Amazing Northern Lights tour with Greenlander! Knowledgeable and friendly guides, excellent organization, and they truly go the extra mile to find clear skies. We saw stunning auroras and felt taken care of the entire night. Highly recommend — worth every minute! Hans was excellent tour guide.

Absolutely outstanding in every way possible. Marcus, our guide knew exactly what to do and where to go to see a spectacular view of the Northern Lights. And spectacular they were.
What an experience. By far the highlight of our trip. Don't miss this one.

Marcus, our driver for Greenlander, was nothing short of amazing. He contacted us to go earlier in anticipation of the northern lights timing and drove us over 2¼ hours & 240 miles into Finland quickly, but safetly, through a driving snow storm. We were able to not only see & photograph multiple arrays of lights, but Marcus also photographed our group and each couple individually with the lights in the background, as well as taking his own photographs of the lights ALL of which he shared with the entire party who came with him.
Marcus is an obviously experienced and knowledgeable tour drivier, explained much about the northern lights, Tromso and the surrounding area as well as life in Norway. After our 6½ hour search, we got to see the northern lights and we made a new friend!

You may have to drive a bit to find a clear sky but Marcus, our guide, knew exactly where to go and it was well worth the trip.

What an incredible experience - had an amazing lights show, really peaked at about 11pm. Got some great photos, our guide found a great spot and we will never forget it

Hans was our tour guide. His was very kind and knowledgeable about the lights and his excitement was infectious! We had a clear night but the numbers were low for us to see the lights. However, we got very lucky and the night turned out amazing! We got to see the lights with our eyes not just through a camera. They were bright and dancing. It was truly an incredible experience. Logistics: Use the bathroom before you get on the bus, if you are not into rehydrated food packs then eat dinner before as well. The thermal suits they provided help a lot with the cold but wear warm socks. You aren’t moving around a lot so the cold seeps in. I would bring a tripod if you want to get your own clear pictures of the lights and the night sky.

Our guide Markus was amazing. We saw so much activity and got some great photos. He also shared his photos of the evening with us, which meant our memories were preserved beautifully. Markus was knowledgeable and experienced. We made several stops to catch the lights as they were happening.

We had a wonderful Northern Lights tour with Markus as our guide. The small group size (8 people) was very pleasant, and Markus was very thoughtful in keeping the group well balanced, which clearly helped with the overall experience and route planning. He was highly enthusiastic, very experienced, and created a great, fun atmosphere throughout the evening. Markus also took fantastic photos and shared them with us afterwards, which was a big highlight. Despite the thermal suits provided, I’d recommend dressing very warmly and bringing a small snack or having eaten beforehand, as dinner ended up being quite late due to the Northern Lights putting on a show 😉. All in all, a very successful and memorable evening — highly recommended. We were lucky with the weather, but I’m confident that Markus’s expertise would make the best of less optimal conditions as well.

The experience was amazing from beginning to end! Our guide Arlo did a fantastic job. The northern lights were absolutely stunning, a dream come true to get to see. It was truly an unforgettable experience!

The tour was very easy to book online. Pick up was on time and our wonderful guide Marcos drove us for about 90 minutes. Suddenly, he pulled over when an incredible series of Northern lights started to appear. We were so lucky this was our first night and we were treated to an amazing show. Marcos took a lot of pictures that he shared the next day with everybody. It was nice to be in a small group that was able to unload quickly and set up for the photographs. Once the lights dimmed we went to another area for a picnic. The hot chocolate and tomato soup were delicious. We were treated to another series of less intense lights. Incredibly, we finished the tour before midnight and we dropped off back to our hotel for a good night sleep. I am not sure if we were just lucky or good, but overall this was a five star experience. Highly recommended.

We had a great experience. The guide was so nice and we saw the northern light with our own eyes. Perfect night!

