20-minute ride from the city. The tour description is accurate. I highly recommend this adventure!

Amazing staff who you know care and we’re happy to give tips on how to tölt, gorgeous horses who were gentle and easy to ride, and above all the views on the beach were breathtaking. I’d recommend booking a session a bit later in the day to see the sunset over the beach!

Perfect way to get to know an Icelandic horse

Want a fun and personalized way to experience the Icelandic horse on vacation! My spouse and I took a private tour and felt like our preferences for riding speed, challenge and terrain were taken into account which made the ride exciting and interesting for us! We rode for a few minutes in an enclosed paddock to familiarize ourselves with our horses and a new to us riding style, before hitting the trails. Our guide provided lots of information about the history of the area in which we rode which was an added bonus! The horses were well cared for and beautiful! We were able to reach the stable in our rental car, but for those without a car, it is accessible on the bus line. Do not hesitate to book this tour!

Horseback riding in Iceland was, without a doubt, one of the most unforgettable highlights of my trip. As someone who had never ridden a horse before, I approached the experience with a mix of excitement and nerves. Climbing onto the back of an Icelandic horse felt like stepping far outside my comfort zone—but what a beautiful leap it turned out to be. The first few steps were thrilling and a little scary. I could feel every movement, unsure of what to expect. But almost instantly, something shifted. My horse—gentle, patient, and incredibly intuitive—seemed to sense my apprehension. I kept whispering to her, “Please be careful with me, this is my first time,” and somehow, I truly believe she understood. Her calm demeanor helped me relax, and soon I was riding with a sense of peace and joy I hadn’t anticipated. Icelandic horses are perfect for beginners. They’re not too tall, which makes mounting and riding feel more approachable, and their famously smooth gait—the tölt—makes the ride incredibly comfortable. But more than that, they have a quiet strength and kindness that makes you feel safe. I fell in love with my horse that day. She carried me through Iceland’s stunning landscapes with grace and patience, and gave me a memory I’ll treasure for the rest of my life. If you’re considering horseback riding in Iceland—even if you’ve never ridden before—don’t hesitate. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience that will stay with you forever.
