A must do experience. Yes, it's a long day and a fair amount of travel but it's worth it. The lake is beautiful, and the trips to the islands situated within it, getting a sense of how people live and work, and the history of both Guatemala and its people made this a great day. Rene, our driver and Joel , our guide , were fantastic.

This was easily the best excursion I've ever booked. For this price you get a private transfer to Lake Atitlan, private guided tour throughout three towns, and a return transfer. The driver and guides were excellent. I'm writing this several months after the fact, but I loved each part. Pick this tour!

A perfect day trip! We started off with a comfortable (but long!) car ride to Lake Atitlan. Upon arrival, we met our guide, David, and had breakfast with a view. He was a wonderful guide who made sure we experienced all we wanted to see. We loved San Juan and Santiago. We opted to skip San Pedro so our kids could have time swimming in the lake. Would highly recommend this excursion. And if you go, hope you are lucky to have David as well!

A Nice Day on the Lake

Wil_M, Mar 2026
The Lake Atitlan tour made for a long but interesting day. The three villages we visited on the trip were diverse and worth visiting. Our guide did a good job of explaining the history of the area and the people who live there now. The slight reduction in our rating of this tour is due to the traffic that we encountered on the drive from Antigua to the lake. It's not a reflection on the driver or the guide, but the travel time to and from the lake can be tedious.

Great day

This excursion is great value and full of adventure. Joelle was wonderful , helpful and Mario was a terrific driver who was very prompt with the pick up .i would highly recommend

Everyone was really nice and punctual. The places we visited I believe are really important to get to know.

Really well organized and everyone was punctual. From start to finish it felt like a personalized experience where I was able to learn and enjoy the trip

Atitlan visit

Felix, Feb 2026
The lake is beautiful and we had the chance to see the local population in their daily life's. Unique views of the Mayan culture and art. Our driver Mario was very accommodating and our local guide Lidia gave us a special insight into their culture.

I can’t imagine a better day trip!

Alida_K, Dec 2025
This was by far one of our favorite tours we’ve taken! We (like many other reviewers it seems) did not realize it was a private tour, so that was a lovely surprise. Our driver was great and our guide, Joel, was absolutely fantastic. Joel was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and excited to share a bit of his culture and history with us. We got lessons about native bees, weaving, local dress, and painting which were very educational and great opportunities to support local businesses and artists! Our lack of impulse control meant it turned out to be one of the more expensive days of our trip, but well worth the money! It feels important to note that, though 2/3 of the bee species you meet do not sting, those biting species are very interested in landing on you. Thus, if you have an allergy or are not okay with bugs, you may want to mention that early on so your guide can find a different activity.

Great full day trip. A bit too much driving, but totally worth it! Some activities in the towns feel like tourist traps… but they are not pushy at all.

Joel makes this tour amazing

Samara_R, Nov 2025
Great experience to get an overview of the lake in a short timeframe. Joel is one of the best guides I have ever had, he is very passionate about the area and his roots in the Mayan culture. He also takes care to make sure everyone is comfortable and was a huge help for my elderly parents. He makes the trip 1000% worth it. Rene drove us to and from the lake and he was excellent as well. Highly recommend this tour if you’re short on time!

Living Life on the Lake

Alicia_W, Nov 2025
We had a fabulous time learning about Mayan culture while touring the lakeside villages and getting a taste of daily Guatemalan life. Joel was an exceptional tour guide.

Magical Lake and towns

Huber_B, Nov 2025
The experience was amazing, Joel the tour guy was very kind, very knowledgeable of his traditions and culture. The locations my family and I visited were just magical.

We had an amazing trip to Lake Atitlan. Our driver, Marlo, was so kind, provided lots of information during our long commute and the car was very comfortable. Our guide Nikolas was also very knowledgeable about the villages and made sure we were well taken care of. Keep in mind, although the tour is private, many guides are doing the same thing for other groups so you will see several other groups eating at the same places you end up, watching the same demonstrations, etc. The restaurant, Chichoy, half way there was a nice place to break up the driving, and the breakfast was good. Didn't care as much for the restaurant, Tierra, in Santiago. Pay the extra for the tuktuk in San Pedro. We took the tour with three kids, ages 9, 12 and 15, and they enjoyed the viewpoints, but it was a long day of travel for sure. Honestly, we enjoyed the boat ride just as much as the villages.

It's not worth it

MAURICIO_C, Sep 2025
The operator is good. The trip is not worth it. More than 3 hrs in a difficult road full of "baches y topes", very dangerous with the rain. The lake is contaminated. You allways smell like petrol.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Dear Mauricio, Thank you for reaching out to us with your concerns regarding the lake. We sincerely appreciate your feedback and value your input. We're pleased to hear you appreciated our services as a tourist operator. We apologize for the challenges you experienced during your journey. As outlined in our pre-tour instructions, the route typically takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes, and can be extended in rainy conditions. Under normal circumstances, the lake's waters are clear and beautiful. However, on extremely rare occasions during the rainy season, heavy rainfall in nearby rivers can lead to a temporary muddy appearance and an undesirable odor in the lake. We truly regret that you had to experience this phenomenon during your visit. Your satisfaction is of utmost importance to us, and we appreciate your understanding of these natural variations. We look forward to the opportunity to provide you with a more enjoyable experience in the future. Best regards,

Lake Atitlan

Beautiful lake and the towns that surround it, next to the magnificent volcanoes. We were driven from La Antigua to Panajachel with a very knowledgeable group of guides who tailored our tour to meet all our wishes.

