Amazing tour, amazing guide. Experience was excellent. Felt safe at all times under the excellent care of Lester and Julio. They were able to make the trip memorable whether you had ever driven an ATV or not. Would recommend this for anyone, including families. I look forward to more tours when I return to Antigua.

This was a great experience for me and my 13 year old daughter. We arrived at the tour operator location in Antigua a bit early which gave us time to get acclimated (purchase sunglasses and sunscreen we forgot). We were easily able to get by with a mix of english and spanish easily. Estuarto, our guide, was a great guy. They made sure we were able to get by no problem navigating both on and off road. Our first stop took us through coffee fields to some old lava fields to the base of Pacaya. It is huge! Pictures do not do this place justice. Our second stop brought us to some new lava fields (2021) that were much darker. We walked a bot through the fields, had our lunch (great avocado and cheese sandwich), and were able to feel the heat from the magma about 40m below. Our third stop was a lagoon formed within the caldera of one of the volcanoes. Nice and relaxing. It was a great experience - well worth both the time and money.

Hello!
Thanks for the recommendation and review, Thank you for choosing us for our most extreme tour the pacaya volcanoe, from the moment you met our guide Estuardo with his enthusiam and friendliness made you feel at ease, and he was able to communicate with you in english or spanish, before starting the adventure he gave you all the explanation and instructions on how to operate the atv, During each stop you were able to appreciate three important points where you learned about the history incluiding and area of petrified lava where you enjoyed a delicious sandwich with increidble views, at each stop you could appreciate never before seen and take as many photos as you wanted

Our guide was Diego and he was awesome. He was very informative and spoke very good English. If you are thinking of booking this tour I think it is helpful to know that you should have a lot of previous experience driving an ATV. I had driven one in the past once but I decided to have my husband drive instead of taking my own and I’m glad I did. The path going up the volcano was challenging with lots of sharp turns mixed with rock and sandy parts. I definitely would not have been able to maneuver the atv on this part of the tour. I would also recommend hiking boots as you get a lot of rocks in your shoes during the hike. Overall it was a great experience and it was awesome getting to know the other people in our group and Diego.

Thank you so much for leaving us a review about your Pacaya tour experience! We really appreciate your recommendations, and we love knowing you had such an amazing experience, hope to see you again soon!
Erica_L, Mar 2026
Loved the tour, wear dark clothing as it gets a little dirty riding atvs through the town and volcano. My only smallest complaint was he took photos but we never got them. But was a great day one of our highlights.

Great experience... but a long day. We started at 8:30 and had about an hour and 15 minute drive to the location. Once at the location we got helmets and our ATV. The ATV were easy to navigate and overall felt safe. The first 2 locations were definitely a must see when coming to Guatemala. The guide was very informative. The second stop is when we ate our lunch. They provided a sandwich, chips, some candies, water, and Gatorade. The last stop was the lake, personally I would have been ok not going to it and ending the trip early. We didn't get back to Antigua till after 6pm. Overall it was a good time!

So much fun! My first time riding an ATV and now I want one!
Guides were awesome: very helpful and will stick with your group throughout the entire trip in case you need support.
Allow time to travel to the ATV location and to get set up. They will show you how to use the ATV (so easy). Once you get comfortable, it’s a blast!
Highly suggest taking something to cover your nose as it gets dusty once you’re on the dirt path.
You can have your backpack on you if you want to take it with you, no problem.
Recommended if you’re in Antigua for sure!

Outstanding tour! The tour guide (Leo) was excellent. Spoke perfect English and was quite entertaining. The ATVs were well maintained and the route that was planned was the perfect mix paved road, gravel road and complete off road!

Our guide Diego made it a good fun experience. Good way to explore the area around Pacaya. That said, the traces of hot lava were pretty much all gone when we went.

Don’t book with Viator
The price booking directly with the shop in town is less than half the price!
Despite being charged over double the price the views are amazing and I still enjoyed the dsy

This is another activity that I would consider to be an absolute must if you could only do like two. We had a very large group and it included multiple families with little kids, 20 something’s, and all the way up to an elderly lady who was riding solo - everyone had a good time and nobody was struggling. The team did a great job leading and explaining. Few notes:
- you will get very dusty and that volcanic ash will get everywhere, so bring a windbreaker, sunglasses, and even a face mask or a balaclava - we didn’t have it but some people in our group did and I wished we had ours,
- you will do a lot of ATVing going between different fields, and then to a lake.
- You will ride on the paved roads, on the unpaved roads, and off road - if you like ATVs, this is the trip for you. And if you can, ride solo - it’s more fun and easier to get up some of the inclines,
- if you have never drove an ATV, don’t worry - again, we had an elderly lady in our group riding solo and she did just fine,
- you get a sandwich and two drinks (a bottle of water and a bottle of Gatorade) with your trip and we found it enough for the full day of riding.
This trip is definitely one of the highlights of our stay in Antigua. You see a lot, you ride a lot, the team instructs and guides well. A must.

My 1st ATV ride so wasn’t sure what to expect. Didn’t realize I would be driving thru so many terrains while viewing the volcano. Definitely added to the experience.
Lester and the local guide were very patient with my cautious driving. They provided clear instructions and with safety in mind.
The views of the volcano were stunning. The lava walk was crunchy and more scenic than other walks taken in Hawaii. Good traction shoes are definitely recommended to go longer distances. There was an unfortunate incident with some locals, but Lester came to my rescue and took excellent care of me.
Was fun to shake the dust off after this adventure. Going on a 2nd excursion with this company since this experience was so fun.

This is an extreme ATVing experience. Be prepared for an intense off roading ride! The guides were awesome. Leo, Pablo, and Amy were awesome and always made sure we were having fun while being safe. I was clenching my cheeks and holding my breath 90% of the ride but it was all worth it. There was a point that was very steep and rocky and I decided to be a passenger princess. Amy is so badass and it was just as much fun. The views are incredible. We saw mountain bikers riding which was crazy. I 100% recommend this tour but prepared to be sore! Also, you’re provided with a sandwich, snacks, Gatorade and approx 1/2 L of water so you really won’t need much unless you want to pack extra.

Thank you for your review, glad you liked our Pacaya ATV Tour. Ill let your guides know they did a great job keeping your safe :)
nathan_f, Nov 2025
Super fun way to experience Pacaya. The guides are very safety conscious and keep an eye out for everyone. The lava fields are very interesting. Not as dusty as i expected it to be but a face covering is still a good idea. It was quite a bit cooler up at Pacaya than down in Antigua so take that into account. The "cooked" sandwich was more like warmed but if you are going for the food you are on the wrong trip. Go for the fun and the scenery. They did supply gatorade, water, and a couple of other snacks. Plan on an hour + each way in travel. Fun day and highly recommended.

This adventure was a lot of fun. The experience of driving an ATV through dry lava beds was amazing. Then walking on them and having lunch on them was a fun experience. To get onto the lava fields and walk to lunch it does require balance and careful stepping to prevent a fall. For anyone who struggles with balance and walking on uneven surfaces, this might be a little difficult. We also got caught in the rain, they gave us all ponchos to stay dry. I still enjoyed the trip and would very much recommend it, rain and all.

I had an incredible time on the ATV tour! Even though I was the only person signed up that day, the tour company didn't cancel (thank you!) so I essentially had a private tour! Sergio, the guide, was super kind and helpful, making sure I felt comfortable driving the ATV and checking in throughout. His knowledge of the region and enthusiasm made the trip really special AND he took some amazing photos! This is a must-do activity that I would recommend to anyone coming to Antigua