Greenlander helped me to tick off one thing on my Bucket List, I had given up hope as Tromso was so rainy and overcast but 8 of us set of in the minivan with the enthusiastic (and very caffeinated) Markus. We had plans to head to finland to see the lights however around an hour and a half into out drive Markus spotted something, we hopped out on the side of a road and had an amazing show, we were there quite a while but can't be sure how long as you lose all sense of time being out there with the lights. Markus is also an excellent photographer and was very quick to get his photos out to us all .
We also stopped and had a camp fire at skibotn(I think) where we could capture more lights.
I did a couple of Northern Lights tours and would definitely recommend Greenlander!
a smaller tour is more personal and also you can stop anywhere enroute (a larger bus would have problems doing this)
It was great to have a guide so committed to fulfilling people's dreams of seeing the lights!
Thank you Greenlander 💜

Unforgettable Experience chasing the Northern Lights .After layering up and heading out with small tour group , we drove into Lapland Finland under a sky full of stars . When the Aurora finally appeared - dancing in green and violet waves across the sky - it was nothing short of magical . Thanks to Greenlander and our tour guide Arbo for a fantastic experience we will remember for the rest of our lives many thanks would rate this tour 10/10

Should join this tour with very profesional guide, Hans was very kind and really took care of us very well

Very professional tour and the spots chosen are really good. Lady Aurora danced for us in an extraordinary explosion.

Wow! What a chase! Hans was our absolutely stellar guide whose love of the Northern Lights is matched with a joy for photographing them and sharing it with others. He expertly navigated very poor cloudy, rainy weather using his array of apps, indicators, and some instincts as he often peered over the steering wheel into the sky looking for signs. He instinctually pulled over and bam, Northern Lights! So fun! Later he took us to a favorite valley surrounded by three majestic peaks blanketed in snow. He setup camp with a small fire, then we enjoyed hot soup, flatbread, and capped off the camp with cookies and hot chocolate. Hans explained the science behind the Northern Lights and the art & science of chasing. We headed out again without much hope but Hans found a huge gap in the clouds. We stayed for nearly an hour watching the lights appear multiple times in different parts of the sky. He gleefully announced their arrival and started snapping photos. Would highly recommend Greenlander! They cared about the whole experience with a campfire and being in the arctic wilderness but also had the expertise to find the lights in very poor weather.

Fantastic from start to finish Greenlander go out of their way to make you have a special evening and do their upmost to find the aurora. They keep you updated on everything and use the latest apps to track weather forecasts etc. Nothing is too much trouble. They provide warm clothing ( you need this ) and food and drink just magically appears and there’s something quite magical about sitting around a camp fire surrounded by snow. The small tours are so much more personal and defo worth the extra money. We spent all night chasing the lights and ended up in Finland. They were weak but we did see them.
Allison_C, Jan 2025
What a wonderful experience! We were lucky and saw the lights multiple times throughout the evening including them actively dancing in front of our eyes! The photos that the guide took were absolutely incredible and sent to us via email.
Julia_G, Jan 2025
We were fortunate enough to see the auroras, and it was truly an amazing experience. However, we chose Greenlander specifically because of the small group size. We were a party of six, including kids aged 15, 13, 10, and 8.
While we provided suit and shoe sizes in advance, as requested in the tour description, we were disappointed that the suits were not ready in time. More importantly, no suits or shoes were available for the kids, despite the extreme -28°C weather.
Although the group size was as promised—just eight people—we did not feel that our guide gave us much attention, which was disappointing given the personalized experience we were expecting.
Seeing the auroras was magical, but these issues made the experience less enjoyable than it could have been.

Great time and an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable and an experienced photographer made the evening a very enjoyable time.
ManKok_S, Dec 2024
We could not catch the northern lights. Although Markus tried to find a suitable location through calling fellow guides and checking the satellite readings, we ended the tour early, feeling disappointed. Markus camp fire and soup saved the day. The next day we managed to witness the lights just outside our hotel.