100% recommended. Both the driver and tour guide were amazing. Breakfast and Lunch, even though not included, were really good. Boat ride in the lake was fun, and the views were breathtaking. The kids, 9 and 7 years old, loved it.

Organized, smooth, and so much fun! Marlon was a fantastic and kind driver who gave us lots of information on the way to and from the lake as well as made stops for food and views. Our guide Joel was very fun and knowledgeable about the cities we visited and had a passion for sharing his culture. He gave us options/recommendations and answered all of our questions. Would 100000% recommend to anyone wanting to visit Lake Atitlan.

A great experience with our guide, who is native to the area and gave us insights we couldn't have had on our own. Lake Atitlan is beautiful. Recommended.

5/5 – Amazing Private Tour Experience

JasonPolanco, Jun 2025
This tour was absolutely incredible — easily a 5 out of 5 stars. Our driver, Freddy, was amazing. He picked us up right in front of our hotel and dropped us off at the end, making everything super easy and comfortable. It was a private tour just for me and my wife, which made it feel even more special. Our island tour guide, Joel, was fantastic. You can tell he’s super experienced — he showed us everything and made us feel so welcome the entire time. He had great energy, shared a lot of insight, and really made the day unforgettable. Honestly, for everything we did and saw, you just can’t beat the price. Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a smooth, fun, and memorable experience!

Great tour for the whole family!

Amanda_G, Jun 2025
We had a great time on this tour. The driver and van were very nice. Our local guide, Joel, did an incredible job showing us the culture of 3 towns. He was flexible, offering other options when he heard we had already done a chocolate class. We loved learning about the Mayan bees and seeing how they make the textiles. Joel taught us some Mayan words and about the people in the towns. Breakfast at Chichoy and lunch in Santiago were delicious as well. My kids, ages 10 and 12, enjoyed the boat ride immensely (it's a bumpy ride in the front, but we were forewarned). It was a fun and educational adventure.

Good day trip

monisha_t, May 2025
The drive from Antigua to panachagel is quite long but the driver was great and very friendly . The lake and boat trip to the 3towns was fine our guide was very good . Not advised if it’s a rainy day

Response from Host, May 2025

Thanks so much for your review. We’re glad you enjoyed the driver and guide! You're right about the weather; it can make a big difference, especially during the rainy season when the lake gets choppy. We do send out info ahead of time with tips about road time, snack stops, and weather conditions, but we totally get that it can get missed. Thanks again for the feedback. It really helps us improve!

Lake Atitlan boat tour

Sarah_P, Apr 2025
The shuttle picked us up right on time at our Airbnb in Antigua. The driver was very nice and helpful. We stopped for breakfast along the way and it was delicious. Our boat guide was informative and fun to talk to. We enjoyed seeing the local villages and learning more about the history. We had 8 people traveling ranging in age from 8 years old to 73. Everyone enjoyed the tour.

Great trip, well organised. We went to three islands and saw a bee farm, the traditional way of making cotton, several churches, it was a good tour and informative guide although it did feel like we were been upsold at every opportunity!

Joel - the best guide to lake Atitlan!

Garth_F, Apr 2025
Every tour we took in Guatemala was unique and interesting and all our guides were excellent, but this tour really stood out because of the guide, Joel. Joel is full Mayan and very proud of his culture He is also a unique and independent person. He is very much a self-made man. I found him to be very interesting. His hobby is climbing volcanoes and he was a top goal scorer for the local football team. I think one day he will be the Maya mayor of Santiago de Atitlan. in addition to the usual things like crossing the lake to see San Juan, San Pedro and Santiago we got to see some of the hidden sites that many tourists might not see such as riding in a tuktuk to the best view points in the island in the area, meeting Maximon (a Maya deity who likes to smoke and drink!) And learning so much about Mayan culture and in particular the ways of the different mayan cities around Lake Atitlan . I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. If I could only pick one tour on my trip, this would be it. Be sure you ask for Joel!!!

Great Guatemalean tour!

Leticia_N, Mar 2025
Great tour! The driver, Marlo, was excellent! He pick us up, on time, at the Hotel and provide us a lot of information about the places we ŵre going thru. Besides being very courteous and respectful, he is extremely knowledgable of the country and gave us a great overview of Guatemalean history; we consider him a very knowledgable tour guide. Roberto, our tour guide to the 3 Atitlán towns was knowledgable and attentive. The Atitlán Lake is beautiful and the 3 towns very colorful and full of Mayan history. We like San Juan, the best. The boat trip was fun! I highly recommend this tour and the native company who offered it. Thanks a lot to all!

Sylvia_L, Mar 2025
Great experience. Osman was our driver, he picked us up perfectly on time, drove very safely, and his vehicle was clean and comfortable. He took us to CHICHOY for breakfast, which was delicious. Roberto was our guide, he did a great job showing us around. The place he took us for lunch was just OK. The boat ride was fun, however, the waters do get quite choppy in the afternoon.
