What To Expect

The waltz was first popularized within the walls of the Kursalon Vienna in the 19th century, thanks to the talents of Johann Strauss, who celebrated his first great success at a concertmaster here. The venue quickly became a bustling spot for Viennese society to meet and enjoy music.

Your evening begins with dinner inside this historic concert hall, at the Restaurant Johann. Settle into your seat and savor four courses of seasonal Viennese dishes.

After dessert, you are shown to your seat for a performance of classical Viennese music. Accompanied by opera vocalists and ballet dancers, soak up the sounds of arias, duets, waltzes, and polkas, as well as operetta and piano concerto melodies.

If you choose to upgrade to a VIP ticket, enjoy front-row seating, a glass of sparkling wine during intermission, and a Johann Strauss CD to take home with your Kursalon Orchestra program.

It is not what is advertised with rude staff

Let me start off with the dinner experience. Now let me tell you that I spent about $540 for the VIP treatment for 3 people. BIG MISTAKE. Front desk gives us the programs, 2 CDs (now I need to unearth my CD player which is tucked away in the attic or basement), and 3 drink vouchers. We stand on the long line and when it is our turn the lady asks for the voucher. What voucher, I never got one. She says no voucher no eating. So I go back to the front desk and after a few minutes they give me the voucher. When I tell them I have to go to the back of the line again, I am told, "Well enjoy this place since it will be torn down in 2 years!". Still had to wait on line. Once seated, we waited a good 20 minutes for the server to take our order, another 15 minutes for the soup and wine to arrive. I ordered a squash soup. Must say the Panera soup is way better since this one was too watery, so I asked the waitress for some bread, and she replies: "Oh no we only have bread for those people who got the 4 course meal you got the 3 courses!" and walks away. Must say that bread refusal for my watery squash did not feel good! Then after another 15 minutes the main courses came, I got duck which was not bad. Then came the desert and we ordered 3 expressos to go with it. Once done they tell us that we can do to the "Concert Hall". Since I already paid for the dinner and concert, got the drink vouchers, and never got a bill or was told to pay for anything, I thought that I was all paid up! Insomuch when the lady who seated us asks if we paid, I said yes of course and proceeded to go to the concert hall. Once seated and yes since we were "VIP" status we did sit in the front row, however, we were asked to keep moving further down the row of seats until we could go no further by the drafty large window. The Concert Hall was a large, white, bright room with a makeshift stage covered in a red-worn-torn-cloth next to the dining area and not in the historical building. There must have been about a 100 or more people sitting tightly together waiting for the concert to begin. I was ready for the show! Within my readiness the lady who seated us and our waitress comes to where I am sitting by the drafty window surrounded by the other guests and loudly states, "You said you paid but you didn't you owe 35 euros!!" Flips the credit card machine to my direction and waits for my credit card to be inserted. I tell her I have the drink vouchers and she says that those are for the intermission. How am I suppose to know!!! No one informed me that I had to pay!!! I pay she leaves, I sulk. After a few deep breaths, positive affirmations, and reassuring myself that I will make in life, I enjoy the music and dancing. Would I pay this money for this experience again, the answer is NO! Was the dinner and the accompanying dinner experience worth it, the answer is NO! Did I enjoy the public display in the Concert Hall, the answer is NO! Did I like the music and dancing, the answer is YES, but would have enjoyed it more if there was an open communication and no public display.

Excellent Music but Terrible Food Service

The live music was absolutely phenomenal and created a great atmosphere. However, the food service was a major disappointment. The food arrived cold, and the wait staff seemed to forget about us entirely. To make matters worse, they brought us the bill before even serving our final course. This lack of attention and care significantly diminished our overall experience. I would recommend this venue only for the music, but the dining experience leaves much to be desired.

The meal was very good. The musicians were awesome and the female singer also. I felt the male singer could have been better. The dancers took away from the musicians and were superfluous to requirements. Some of the audience were so rude disobeying the ushers instructions not to film, etc.

