I went on three Northern Lights tours, Northbound being the last and hands down, BEST of the three. Small group - there were 7 of us along for the ride with Oli and Ryan. Oli has a gift for conversation and storytelling that can make even the shiest person come out of their shell without feeling forced to. The ride to the spot they picked wasn't too long. The spot itself was perfect. We met Ryan once we arrived and by then we felt like we knew him already. Temperatures were really low that night but they took every measure to make us comfortable. Thermal suits were available, offered and worn by many. They monitored how we were feeling pretty consistently, giving the distinct impression that there was real care for our wellbeing. The Northern Lights were visible from the road and throughout our stay. We had a bonfire, grilled hot dogs, had our choice of hot chocolate, coffee or tea. The conversation added needed warmth throughout. By the time it was 11pm, the cold started taking a toll and we had the option to sit in the car to warm up. Oil kept saying if we were all ready to leave, we could, but kept suggesting gently that we wait 10, 20, 30 minutes because he felt something special was coming and he'd hate for us to miss it. We decided to wait and if we hadn't listened to him we would've missed the show of a lifetime. It was absolutely miraculous! It was the Northern Lights of anyone's dreams, certainly mine. I remember being in the middle of talking to him and he told me to look up and I don't remember anything but the lights after that. I must've gasped. They were dancing right above me and it felt miraculous. I am so grateful for the gentle coaxing. They know what they're doing, they have an obvious love for it and they do it so well. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Northbound. Oh, and out of my three tours, theirs was the only one to send us timelapses of the night as well as photos. Next time I'm back in Tromso, it'll be Northbound all the way. All my friends know about it already.

Mesmerising evening with Northen Lights, Fire place, and great guides

Can't describe how amazing this was. Huge thanks to Ollie & Ryan for making this evening perfect. We drove only 1 hour away from Tromso to a magical place. Ollie & Ryan explained to us all about northen lights, all in a manner that could be well understandable. One or two hours later, we were able to see real time all those scientific phenomenon with our own eyes. It was just magical. With the hot dogs, fire place, nice chats, and the sky being perfect for us, it was a once in a lifetime experience that my partner and I will remember forever.

This tour was nothing short of incredible. We saw pink, red, and bright green—all the rare and magical colors that we would probably never see in the sky unless we come back. More importantly, Ryan and Oli’s service was amazing. Ryan’s incredible photo taking skills and Oli’s enthusiasm made this experience ten times better. I’m sure the whole tour would still be fun even without strong northern lights because of them. They gave us grilled hot dogs, thrilling stories (you guys should write a book about it), Van Gogh level light painting, and most importantly treated my son well even though he supported their rival football club :). We had an amazing northern lights adventure with Ollie and Ryan with Northbound. They were fun, professional and went out of their way to make sure we experienced the Northern lights- we saw an amazing show, at a beautiful location in Norway. One of the reasons I selected this tour was for the small group size, in a comfortable vehicle (it was!), and the photography they showcased on their site. Ryan did a wonderful job of getting photos and asking for any specific requests. He showed us his time lapse at the end of the evening and it was simply beautiful. Such great memories, you will certainly not regret booking!!!

Unforgettable Adventure

Luckily ours was a small pretty manageable group. Our safety and concerns were always the number one priority which was really comforting. We were in good hands. These guys are extremely knowledgeable and shared a lot of great tips and info along the way. They are lucky to be able to make a living doing something they are so clearly passionate about. Getting all the professional photos from them at the end was a nice bonus. Excellent choice for northern light viewing.

Northern Lights with Northbound

It was an amazing experience on 16th December 2024 evening. We started from Tromso in Oli and Ryan's cosy mini van and as promised it was a small group of 8 people in the van. When we reached the destination we were given thermal suits for the bitter cold and we were all ready for sitting in a secluded sea beach waiting for the lights. Unfortunately, it was quite cloudy and we could see the light for a short while and the light was not that strong as well. However, Oli and Ryan made the evening incredibly lively for all of us with their jokes, stories and their experiences in Norway. They lit a bonfire and sitting around a bonfire on a cold windy night, sipping drinking chocolate and munching on grilled hot dogs was perhaps one of the best experience of my life. The best part of the tour was Oli and Ryan - the friendly attitude, the warmth was heartening and I would love to take another tour with Northbound in future.

Had an amazing experience with Northbound! Despite the weak Northern Lights and challenging weather, Oli and Ryan were incredibly dedicated and professional. They even managed to find us one aurora on our way back, which was truly magical. Thank you so much! The long 3 hour journey flew by as we enjoyed their stories and jokes (and a bit of moose watching). While others were just lighting fires, we were treated to hotdogs, hot chocolate, and freshly made homemade cookies.

This was our first time chasing Northern Lights and Oli and Ryan gave us an incredible experience, From the spectacular location, wealth of knowledge on the area and the whole Aurora phenomenon, we have an incredile time with them. The night was a bit cloudy and weather was challenging, but the Aurora's showed up and it was an incredible experience. Highly recomend Northbound for any Tromso experience.

Ollie and Ryan are what make this tour so great. We loved hearing from Nerdy Ollie about all the facts of the region and insane knowledge of the science behind the lights. They are true hunters and have an insane success rate of finding the lights. They provided food, warmth, entertainment and so many epic photos. Ryan shared stories and took a TON of amazing photos. They thought of everything from cookies and hot chocolate to scheduled bathroom breaks. It is a major commitment to spend THAT much time with strangers. Trust me, you will be fine. This was a once in a lifetime I won't be forgetting. Thanks guys.

I would absolutely 100% without any hesitation recommend Oli and Ryan's tour. These two lovely humans are not only complete experts in what they do, their genuine enthusiasm shows through in the tour and their care for everything to make the experience for their customers the best it can be. During the time my friends and I spent with Oli and Ryan, we learned so much incredible information about auroras and how they work. It was like going on a tour with good friends. This is hands down the best tour I've ever been on for any and all of my trips. They do not read from a script. Conversation with them flowed easily and I am confident that even if we did not see the aurora that night, my friends and I would've still had a phenomenal time just because of Oli and Ryan's sincere love of the aurora (my friends booked 2x tours with Northern Lights Adventure because their first tour was so good). These guys are really the best tour you can get! Don't hesitate to book with them! They are WORTH IT! Do it!!
