This hike is amazing & pretty tough. Seeing an active volcano is definitely a bucket list item! Here's the nitty gritty: -GUIDES: They were GREAT & I always felt safe & not rushed. There were 2 groups of 20 people & each group had 2 guides. Brothers has 2 different base camps so once we started the hike we didn't see the other group until we were almost back the next day. -FOOD: Calzone/bread pocket for lunch & pasta with red sauce for dinner. Bring lots of snacks! There are multiple places on the way up to buy snacks/drinks. -WATER: Drink a lot! And bring more than you think! There is no water source at base camp & you'll definitely want it on the Fuego & sunrise hikes. I also had salt tabs. -DIFFICULTY: No one in my group got altitude sickness, but there were a handful of people who were really struggling. A lot of people go on this trip who are not hikers, so between the very steep trail & the altitude, it can get really hard. One of the guides always waited. -FUEGO HIKE: HIGHLY recommend going if the weather permits! It's an incredible experience. You hike straight down for about 25 minutes, then straight up for at least an hour, some groups took longer. Going back was the hardest part because you're exhausted from the day & have to go up about an hour of very steep trail to get back to base camp. I didn't end up doing the sunrise hike because I didn't get any sleep, but it looked amazing. -BASE CAMP: 2 sleeping quarters - one sleeps 5 & the other sleeps 15 with bunkbeds. All the mattresses are right up against each other so you get cozy. Everyone gets a sleeping bag & blanket. Bring lots of layers, especially a dry base layer so you aren't sleeping in sweaty clothes. It gets really cold! I slept in 2 base layer shirts, a fleece, a puffer (I eventually took this off), thermal pant layer, hiking pants, socks & beanie. -TOILET: There is an outhouse with a toilet but you need to bring toilet paper. -OTHER: Bring gloves, rain jacket, sun shirt, sunscreen, & cash.

Meeting point on Viator is wrong, and it nearly caused me to miss the tour. I had to contact them and rush to the office in a hurry. Unpleasant start. Tour is fine, just don’t expect anything to be comfortable, everyone comes for the view but everyone in the team made it alright. It’s a once in a lifetime experience so just do it.

This is an incredible experience. It’s a very tough hike. Angell and Rogelio were great tour guides. Very helpful and friendly. The one thing that could have been better is the food. We were given a thick, hard loaf of bread that was stuffed with a very small portion of pepperoni or something. It was cold and there was no way to heat it up. Then we were given bland pasta and noodles ssw other tours enjoying hearty portions of heated chicken and rice.

Way too many hikers and not enough experienced guides

I was really excited about this experience—the opportunity to hike a volcano with like-minded adventurers. When I arrived at the office, I was surprised by how many people were there. I initially assumed there were multiple groups, but it quickly became clear that things were chaotic from the start. There was very little instruction, and people were essentially told to get in where they fit in. My group ended up being 40+ people for what was supposed to be a 16-person hike. The guides appeared to be very young and, unfortunately, didn’t seem to have the experience needed to manage such a large and varied group. We were never informed about meal times and had to figure out dinner and breakfast on our own. The food was edible, but nothing notable. I really wanted to like this tour based on the positive reviews, but this was one of the worst tour experiences I’ve had as a traveler. I don’t blame the individual guides—I blame the tour operator. It felt like a cash grab during a busy period, with little regard for the safety and experience of the people who booked. That said, I’m grateful that the fellow hikers were kind, supportive, and looked out for one another. They were truly the best part of the experience, along with the views from base camp. I chose not to do the additional hikes because of how disorganized everything felt, and I didn’t want to put myself in an unsafe situation.

Terrible experience, from the beginning they had over 50 people scrambling in the morning and our group was about 30 when advertised said no more than 15ppl, they advertised hats and jackets which were all gone and we asked but never received so we were cold most the trek,, Our guides barely spoke to us the whole trek, didn’t learn anything at all was only hurried along even when trying to take photos of the erupting volcano. They promised we would summit in the morning only to be told that we couldn’t the weather was perfect, we were never told anything over half the group wanted to summit only to be hurried down the mountain.. Poor all round go somewhere else.