I've never left a negative review before, but the experience, especially the meal was incredibly disappointing. Not disgusting, but very likely ready-made, and so incredibly mediocre for something marketed as gourmet. The local supermarket has better soup and microwavable meals. The concert was good, but every other concert I went to in Vienna was better and cheaper.

Viator trip - 1105861485 Kursalon Vienna Date - 13 July We were very disappointed with our concert trip during our visit to Vienna last weekend We have used Viator many times in other cities including a separately booked walking tour by my wife on Viator in Vienna during the same weekend which ran smoothly and we thoroughly enjoyed. Sadly, on this occasion that was not the case. The event is advertised as a 4 course dinner at the historic Kursalon. A building which was pointed out to us during our bus tour of Vienna on the same day and one we were very much looking forward to visiting. We turned up at the venue and there was a party event taking place. There was no signage or representative to let us know what was happening and at the external gate we met up with another group from Switzerland/England who were in the same position. Fortunately, purely by chance, one of the staff working on the party event called someone, which after some confusion, directed us to the Palace Ferstel for the Concert . Having taken the subway on a very hot day we arrived at the Palace and there was no sign of any concert happening or the dinner. Eventually we found something buried within the instructions that the dinner was in a different place. Again, in the extreme heat we had to locate and go to some obscure restaurant within a hotel and rush down a fairly average meal as we needed to be back to the ‘concert’ in a very short time. The dinner was advertised as taking place within the “stunning” concert hall. Sadly the restaurant did not live up to that. The staff were good but the food was average. We walked back to the concert venue and again felt disappointed with the venue and the production. We received a programme showing a full orchestra, including brass instruments, but there was a much smaller ensemble on the stage. Although a beautiful building the venue did not have the acoustic for the concert. I had upgraded to VIP at a greater cost and do not feel this was a VIP Experience. The event reminded me of watching our son play on stage at his school some years ago! The whole event was sold to us with a lovely 4 course meal followed by an orchestra and music typical for an evening in Vienna. All we got was lots of rushing around and disappointment on a special occasion (60th birthday, hence the Vienna trip and ‘VIP’) I would like a full refund as the event did not match the description and the evening was spoiled by having to travel to 3 different places in the extreme heat, dressed for a special evening to attend a dinner in a 2nd class venue and to listen to a musical ensemble that did not live up to the expectation of the advertisement or that depicted in the programme! Wonderful Evening- not to miss

Our family, ages 9-76, all enjoyed this special evening in Vienna. There were different menu selections (appetizers, soup, main course, dessert) to choose from, and everything was delicious! Beverages, including bottled water, was not included in the price. The music was excellent and included a mezzo soprano and baritone who performed several arias including duets. Dancers also joined the performance and added a nice touch. This was one of our favorite experiences in Europe!

What an enjoyable evening! The food was very good, and the waiter was very attentive to our needs (even bringing us a container of ice since it was extremely hot that day in Vienna). The real treat were the performances. The orchestra, the opera singers and the ballet dancers were all very talented, and they kept the evening alive with song and dance. Younger kids may not appreciate the music, but it wasn’t overly drawn out. A great way to experience little snippets of Austrian culture.

The concert was good and entertaining. The dinner was not impressive at all. We're charged for ordering hot water and refill in addition to what we order for beverages. The service was not great too. I recommend the concert but not the dinner.

The orchestra was excellent but the lighting was too bright and it would have been nice to let the VIP section go out first for intermission to get the glass of champagne before the rest! The opera singing was very good too! The dancing couple was just okay!

We enjoyed a fine 4-course dinner with attentive service before a very enjoyable evening's Vienese music - mostly Strauss and sometimes involving a operatic duo or a pair of ballet dancers, and finishing,of course, with The Blue Danube. The Kursalon is only yards from the U4 Stadtpark station - and, if one has time before dinner, the waterside gardens of the Stadtpark offer a delightful stroll.
