A fun way to get good views without hiking

We enjoyed the ATV sunset tour. Our guide, Fabricio, was fantastic—very attentive and helpful. The volcano views are spectacular. Riding the ATVs up and down the mountain was fun, although we had hoped for an off-road tour instead of only paved roads. The Hobbitenango theme park was only mildly interesting; its real value for us was as a backdrop for taking pictures.

I loved this entire experience. I thought I was physically in shape but definitely felt the burn when we started the hike up to the volcano. I’m not prideful and opted for a horse on the way up and it was the most breathtaking experience I’ve ever done. Definitely recommend.

Incredible once in a lifetime tour

Most beautiful hardest tour I've done in my life. Doable with older adventurous kids (ages 8 and 12). I was not prepared for how rough the trails will be on ATV (I did not have enough off roading experience for this), but our tour guides, Diego and Amy saved the day and put my 8 year old and me as their passengers, allowing us to take in the incredible views and be part of this adventure. Highly recommend!

Went on a Sunday...

Went on a Sunday afternoon and ended up being a private class for me and my friend. Super fun, the only thing I wish we knew was that sundays you don’t go to the market. Honestly, probably the best food we had on the whole trip since we made things that weren’t as commonly found in restaurants. Dario and Victor were amazing and we had such a great time with them and learned so much about the history behind the food. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a cooking class.

My driver was great, polite, and helpful. Anibal was right where he said, my name on a sign held high (it was very busy). The ride was very comfortable. He played music at a reasonable volume, not too loud or too quiet. Got me exactly to my hotel even though the entrance is not well Marked and it was closed. Carried my roller suit case at the airport to the car and got it into the hotel, despite me saying it was not really necessary, great customer service.

The experience was both fun and educational, and we learned a lot about the history of chocolate and the process of making it from cacao beans. What really made the class special was the instructor. They kept everyone engaged with their energy, humor, and enthusiasm, incorporating singing and dancing throughout the class. It created a fun, interactive atmosphere that made the experience memorable for everyone. We left with a greater appreciation for chocolate and some great memories. A Truly Spectaular Experience!

Make no mistake, this is a challenging hike. If you find longer, uphill hikes difficult, maybe reconsider this experience. I will also say there are Porters available to help carry your bags to make it easier (we did not do this). If you can face the challenge, it is truly an unforgettable experience! Seeing Volcan de Fuego erupt was such an amazing thing to see in person. We chose to do the extra hike for about $35/pp and it was completely worth it. We had pouring rain and lightning as we were hiking up, it was still totally worth it and just made viewing the eruptions more dramatic! Once it cleared, we have multiple hours of eruptions that were so cool to watch. I would completely recommend this to anyone considering it!

Our driver Rolando was great. Our flight was delayed multiple times and the company was very accommodating to let us know it was no problem and someone would pick us up whenever we arrived. Challenging but Unforgettable Acatenango Experience

I did the overnight Acatenango hike with Ox Expeditions and was really impressed with how well organised everything was. The welcome briefing the night before is absolutely essential—it gives you a clear idea of what to expect and how demanding the hike truly is. One thing I really appreciated was that they offer lots of warm clothing to hire for free, which meant I didn’t have to pack bulky layers in my own bag. I would strongly recommend hiring a porter for the ascent (for an additional charge). The hike is steep, long and genuinely difficult, and having someone carry your main bag makes a huge difference. Be prepared for very cold temperatures at base camp. Food is provided and perfectly fine for the conditions, but the campsite itself is very basic. It’s also worth knowing that you’re not guaranteed dramatic views or a clear sight of Fuego erupting—weather and cloud cover can change quickly. Even so, the experience is absolutely worth it. Reaching the top and spending the night on the volcano is something I’ll never forget.