Victor was an absolutely amazing guide and so knowledgeable. Checking the weather forecasts going into the tour - the conditions did not look so great but Victor came to the rescue! He really took the extra effort to navigate and find the perfect spot near the water - and when the Northern Lights finally danced it was magical. Not only that he took such an effort to ensure that we were comfortable (we were traveling with our 5 year old) with the cocoa, tea, cookies, and the soup! Definitely would recommend this tour.
Jenny_Y, Nov 2024
Our guide, Victor, was nice but I don’t feel the price paid was at all worth the experience. Yes, the group was small (7 including me) and yes it was in a nice van, but we were just taken to one place 1 hour away from Tromso to view the northern lights. There were several other tour groups in the same area along with a large tour bus. The location didn’t feel special at all. There was no “chasing” the lights in different areas to get optimal viewing. Granted the conditions wasn’t ideal with clouds but I was under the impression that this “private” experience would take us to places typical groups wouldn’t go to.
We did end up seeing a few light patterns which at least was a good thing. I feel as though the conversations from the tour guide could have been better. Perhaps talk about some interesting facts about the aurora borealis or even talk about Norwegian culture and the town itself.
Lastly, this was supposed to come with professional photography. I understand there wasn’t much activity but towards the end there was. Instead of taking more pics, we were told the battery ran out. No backup? Several days afterwards, an email was sent with 1 photo of us sitting around the campfire with our backs turned. I don’t know….this all seemed like a waste. Should have at least taken photos of each person regardless of whether there were lights out or not.
I’ve taken many Viator private tours and out of all of them, this was probably my least favorite.

Seeing the northern lights the other night ticked off the bucket list of must do for me. It was an exhilarating experience. Hans made this happen and took us the best place inTromso to see Aurora .
Traci_M, Nov 2024
Great guide! Eager to get us to the lights! Educated us on many things Norway and Northern Lights. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Rebecca_R, Nov 2024
Amazing experience and great guide. Found us a perfect spot away from the wind to set up a campfire with soup and hot chocolate. Markus is also a fabulous photographer we got our photos so quickly and they are incredible. He made sure to get a good photo of everyone from the trip. Would recommend taking this trip! We saw the lights a good few times as Markus found us the best spots away from all the other tours :)
Diane_B, Nov 2024
Arbo was a wonderful guide. It was snowing a lot that night and he drove for a long time, taking us quite a ways into Finland to find us a clear night. He stopped at a beautiful spot, wide open space, with a bright blanket of snow and amazing stars overhead.
The Aurora was beautiful that night. In addition to some amazing reds, we also saw a softer sky with pale blues and pinks.
He took many photos of each of us and his enthusiasm made us feel like the evening was as special for him as it was for us.
Around the campfire, Arbo served us some delicious soup and hot chocolate before it was time to head back.
Thank you Arbo for a lovely evening and driving us back safely through difficult conditions
Marilyn_L, Oct 2024
We had the best experience. Mind you it was still very cold — make sure to bring warming items with you. Our guide showed us the most beautiful places and light and even turned the van back on for my daughter who was cold.
Amy, Oct 2024
We were lucky that the Northern Lights were out on display with clear skies.
Pick up was not well organized... we were shuffling around and it was hard to locate the guide. A couple people were 30 mins late because their email confirmation showed the wrong time which put us behind schedule.
We tried one spot first but the guide misjudged the difficulty of the hike to get there so we were just sitting by the van for like 30 mins while he was off exploring. After getting back in the vam, we found a spot that was maybe 20 feet off the road so cars kept driving by, creating some light pollution.
There were some good photos of us taken, but our guide was definitely more interested in taking his own photos of the lights than getting pictures of the guests.
The soup was good, and we got to roast marshmallows, which is always fun! The cookies and hot chocolate were delicious, and the fire was very warm.

Markus was great! He was well prepared (soup, teas, hot chocolate, cookies, marshmallows) and knew exactly where to go for the northern lights.
